Because it has become popular to degrade women based on some of the inner-city respect towards pimps. As a result rappers, who really just profit off the misfortune of deprived minorities and lower class whites, use it as a way to reach middle-class white kids who purchase 80% of their wares.

I tell you what, there certainly is a difference between the gangsters of today and the gangsters of yesterday. Frank Sinatra was a gangster, and you didn't hear him singing about "freak ho's." He nailed Ava Gardner, Mia Farrow, Marilyn Monroe and Norma Jean Baker. Not just any ho would do for Old Blue Eyes.

My opinion on rap is that for the most part, it's crap. The only reason why I listen to rap, is because I have a nice system in my ghetto little 1986 Camry, and I like to hear the bass hit every so once in a while.
I have said in the past that I listen to Snoop, and it's no question that he's a womanizer, and that his lyrics are vulgar, just like most other rappers. And, like RB said, they're making their money off of middle class kids.
That's not my beef. Like P.T. Barnum said, "There's a sucker born every minute." People want to waste their money, someone will always be there to take it from them. Snoop and others feed the marketing frenzy, and I have to respect them for reading the masses so well.
I don't buy into their ideas about women completely, but I sure wish I didn't know so many ho's myself. I have been looking for a good girl ever since I hit puberty (and we all know I'm 23 now, so it's been a while), and 80% of the girls I have met are ho's, and will abandon a guy when times get tough. Then, a good 15% are prudes, who don't know how to have fun, leaving a grand total of 5% to choose from (I could show you the formulas, but it would take too much time).
I don't think there are enough good girls out there. Zen brought up the fads and trends about ladies today, and society's expectations in a thread a while back, and it's true. All women are supposed to be super thin, with big breasts and a short attention span, and all guys are supposed to be cut, and have 9 inch dicks. Where does this come from? People like Snoop.
For the record, I have *never* bought a rap CD, and never will.

I have a lot of friends overseas, and that is how they also view American Women.. As either how Droogan explained, or the "Money Grubbing Bitches."
Having being 30, and going through puberty twice (I didn't like it the first time) I have the same feelings ad Droogan.
It is very hard to find a decent woman in America, but in Sweden, Germany, Spain, and most other countries that I have visited, they are all over the place.
Here is my whole take on the matter Parents aren't teaching the children proper morals and commitment.

If you listen to songs by the commercial female hip-hop artists, most have a equally disturbing undertone. Their stance is to judge a man for what commercial value he has or doesn't have. Songs like "Hit Em' Up Style" show a woman who punishes her man by destroying his car and charging up his cards. How about dump him? There are hundreds of songs about woman discussing the diamonds, cars, and clothing they expect out of their men. To this end they are "ho"s by allowing their affections to be determined by the purchase of objects. It is a vicious circle.
As Matthew said, parents are not teaching their daughters proper morals. Growing up female in America is a interesting collection of influences. Pick up any copy of Seventeen magazine and you will see the word "sexy" on almost every page. Young girls are still taught by their mothers, peer group, and marketing to do things to trap a man. Not to do things to make themselves feel empowered.
A young girl will be taught to dress sexy because men enjoy it. She will be taught to go to college so a wealthy (or future wealthy) man will think she makes an intelligent wife. She will be taught to have a good body until she marries because men value that. We make jokes about many woman changing when the get married. The cutting of the hair, the changing of the clothes, severe weight gain, and personality issues are all part of a woman who has based her goals on gaining a man, and did not base them on herself.
I find it especially amusing that woman like Britney Spears truly believe they are empowering young girls. Then they go out and pander to what marketing says men like. Don't get me started on that publicity incident known as "The Kiss".

because rap music usually is very disrespectful to women
ILovePapaSmurf
10-13-2003, 04:45 PM
True.
The reason why I made this thread is because i was watching this video by 'Nick Cannon' and R. Kelly and the chours said, 'And Find me some hoes.' So, I thought to myself, why would a person who is obviously good looking think they could get girls by calling them a garden tool. It is just sad to think that as women we are classed as that and men think it is ok to furthur use the term loosely as much as they want. And I am kind of tired of it. I mean, what is sexy to a woman when a guy goes up to her and says, 'What up hoe?' Umm..no.
As for the money thing, I am not into the guy pays for everything. My thing is is that if a guy pays for dinner, I pay for tip. Yeah, I know it isn't much, but I would like to help out with the check and not let him pay for everything. That is not me. I do in fact think that if a guy gets an invitation from a certain person to a long distance activity, he should pay for at least half of the gas bill or so.

A lot of people just use that cop out. "They are a product of their environment." I personally think that is a load of crap. I grew up in a household where women were treated with little or no respect, and I personally do not follow suit. Any person with the least amount of self respect would not use that word "hoe"
Razorback
10-14-2003, 04:26 AM
Well, I am sure your opinion means a lot to you but scientific studies have shown that environment has a lot to do with socialization. Are there some people who are not as affected by their primary socialization as others? Sure, but then they discover their secondary (and countering) socialization earlier in life.

Young girls are still taught by their mothers, peer group, and marketing to do things to trap a man. Not to do things to make themselves feel empowered.
[/ QUOTE ]
This sociological analysis was basically pulled out of my ass, so bear with me:
They're taught to trap a man because if you can get someone to spend their lives earning money so they can give it to you, that's a good deal. I'm lazy, I'd like having that sort of deal. A number of problems have arisen out of "allowing" women what previously defined the role of a man. First of all they don't get the money they're supposed to for doing their jobs just as well and better than men. We've all heard the quarter difference statistic, but specific cases, like the actual number of female managers at Wallmarts, are even more repulsive.
Despite this incomplete second option, the standard of femininity is still what sort of man a women can get and, to a fightfully lessor extent: what sort of family they can raise. Men were always expected to accue as much wealth and fame as they could and use it to get as much sex as possible to prove they were men, but this only worked if there were women to trap them, crush their will, and make them into responsible husbands. Today's women aren't taught that part. Society has weaved together the roles of the career and the home and now women are supposed to use sex to get accue as much wealth and fame as possible (seperate from prostitution in that their worth to men is a set price, while a skilled women should "ideally" get far more than they're market value from a man). The "sexy submissiveness" of women isn't a result of being taught disempowerment, but empowerment by any means necessary. Is it any wonder then that they try to become "players" and take on some of the most despicable traits of men, only to glorify their state in song?
Instead of having more choices, women of today are stretched (often to exhaustion) between two roles, while men are left without a clear role at all. It used to be their ability to make a successful career that made them men, but women have that too now. Juxtapose the aimlessness of the new role for men with the increased role of women and you have the modern image of a wife who works herself to death with a full time job and kids and a lazy husband you does his work and nothing else.
What's more interesting is how this causes men to respond to competing objectives. Specifically, they're supposed to have power over women, and then get laid, which often involves some form of concession or submission, particularly from the ill-cultured women of today. Sadly, they long for a time when men had real power over women, and their only bastion is in black culture and rap songs. With this new culture they don't have a girlfriend, a respected equal, but a bitch, a subserviant who exists for their benefit. Sex isn't the medium of a quid pro quo, it's their right as powerful men. Has anyone been counting intra-relationship rape and abuse statistics? On the rise. Wonder why...
So, increased freedoms for women have been detrimental to both sexes, but unfortunately for all those who long for simple times with strong morals and defined spheres of influence, we can only move forward, and revoking or freezing the freedoms of women won't help anything. Despite this, the moral degradation of America can't just be accepted as the cost of progress, and people will only teach their children moral values if they have the incentive to. Men are utterly confused as to what their, much less their childrens', societal role should be (Fight Club captured this disillusionment very well) and women can't enrich their children with an ethical background as they've done for generations if they're busy at work. Society needs to own up to the fact that it's more involved in the raising of children now than it ever was. Day Care options that actually enrich children intellectually and ethically should be made available to all. Maybe with even more freedoms we can move forward without stumbling.
