View Full Version : My Fault, Cubs Fans

Robbo_the_Hood

I'd like to apologize to all of the Cubs fans out there. It's my fault they did not win today. See, a certain classy dame and I have our ritual to insure a Cubs win that involves me sleeping on the couch. However, in a moment of weakness (and one that closley paralleled "Paradise by the Dashboard Light") I convinced said lady that both of us on the couch wouldn't harm the Cubs since I would still be on the couch.

Not so much.

I take responsability because I was the one that said, "all the other kids are doing it," and, "if you loved me you would. What can it hurt."

I apologize to all Cubs fans and especially her. It was a desperate act by a desperate man. I'm sorry that I put my primal instincts in front of the wishes of millions of people.

I KNEW IT! I was just saying to my father "I think Robbo had something to do with it... I just have this feeling."

YOU reinstated the curse with that move! You know that?! YOU! Now they will lose the next 2 games and it will be over, and it will have been YOUR FAULT!

Ahh my sweet...see what happens when we succumb to temptation? Meatloaf, Ethan Allen sleeper pull-outs, and my beloved Cubs were caught in the crossfire of lust.

As I have been crying all evening about this sad state of baseballical affairs, there is only one way to bring balance back to The Force before Tuesday night...put on some Springsteen and head to the kitchen table... /forums/images/icons/ooo.gif

If you took blame for all of the curses working against the Cubbies, you'd be fielding more curses than a Diceman concert. Let them play, let it not be an easy sweep (earned, for the history books, Bad News Bears style), and let us rejoice when they pull it out in the end!

And congrats on the couchy goodness!

Dude, I hate to point this out, but the Bad News Bears lost. Perhaps a Mighty Duck analogy would be more apt.

Robbo_the_Hood

They won in the second movie. However, when they went to Japan there was never an official game.

Robbo_the_Hood
10-14-2003, 11:41 PM
Okay, this isn't my fault. And I'd hate to be that fan sitting on the left field line. That's almost Bill Buckner-esque. He's going to have to go home eventually. Not only that, but everyone he knows is watching the game.

Razorback

That fan just lost the game... and maybe the series, for the Cubs.

RB

Robbo_the_Hood
10-14-2003, 11:48 PM
Do you hear how the commentators are trying to take all the blame off that fan? I mean, sure there were runners on when Bill Buckner let the ball get away, but it's ultimately his fault. Just like that fan. He has to live with that for the rest of his life.

Robbo_the_Hood

Razorback
10-15-2003, 12:15 AM
The funny thing (well, I know its not funny for you) is that other areas bash Yankees fans for not being "real fans" but the people down the lines at Yankees Stadium KNOW that you don't do that. And there would have been no time for security in the Bronx, if that happened (and it wouldn't).

That fan should be stoned for not being aware enough of the moment to DESERVE THOSE SEATS!

I cannot even explain how pissed I am right now. Instead of going to Wrigleyville like usual we decided to watch the game at my house. I am glad we didn't go now.

Every single one of my friends walked out the door at the end and didn't say goodbye. No speaking, just pure unadulterated hatred. It's like the Billy Goat has kicked us in the damn ass again.

I just e-mailed that pic to about 30+ people. That was hillarious. Not that the fan did that, just the picture. On the news they say you can't tell if the fan was over the rail that is on top of the wall, however, in the pic it is very obvious. That definitely was fan interference. Maybe he was offered a free home in Florida.

Aww Damn, we have the same favorite player growing up.

In some ways I do pity the guy. He is the channelling of all that frustration in voodoo and curses. He must not have been thinking and you know this ruins a good part of his life for one bad decision. I bet NOBODY is praying harder for the Cubs to win than he.

I also will note that his mistake could never have been made in a better ballpark with a better group of fans. Do that in the Yankees or BoSox game and he would have been murdered or savagely beaten on the spot. Cub fans are not generally violent, so he made it out in one piece.

DangerSeeker
10-15-2003, 04:11 PM
He's sort of disappeared on this end too. I was supposed to help him with a film shoot, then don't hear anything. When I do, it's way late for a way early call time. It is strange. We used to be co-workers, but alas I am free of that place.

Or we could say it like this:

He could not have made that mistake in a more pussy-fan stadium, with fans who are so pathetic that they barely peeped a "DUDE! GET AWAY FROM THE BALL!!!" when their left fielder was about to catch it. Cub fans are generally amiable, and also stupid, because they don't get that the win is more important than a $5 ball.

Now I am not saying that is how I feel about it... but it is a different take on your Cubs-ism. /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

RB

Zens_7s
10-15-2003, 07:38 PM
No. Not quite. There wasn't time to stop him from trying to catch that ball, nor would the fans have been able to. They probably thought he was smart enough to back off on his own. My point was focusing on the aftermath of that incident. Frankly, Cub fans are more docile or "pussy"-like and I do agree with that. It is the general midwest attitude. I don't think that "stupid" is the proper word however.

Lets face it RB...it is a cultural thing. The east coast is known to be more violent in sports. I frankly think that the constant brawling in the stands and among the players makes that side far more "stupid". Of course, I grew up here so I see things from the midwest perspective.

And we all know it wouldn't have been a $5 ball in the end. The e-bay potiential alone would make people fight over it.

Thank you RB, I was hoping for that matchup also. Let's face it, the Marlins just outplayed us.

I haven't decided if I will watch the game tonight. It is amazing to see a town so quiet today. You would think Oprah, Billy Corgan, or John Cusack died.

I think the general depression is more than just baseball related. The economy has devastated this area in the last 2 years. Unemployment is sky high and our major manufacturing plants are shuttering everyday. There is a huge amount of young people moving away toward growth cities. I think the Cubs thing was one of the bright spots that gave people sometime positive to hope for. It is amazing the silly things that matter so much.

I can't think who I will hope wins tonight...Sox or Yankees. Will have to flip a coin I suppose?

Razorback

I know how you feel... when the Yankees lost the series in 2001 it was pretty quiet around here for a few weeks. I think that we had hoped that the Yankees would bring some joy back to the city after 9/11 and it was pretty tough to take that loss. I didn't talk about baseball for about a month after that... I avoided sports radio and TV during that time because I didn't want to see images from that game.

RB

Zens_7s

Right, you understand perfectly. It would have been a wonderful bright spot. I remember rooting for the Yankees the ONLY time in my life that year, and I was sad for the city when it didn't happen.

Last night, in my living room, I was able to see eight grown men cry through a whole bottom of the 9th (and I was of course right with them). I can't say I would ever trade seeing that moment, if purely from a cultural perspective.
