Aren't they the ones responsible for gems like the Toxic Avenger? I remember watching those a long time ago when Gilbert Gottfried hosted USA's Up All Night. They were total cheese but mindlessly funny.

They were a sort of cult in the late 80's and died down after but I was watching them on cable in about 1996 I wanted to see Tromeo and Juliette but I dont think they ever showed it on tv.

I think some of the premium channels used to play their work. Well, that's how I saw Sgt. Kabukiman N.Y.P.D, which was pretty damn funny.

A friend of mine works for Troma (he is usually the Toxic Avenger at all those horror conventions and has been in few of the movies). I have seen a few of the movies (mostly because of him) and they are GOOFY!

I have to admit that they are fun though. /forums/images/icons/smile.gif Some sexy ladies in those too. /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

I interned for two summers at Troma, assisting the editing department. My name is mentioned on the editors' commentary on their newest movie, Citizen Toxie: The Toxic Avenger Part IV, as is Movie Poop Shoot interestingly enough. Really cool.

I'm thinking of doing an all Troma column for GBU soon, though our own Chris Lamphear sort of has the market cornered on Troma. But last time I was there they gave me copies of some movies that are really too ridiculous to ignore so I may have no choice.

Sounds like a plan Matt.

During which years did you intern? Maybe I know some people you know (would that make me cool by proxy?). /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

perhaps some coverage of the next tromathon might be a nice coverage story (providing they still do those troma conventions) was troma responsible for the cartoons in the early 90's like swamp thing, toxic crusaders and attack of the killer tomatoes? or waas it someone else who just made a toxic crusaders cartoon using their infamous icon.

They did make the Toxic Crusaders cartoon, or at least had a hand in it. The others you mentioned are not their properties. Swamp Thing is DC, and I have no idea about Attack of the Killer Tomatoes, but it wasn't Troma.

BTW I tried to watch Attack of the Killer Tomatoes recently thinking it was going to be this classic crummy movie and I was extremely disappointed. I was downright bored by that movie.

I interned Summer of 2000 and Summer of 2001. And having any sort of connection to me makes you far LESS cool by proxy. I am the anti-cool. I am cool kryptonite. I am coolptonite.

We will let our lawyers decide how cool you are... and me, by proxy. /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

I will ask my bud if he knows you and what he thinks. /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

Matt, did you know a guy who called himself "Joseph Anthony" (not his real name of course)?

The name is vaguely familiar...what did he do there?

He played Penis Monster Dude in Tromeo and Juliet and also played the Toxic Avenger in the Hamster PSA short (if you have those). He was probably doing some "publicity" for Troma when you were there (he looks like a younger version of Fabio if that rings a bell).

The 1st Troma film I ever saw was Class of Nuke 'em High when I was about 10 and I thought it was the funniest and goriest film ever. 2 yrs later I saw Texas Chainsaw Massacre however and that changed me into the homic..... person I am now. But Troma will always be the Daddy of low budget moviemaking and for that I love 'em

Troma makes some excellent films, my most recent fave (other than Toxie IV) is Buttcrack: The Motion Picture. Mojo Nixon as a zombie-fighting preacher (and yes, it's different than dead-alive) is gold.

The Toxic Avenger 5: The Toxic Twins (http://www.bloody-disgusting.com/news/17966)

All I recall from the previous installment is the Darth Maul scene.
