View Full Version : VH1's Movies That Rock

I dig "Movies That Rock" which was originally created to showcase rock and roll and music movies. Sometimes it still serves that purpose, for example, tonight they showed 'Saturday Night Fever.' But VH1, if you haven't noticed, is struggling right now, and they're identity is in flux. Basically they'll try nearly anything for ratings. So now Movies That Rock has become "Movies That Rock in Any Way At All...And Even a Few That Don't." They've shown 'The Godfather.' How is The Godfather related in any way to "Movies That Rock"? They showed 'Cool as Ice' which technically fits the mold, but...well it's the Vanilla Ice movie. Best of all, and this is really what I'm writing to tell you, they show a heavily edited version of 'Showgirls.' Not only does 'Showgirls' most definitely NOT rock, it's really edited to fit on basic cable, and most of the edits make the thing even funnier than it normally is. They add computer generated bras to women that are really topless, so scene after scene has these women with these shakey, one-color, garish bra-like blotches. Man it's great. But it doesn't rock. Oh no, it does not rock.
So next time you're flipping, check and see if VH1 has a movie. If it's Showgirls, plant yourself and watch the delightful pain.
i'm not sure that "Cool as Ice" rocks either, but at least it stars a "musician". I wish they would show the Fat Boys "Disorderlys" now that is a movie that rocks!
On the Fake Bra Tip, it seems like i remember some network, ABC i think, that did a similar thing in a James Bond movie, even though all you saw was like a bare back or something. it wasn't like you saw any skin, just the hint that James was seeing some. What is this world coming to?
What i have really enjoyed on Video Hits One is the "Remember the 80's" stuff they have had on lately.
ahh, memories...

Yeah, I saw Showgirls on VH1 awhile ago and they just played it again recently. The computer painted bras are probably the funniest editing I've ever seen to clean up a movie. I'd have to say that it even beats out the former editing champ, Die Hard 3 on FOX, which gave me classic phrases like "Yippee kai yay my friend!" and "Come and get me Melon Farmers!"

I saw "Cruel Intentions" on Movies That Rock last week. They cut out anything the slightest bit racy. Now, I ask you, if you cut out the sex scenes in Cruel Intentions, what is left?

I'll tell you what you get, a just-a-little-to-fat-for-that-green-swimsuit Reese Witherspoon. She looks good in every movie except this one. Did they tell her to gain weight to really drive home the "homey, I am a virgin" persona?
Another great movie for overdubbed dialog is the tv version of "Smoky and the Bandit" where we learn such great curse words as "Crumb Bum!" I swear the new dialog is almost as good as the original.

EEK! I have been so addicted to the I Love the 80's specials on VH1. Sad but true, I have now seen all 10 years. It suprises me how much I have forgotten. Of course, I was 13 when the 80's ended, but still.
I love the idea of Movies That Rock, but I don't seem to watch the ones they pick very often. I did catch Sunset Strip a month ago, and that was rather fun.

This has nothing to do with VH1 but I caught a little of CHASING AMY on...I forget, Lifetime, I think (one of their Most Romantic Movies Ever!), and they edited Jason Lee's talk about going down on a woman and his "lapping speed" to "happy speed," which doesn't make a lick of sense (sorry, bad pun), but it DID make me laugh.
"Happy speed." I love edited movies, except when Blockbuster does it.

Granted the girl was a little heavier than she is now, but if I had to hazard a guess she was not more than 128 lbs in that movie. I think she looked fine, and like a normal attractive girl. You must've been getting distracted by super thin Michelle-Gellar in that movie.

I enjoy my girls with some meat on them, but Greasy Reesey had some meat in the wrong places in Cruel Intentions.

I watched billy madison and well its been edited here
they cut the bit where the clown falls over you see him fall over but you dont see him on the flood with blood coming out his mouth. This makes no sense later when he sings the song.
They cut sandlers one swear word when he says "find that f***ing dog" you see his lips moving but theres a slight pause like find that.....dog.
and they cut where that guy catches fire. Dumb censors

Don't miss my intention. I really dig her. I just think that she looks worse in Cruel Intentions than in any other movie.

I'm not and never have been a fan at all of Reese but it's not because I don't like my women with meat coz I do, in fact Rene Zellwegger and Kate Winslet before their crash diets and even Sophie Dahl all got my juices flowing, but Reese has never really done anything for me.
As for movie dubbing - The Die Hard 'Yippee Ki Ay' line was fantastically dubbed in Britain by BBC1 to Yippee Ki Ay Kimosabi. Inspiring and yet believable.
In Britain we have also got our very own 'I Love ...' series that has gone from 1970 right thro to 1999 and although I wasn't around for the 1st 6 yrs of it It does certainly bring back fond memories especially of the redheaded teen goddess Tiffany who is ironically having a bit of a revival in the niteclubs these days. But then again so it Kim Wilde, Vanilla Ice and MC Hammer, and I even remember hearing Kajagoogoo and Nu Shooz once. I Love the 80's.
