hi, I just bought, and beat this game for my PS1, called "metal gear solid", and I got to thinking, why has'nt anyone made a movie of this game that could so easyly be made into a very good movie? the game plays out exactly like a movie, except for a few parts (puzzles etc.). I think universal or someone should rise up and make a metal gear solid movie, does anybody else think so? /forums/images/icons/grin.gif

Well, it already is a movie. Kind of. The character Snake is essentialy a rip-off of Snake Plissken from Escape From New York.

And aside from that, has there ever actually been a good video game movie? I don't recall one.

It's a great game though.

A reference made even more blatant in Metal Gear Solid 2
1) the game is set in new york (hudson river making its way toward new york eventually)
2) there is a president in the game who needs to be rescued
3) he had a suitcase handcuffed to his arm.
those are the only ones i remember. other than Soidus wearing an eye patch.

[/ QUOTE ] I'm a sucker for Resident Evil.

Seriously though, I think in many ways video games will ultimately replace the action movie. Take Grand Theft Auto for instance. While a GTA movie would be fun, I can only picture myself in the theater thinking that I'd rather just be playing the game. The interactive movie idea may have been pushed a little too hard early on, but it's something that will eventually live up to its potential. The possibility for good writing and a compelling story is still there. You can have fun characters and good acting (voice acting at least). And it's all under your control. Who needs to see Keanu jump a bridge in a bus when I can have Ray Liotta steal a bus and try to jump over all kinds of stuff?

You bring up an interesting possibility, Threadkiller, but think about what cross-section of moviegoers are also video gamers. A LOT of people go to see the most retarded action movies out there, but wouldn't touch some of the best video games, just cause they're video games. I don't think anything will ever replace the action movie. For certain age groups or demographics, it might come close.

I will grant though, that I've noticed that video games are becoming more mainstream, for 30 somethings and other cross sections of the population that I coulda swore would never play video games. That is interesting, but I still don't think so. Where would we be without the action movie? What about those of us who are too lazy to play video games? Where do we go for our fix then? It's blasphemy for you to even think it!

Don't get me wrong. I think there will always be a place for movies.

But Droogan hit on what I was getting at. As all of us who were weaned on Nintendo grow up, video games become more profitable, more accessible and more advanced.

It's difficult to predict how technology will affect people's lives though. Think of how internet access has changed your life in just the past ten years.

well, despite what all of you think. I think it would make a great movie (metal gear solid 1 that is, 2 I did'nt like) with a good writer(s), universal and/or miramax or someone would have a very decen movie franchise on their hands, that is if they could do it properly. and video games will never replace movies, and a GTA movie would really suck beacause the game really has no general story line. /forums/images/icons/grin.gif
