Alright, I just got back from the movie. I went with my brother, and we were just quiet the whole way home. It is awe-inspiring. Go see it as soon as you possibly can, but don't go during a busy Saturday late-night showing. Go when there aren't many people--this is a movie you have to have quiet for--to relish every detail. I am very impressed.

I haven't seen it yet, but I get this feeling that the movie is another Matrix... over-hyped and overrated by Internet geeks who are dying for something "kewl" to hold them over until the next big thing is "ubah kewl."

I will see it Monday. I will trash the fuck out of it if it isn't the greatest movie ever made... I swear, I will burn my Tarantino movies if it isn't the end all, be all that people are pretending it is. I PROMISE!!!!!!

Let's just say, don't get the fire pit ready. This is the best action movie, possibly best MOVIE I've ever seen, PERIOD. The acting was superb (except for a small bit of the snow-garden dialogue, at the very beginning), and this is the first movie in YEARS that I didn't look at my watch once and when it was over, I though it was SUPER short. The japanese history involved, the traditions, the warehouse full of metaphors spread throughout the volume...I'm just so [censored] impressed. I'm going to go see this again...maybe a third time. The music was off the hook, the camera techniques (the b &amp; w to color transfer was very impressive). Whoever's reading this who hasn't seen it yet...get your ass in a car, bus, truck, whatever...and go see this incredible movie. You'll thank yourself after it...simply orgasmic. Bravo, Tarantino...gonna be a long four months.

I'm not going Pico here. I have been waiting for an excuse to burn my Tarantino collection, and didn't get it. Best movie ever? Fuck no. Fun? Fuck yeah. Well... from all of the interviews I've seen of Quentin in the many DvDs I have with his commentary and such; I think me and Tarrentino could have conversations that last for days because we are both huge movie geeks. I wanted to make movies before I saw any of his films but they all inspired me and when i saw his interviews I realized a geek like me can make movies.
About Kill Bill. I loved everything surrounding the movie including the fact that I had a cute date to watch it with. I loved all the violence (and so did she) and I loved the way it was all segmented. God am I glad the girl I saw it with didn't end up going to lock-up for selling that weed in school. I am in love with the movie and almost there with the girl I saw it with.

A good part of it is based on things he says, like when he recently said "Fuck the comic book geeks." Another thing that bugs me is the way he takes most of the credit for the collaborative efforts that result in his films. He acts as though he built every set, shot every shot, so forth.

Then there's his misogynist tendencies, but that's a whole long diatribe. As for how much he can talk about movies and so gorth, he doesn't seem like the type to let anyone else get a word in edgewise.

The high regard he has for himself is amazing and misguided. He said he spent all that time to make "Kill Bill" a movie like nothing that had come before it, completely original. It is far from original, and if you don't believe me, read the script. It specifically cites some of what he copies.

I'm not saying anyone here has to agree (also read as: nobody's changing my mind), just that this is why I don't like the guy.

Saw it last night in a near empty theater, that had about eight other people in it. First of all, the whole cutting the movie into two parts thing is crap. By the time it was over I was ready to go for another four hours.

One thing you should know going in, if it doesn't become readily apparent to you within the first 10 minutes: This is a movie. It is not a "film." It is a dyed in the wool, full-blooded, movie. No lofty philosophical aspirations. No important thematic underpinnings I could discern. I don't know, maybe that stuff will come along in the second part, but this was just 100 proof pure grain motherfuckin' ass-kicking. A veritable geek smorgasbord.

Tarantino is one of the greatest action directors of all time. Who would of thunk it?

So, I guess you could say I liked it.

Okay, repeated what I had said, I had said it was "POSSIBLY the best movie I've seen" which is, of course, among a large group. Yes, best action movie IMO. But my best movies have changed, going...
1. Royal Tenenbaums
2. Kill Bill
3. Snatch
4. Citizen Kane

Flame as you will, these movies are the pretty much the only ones that have ever inspired me in my screenwriting. Personally, I enjoyed the first Matrix, haven't seen the second yet, but the third looks pretty intense. The Animatrix, now THAT was way more entertaining than the Matrix...but then again, that wasn't a theater release. *shrug*

I just think that anyone who proclaims a movie they have just seen as the greatest anything (whether possibly or anything else) should be taken out back, tarred, feathered, shot, stabbed, and then hung by the neck until they die. But that's just my opinion and I am sure that some would not follow that line of thinking. /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

<font color="purple"> The first matrix was ok, not the best. But, when I saw Reloaded, I was like, this movie is shit. It was a total love fest, didn't dig most of the dialouge when I saw it. Mind you I was on 3 hours of sleep, was up for 25 hours straight and saw the midnight showing, and still wasn't thrilled. But, it shows dedication on how much hope I had for this film. *sigh* Ninja Turtles is way better than the second matrix. /forums/images/icons/wink.gif </font color>

Might have spoiler info in it for those that haven't watched it yet.

To get this thread back on track....I just watched 'Kill Bill' last night and thought it was a great movie. Pretty much non-stop action and blood from beginning to end.

{Side Note} I saw part of an interview with QT and he said he broke the movie into two 90 minute movies instead of one long 3 hour movie, because it seemed pretentious to put out a 3 hour movie. I think I would have enjoyed sitting through 3 hours of 'Kill Bill'. It's not like it was a Kostner movie you know. Now those are pretentious 3 hour movies that no one should have to sit through.

Back to 'Kill Bill'. I did like the merger of live action with Japanese Anime. I guess it was the only way to reveal the history of how 'Cotton Mouth' came about without going to jail. Afterall, I guess you can't have a real 11 year old half dressed girl sitting on a naked guy now can you? I also liked the over-exageration of blood when someone got cut.

This movie was definitely a must see.

Awesome movie. I never could have imagined so many styles of film being integrated so seemlessly. It ties everything that ever made an action, anime, or kung fu movie good together in an indisputably original package. 2nd best movie of the year, instant cult classic, go see it, now shoo.

Kill Bill in short:

-Lot's of fun
-Heavy on style, action, watery samurai-movie-blood spraying as if from a lawn sprinkler.
-Light on substance but you won't notice.
-Very heavy on style.
-QT's dialogue is as unique and easy to recognize as Woody Allen's or Kevin Smith's (not sure if that's a good thing but it probably is)
-QT is not afraid to recycle things from his previous movies if he thinks they are cool enough.

I'd say go see this movie. I love stylistic stuff and this thing could only have been made by a huge movie geek with a keen sense for a kind of cool he has made his own.

Actually, Reloaded was my #1 (for the stunt and philosophy part, not the movie part), but Pirates is certainly up there, albeit narrowly behind X2. As for that other Ian McKellen flick, we all know it will be good, but will it floor us like the fellowship or simply suffice like towers?

I just got the last tickets to the LOTR trilogy at the New Brunswick, NJ, theatre. King of Prussia, Cherry Hill, NYC, all sold out. I can't wait to sit some 10 hours and then see ROTK early.

As for Kill Bill, all I can do is applaud Tarantino for taking the elements of old movies and combining them into somthing I've never seen before. The only way I could describe the movie to my friends without spoiling it is to say the movie is both an homage to and spoof of 70's kung fu films.

Also, anyone else notice that Kill Bill is much funnier than most of the comedies this year, even though the movie is clearly an action flick first?

In the now infamous words of Senator John Blutarski- " HOE-lee SHIT!!! " That was a FUN movie- but I was kinda let down- everyone talked about it being a blood bath, but I wasn't impressed- it was no Evil Dead, but DAMN that was cool flick... can't wait for February.

Quentin Tarantino has proved once again that despite some directorial ability he is still a [censored] hack. I just keep wondering when this once promising director will give up his penchant for writing and let someone else have the opportunity to perhaps allow him to be a vehicle for actual art or- perhaps even an empty movie that isnt a piece of shit. Tarantino has proved that he has the ability to shock us, almost entertain us and certainly to give a feel of pop-culture irony-- but in my opinion these are aspects of a movie or cinematic vision-- they dont make a product themselves. He's got the makings of an expression, but absolutely nothing to express but a botched graphic sort of "feedback" of culture that wasn't really great in the first place- it just remains now as a period piece. And though his constant use of pop-cultures present and past seems to allude to that all too overdone concept that in a modern media society "art is dead", I realized while watching this film that the director doesnt even understand or explore this concept. He's not being ironic- he actually MADE this piece of shit to be viewed. I'm a big fan of violence used in drama, - or even the senseless, but entertaining use of violence in action movies. But "Kill Bill" is neither. And it's certainly not "good". It's a shockingly bloody disjointed mess, that is so over-the-top gory its boring. I actually think its most interesting when one considers that Tarantino not only wrote the script, but directs as well. Psychologically the implications...well I dont know, seems pretty [censored] to me. Overall its amazing. Go see it in theaters just for the experience of understanding what a waste of potential Tarantino is, but outside of that dont rent this movie or even give its lame concept any thought. Its a piece of [censored] trash.
