I think one of the greatest was Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Unfortunately, these days, the trailer is for the most part a lost art form. Most trailers completely give away the entire storyline, including the conflict, and how it is resolved. I usually end up saying to whoever I'm with, "Well, I don't need to go see the movie now." So, I don't really have a top 5, at least from the past few years.
The LOTR trailers and The Matrix trailers are all pretty cool though.

The Matrix Reloaded had far and away one of the best trailers I have ever seen. It is supurbly edited and gave me goosebumps everytime I saw it. When I downloaded it, I watched it at least 10 times in a row, and even looked at it frame by frame. None of the Star Wars, Lord of the Rings trailers, or the Revolution trailer got me as psyched as that one. Honestly, that trailer was better to watch than the movie.
Second would probably be the AOTC 'Breathing' trailer, because it shows so little and leaves you screaming for more.

The best trailer ever was Phantom Menace... and while I liked the movie, it was nowhere near as cool as the trailer.

Just out of curiosity, can you give a date for when your fixation began with Phantom Menace? I find it fascinating, personally. I must say though, I never thought I'd hear you say anything was better than Phantom Menace, even it's own trailer. We've witnessed something today, folks. Not sure what, but something.
And, one other thing--did you ever play Episode I Racer for Nintendo 64? That game was so cool, it's the only racing game that I have ever had a hard time keeping up with. It moved so fast, I personally felt it was very close to the movie. There's also a sequel on PS2.

What are you smoking? Menace is my 4th favorite Star Wars movie... that means I like 3 others before it.

I lived and worked in Montgomery, AL (Maxwell AFB) for 6 years. They had a running track that ran through the golf course. When I forst got there, there was a sign that read..."Drivers, beware of joggers. Joggers, beware of drivers that can't read." I almost crashed my patrol car I laughed so hard. The sign didn't stay up too long though. It was deemed politically uncorrect.

For the record, I have quit smoking, for real this time...except for an occasional Cuban Pleasure, dipped in cognac...ahh, bliss.
And, I am not imagining things, you have said that is the greatest movie of all time on numerous occasions. Come on folks, am I right, or am I right, or am I right? Somebody back me up here.
I'm glad to hear you say the original three were better, I coulda swore though that Phantom Menace was your all-time favorite.

I remember it vividly. You were wearing a diaper and swinging a cat around, as usual, and you said, "MY NAME IS RAZORBACK AND I'M THE BIGGEST IDIOT IN THE WORLD. I THINK EPISODE ONE IS THE BEST MOVIE EVER! WHEEEEE!" /forums/images/icons/grin.gif

1. Matrix Reloaded
2. Metal Gear Solid 3 (okay not a film but it looks ace)
3. actually, I'm not really a trailer person, why ruin some of the worst films to come out by seeing their best bits, when I can at least marvel at them later with the crapper parts of the film.

Man, this is the first time the forum made me actually laugh out loud. Well, it was a snicker, but nonetheless. As for beating up the weak, rock on, man.
