In fact, I still have about 300 games for it. Unfortunately, however, my mom threw out the system, because it was apparently an eyesore.

So, how can I play the games now? I have an extra bay in my PC, but I can't just put an ancient floppy drive in there, can I? Is there some kind of program/software that can run old floppy disks?

Ditch the old floppy, and the games.... You can download a C64 emulator, and all those c64 games. Just search the web.

I never used a Commodore 64 before, but I was watching Tech TV yesterday and saw this story on there. It is an episode they call "The Real Deal" where people send in actual ads. Someone sent in one from a radio Shack ad, circa 1989 for a Tandy 5000 MC Professional System, Monitor and Mouse not included. It had a 20MHz CPU, 2 MB of RAM, and MS-DOS. The price was a wopping $8,449.

Can you imagine what you could get now for $8,499?

Up until about a year ago, I would still fight with my commodore and my atari. Now I just emulate.

Great idea guys. The thought had occurred to me, but one of the coolest and most comprehensive sites I know of, www.emusanet.com (http://www.emusanet.com), has been down for a while now. If you go there, they have a link to www.edgeemu.com (http://www.edgeemu.com), but this site doesn't have C64 emulators or ROMs. Can someone hook me up with a link for good quality emulators and ROMs?

...and oh yeah, what's a VIC20? /forums/images/icons/tongue.gif

There's a few for sale on eBay. But they'll cost you a few bones and there's always the risk.

well I had an amstrad which was like a spectrum with better colours, but then spectrum was really popular here in about 83-91 when atari 2600 and such consoles were popular there. I did find an atari st emulator which ran roms, and oddly, ran some of my ST games but only ones with copy protection e.g monkey island and populous.

I was raised on a TRS-80 model 1. I learned to play poker with poker pete on that system.

So, in other words, there's no free ones anybody knows of? That makes me even sadder now than I was when my mom threw the freakin' thing out /forums/images/icons/frown.gif

When we had a C64, we bought a book to "program" your own games. My mom spent like two hours typing in the code for it not to work. At the time it sucked, but I can look back and laugh now.

We had a game "Jumpman 3000" or 5000. Anyway it was awesome. Those are the only C64 memories that I have. But, at work we still have the printer that my boss bought when there were C64's in the office.

Oh man, my brother and I used to play Jumpman Jr. all the time! I loved that game! That's actually the reason why I'm trying so hard to find an emulator or some way to play the games on my PC. So far, no such luck though. This is my last plea--does anybody know of a good (and free) emulator for C64, and if so, please post the link.

Man that game was so addictive. Jeez, I never had to program though /forums/images/icons/grin.gif That dates you, good buddy!

emulators are easy to come by, but the games for em are hard. in terms of emulator just Google up 'Zophar'
and you should get site called zophar's domain.

Spank you, Greenwald, spank you very much.

And, I have to insert this from past experience, *good* emulators are hard to come by. I still haven't found a good Game Boy emulator either. In fact, the only emulator I'm really satisfied with so far is my SNES one, snes9x, which rocks.

If anybody would like to help me out even more, I would love links for other *good* tried and true emulators for other systems, that actually run most ROMs, and are easy to use. I need ones for Game Boy, Genesis/32x, Game Gear, and Atari. Thanks again.
