This is yet another frivolous lawsuit.
GTA: Goes to court (http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/grandtheftauto3/news_6077161.html)

I feel for the injured and dead, but it's not the game's fault, it's the morons who pulled the trigger.
Oh wait! it's the fault of the game and the gun. Because we all know that inanimate objects just get up and kill people... /forums/images/icons/smirk.gif

The parents fault, I wont say they were bad for letting kids play a game too mature for them since alot of parents are carefree nor will I blame them for keeping weapons, but not keeping the weapons secure enough for the kids to get their hands on them is just careless.

Eh, it's a little bit of everything. However, the game is the least to blame. I'd say the blame lies 50/50 on the part of parents and the kids. The kids for being stupid, and the parents for raising stupid kids. Natural selection is a very good thing.

JIM

Yup, The parents could have done a much better job of securing the weapons.
It sounds like they also could have been involved a bit more in their little bastards lives.

Robbo, I was thinking the same thing when it came to a little bit o' social darwinism... Hopefully these pukes will be strangled in prison. Or they'll stick a fork in an electrical outlet...

But god forbid we actually blame the kids. It has to be something else like a video game or a record.

Whatever happened to the kid just being a fuck-up?

It was all Satan's fault...

Tell me about it. Some people will never be right--but society will never accept that /forums/images/icons/smirk.gif

The [censored]-up part is that the kids were allowed to play those games, but I don't think there has been any direct correlation made in a real study between video game violence and real-life violence.

However, when I go to see Kill Bill at a midnight show and there are kids of every age from diapers on up watching it with their parents, I can't help but think that all the bloodshed and sex kids are exposed to by uncaring parents in some way desensitizes them to the actuality of real violence and sex.

But, a video game is simply a more fully realized fantasy, in the same way that a movie is a fantasy. Are we going to blame "Platoon" for people going on shooting sprees? I think it is just an example of our scapegoat culture- someone has to be to blame, and where there is nothing else, people blame media.

Those kids were stupid and should be shot on sight.

This lawsuit shouldn't have even happened. The kids are in jail and that's that.

It's also "amazing" to see how much they're suing for....
$246,000,000 MILLION DOLLARS!
Of course they're not going to be awarded that much... But you never know...
If this had happened in NYC or LA...
*JIM shudders at the thought*

I will hold off on giving an opinion about this until I have heard more information.

What I find particularly strange is that some kids still can't tell the difference between fantasy and reality. In what [censored]-up world did they come from?

The parents are mostly to blame cause they let their kid go out and play a game thats meant for people 17 or older. Its like someone mentioned before, parents will take their kids to a rated R movie, where what they see on a movie screen is more real then abunch of polygons running around. The parents used GTA as a babysitter, and say "Ok kid you can play the game as much as you want I'm going to do parent stuff and let TV take care of you and teach you things cause this is the mill. and thats how kids learn things now". BTW there is all kinds of weapons in the house you can go help yourself. I mean blame it on GTA considering how old the little bastards are I'm sure they watch cartoons too. Well even a station decaded to cartoon and youth now show violent Anime shows with lots of guns. Whats no to say they got the idea from that. The problem is the parents don't want people to think that its their childrens fault cause they love them and want society to think that something corrupted their children cause they really aren't like this............WELL THEY ARE STUPID AND WRONG. Since the beginning of time people have had a fascination with watching other people die, and obviously your ignorants kids did too, WHY ELSE WOULD THEY PLAY THE GAME SO DAMN MUCH IF THEY DIDN'T GET A THRILL OUT OF IT. So essences your kids are sick and just playing out their own true fantasies. Lets faces it everyone once and awhile think about just going out and breaking stuff or beating someone down.......its human natue.

I went for a job at Rockstar Games once (the dudes over here in Britain who actually make the GTA series) and they are all real sweet people. They just know how to plug into what people actually want from a game.

The proposition of a lawsuit against a games company based on the concept of two kids playing a game a) rated above their ages and b) set in a period when they were, like what, three years old (how can they carry an appreciation of the satirical value).

It is not the fault of the GTA crew that two ingrates with nothing better to do go out to some road and shoot a gun at a car or two.

The fault. The parents. Your children are what you make them. Period.

GTA kicks.
Inbred fuckwits don't kick. They feel my AKUMA GERI move!!!

In theiur next game its going to be all stealth like, you have to kill peope whilst being filmed, yes its a cross between the running man, big brother and snuff movies. But it does look good.

You know what! I am going to sure the creator of smurf's now!

Those bastards only have me attracted to blue things and everyone thinks I'm a hoe. Freaking R.Kelly.

*Now, would my lawsuit go anywhere? Prob. not, like this one wont. It is so stupid that people are blaming video games and music artsists for this stuff when you see probably more violence on your evening news. Oh, no the news made me want to get into a car and go on a high speed chase. Let me sue them.

And I am being very bitchy today cause they day stinks. But, you all get the point, right?*

Yeah, i can't wait to see what kind of hell Rockstar raises when they release MANHUNT on Nov. 20th...it's basically a George Carlin routine...you take all the lowlife's convicts and degenerates, let 'em lose with enough drugs and weapons in a confined area, and let natural selection take it's course. And you film it for PPV.

God bless America.

Also, for those game nuts out there...Rockstar is being REALLY tightlipped about any possible "Xbox exclusives" the Xbox version of GTA3 and Vice City will have when they're relased in a two pack on the 4th. I'll let you all know once i get it though. ^_^ One more notch in the lawsuit belt, i'm sure.

Ah, the native born of Tennessee. I realize the irony of the statement is that of a person with a cleft-lip and palate discussing the merrits of natural selection, since I live in Tennessee and all. But Newport is way out in the sticks. I'm affraid to get out of my car in that town. I got gas there once. It's like one of those towns in movies where the inquisitive kids pick up that hitch-hiker that ultimately leads to their demise.

Yeah, when Lee Greenwood sings of the "Hills of Tennessee," that's the area he's talking about.
