Nice one this week dude. Divergence = good.

Looking forward to a review of The Matrix game, but I have to say if you don't play licensed titles you are missing out on some good games. I think the main problem is that stuff gets hyped to the point where it can't possibly be good. I think this is the result of companies looking for a way to cross-promote their movies/ TV shows, and not really caring if the game is any good or not. However, the Matrix is different- if you have kept current with what is going on, you know that Andy and Larry shot a full extra HOUR (!!!!) of footage for the game using actual costumes, sets and props from the movie. Besides, this one is being hyped as "revolutionary" (pretty standard stuff for any video game, but this time....I beleive 'em) and I think they may reach that plateau.

So they got that going for 'em.

Nice column, as usual /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

About the Star Wars games issue... In my opinion, TIE Fighter is the best so far, and still ranks as one of my faves, for sure. I don't know if you consider non-console games, but I felt I should mention it /forums/images/icons/smile.gif The tie-in to the movies was great, because it was telling a different story, from a different perspective, with the events from the movies occuring and having relatively minor impact on the game's storyline. It also got by without having the voice talent from the movies, since most of the characters were new, with the exception of Mr. Vader.

One more good licensed game I'd like to mention... Goldeneye for the N64. I think one thing that sets this one apart is that it wasn't made to be released along with the movie, the movie being out before the N64 I believe. As a result they probably didn't rush it as much as they otherwise might have. The game follows the movie plotline for the most part, and works well, though many things make the game great. Especially the multiplayer /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

Wrestling and driving, how can it miss?

It makes you wonder if people who work on these games even value their careers or the work they do. I suppose its good they just make games, because I certainly wouldn't want someone who cares so little for their working doing something really important. You know, like brain surgery or auto racing. That sort of stuff.

Great column, man.

I hear what you are saying about Star Wars games but come on... Outcast was one of the best games to come out period. I can put up with a bunch of turds for one gem. /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

For me one of the greatest games ever was syndicate by bullfrog, and its sequal syndicate wars, basically you have these cyborg "agents" and go around performing missions like elimination, protection, or kidnapping, and well you can buy new weapons, and modifications so they run quicker, more energy and better line of site, and arm strenght for more accuracy, have this device which makes people follow you (great for human shields) get enough people and you could start getting police and security to follow, get enough of them and you could even get rival companies agents brainwashed and then they would be in your roster of agents, it really was groundbreaking stuff back when it was released, and it had a bladerunner type feel to it. BUllfrog in general were a kickass company til Peter Molyneux left to create lionhead studios.

I loved Syndicate but for some reason I never got into Syndicate Wars.

I liked the games-they-should-make feature, with it's diatribe of games-they-shouldn't-have. I'm wondering how many people out there will not bother reading the article fully as they rush out to grab Thumb Wars for PS2. I know there are morons who are going to do that, too, and they are morons, since everyone knows it's only available for the X-Box (let's start the rumors flying now, kids!)

On the one hand, it's kind of weak to talk about a bunch of games you MEANT to review, but at least you admitted that. On the other hand, I wouldn't have known about Final Fantasy Origins at all if you hadn't mentioned it, so be sure to pass that on to whoever should know it.
