Yes, it was back in 1993 I think and it starred Bob Hoskins and John Legizamo (I think that is right).

alot of people said it sucked cause it was nothing like the game, but I never see why epople would want that, might as well just someone play mario 3/world/64 to see any decent mario action, but as an off the hook film set in a crazy place with weird epople, this film kicked ass and I make sure to religiously watch it every time its shown on TV.

I'm sorry to break it to all the fans in here, but everything was super corny about that movie. I am pretty open-minded, and a hardcore Nintendo guy, but it just licked some seriously big, hairy donkey nuts. No other way to put it, really.

Oh, heck yeah the movie was corny, but it is way better than many movies that have been video games before. Example, resident evil. I didn't like that movie, nor did I think the 2nd one should have been made. But, oh well..

Yeah, you're right, Smurfette, although I must admit, Resident Evil has actually grown on me a bit. I actually (and I will probably be skewered for this one) like the movie more than the game.
A lot of it had to do when Mario Bros. was made, I think. Special effects back then just didn't cut it for a project like that. The Koopas looked so crappy, among other things, that it was hard to actually get into the plot, at least for me. I actually don't even remember the plot.
I think we can all agree though, that no video game-inspired movie is more tragic than House of the Dead--almost totally unrelated to the game, and completely 100% predictable. I am saddened every time I see that trailer.

Sheesh...that was one of those "so bad it's good" flicks...yeah, two Italian guys were played by a brit and a latino, it had Dennis Hopper as King Koopa, and the Goombahs were HUGE-MONGUS, the Devo-guns didn't play whip-it but instead looked like Super Scope 6's (remember those?) and the plot was...wow. Still, a flick to be remembered, if only for the fact that it was made. Ha.
Still, not as mass marketed as Nintendo's own funded 2 hr Super mario 3 commercial starring Fred Savage. Does anyone ELSE remember THE WIZARD???!?
Or is it just me?

The Wizard rocked. It was Rain Man for little kids.

I remember my sister begging to go see it. She was a Mario addict.

Dude the Wizard was a kick ass movie if I ever saw one. Man I remember the final of the movie showed off Super Mario 3 for the first time, and I was crapping bricks. To stay on topic SMB the movie is lame. I thought all the characters were stupid and the story was dumb. It was a movie that should have never been made. I think out of all the video game to movie transitoins Mortal Kombat was probably the best one. Though SMB wasn't the worst. Double Dragon was probably the biggest waste of an hour and 30 mins someone can spend. I didn't even finish watching the movie it was so horrible.

BTW Captain N and the Game Masters was an awesome show too. I used to watch that right after Camp Candy on NBC.
