Any Mel Brooks film, esp. Spaceballs, which I've watched almost as many times as the original trilogy.
Also, Falling Down, the dark comedy that almost gets too dark. Hard to believe that Joel Schumacher had a hand in this excellent film.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Rocky Horror Picture Show and Don't tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead are a few of my favorite cult classics.

Weird Al's only movie, UHF. And, Office Space, to name a few. I love cult classics!

What's wrong with UHF? And, more importantly, where would we be without the twinkie weiner sandwich?

I bought UHF on dvd for my brother and never watched it. I'm sorry but Al gets on my nerves if I have to watch something with him featured for more than 5 minutes.

You don't have to be sorry. I see the movie as a true test of who is really willing to be my friend/girlfriend. If they make it through the movie, that is saying a lot.
But, with priceless segments like "Stanley Spadowski's Clubhouse", "Bowling for Burgers", "Gandhi II", and "Conan the Librarian", well, I have to love it. In fact, I am a Close Personal Friend of Al, I love him so much. You can be one too, if you so choose. His site is pretty cool, go there, sign up, check it out: www.weirdal.com (http://www.weirdal.com)

I think I will pass that site along to my brother. He is all into Al. I'm not a al fan. Don't know why. Maybe it is because I like Smurfs and Jem. You know those 80s cartoons do things to you.
But, I did love the song that Al did about Star Wars off his 'Running' cd. Classic. /forums/images/icons/smile.gif
The Evil Dead, Evil Dead II: Dead by Dawn, Bruce Campbell vs. Army of Darkness (if there's a trend here, I dont' see it...) I can watch these again and again and never tire of them. Bruce is THE Man...

WET HOT AMERICAN SUMMER is not a cult classic yet! You are violating the rules! What are you doing?! Are you insane?! The world could implode!

Without a doubt, Pi

Don't get me wrong; I love Pi. I'm one of the few people I know who saw that before Requiem. I'd debate whether it's a cult classic though. Out of my friends who have seen it and have a good sense of film, none of them are crazy about Pi. Requiem, I would have let you slide on though.

While alot of people like Pi, its not one of those movies you watch over and over. Still a damn fine movie, though.

What about From Dusk Till Dawn (the first one) would that count?

I will have to agree with the earlier mention of "Spaceballs" and then add on "Pump Up The Volume", "The Goonies" and "The Lost Boys".

So by your standards what defines a cult classic?
Razorback

This article (http://www.cwrl.utexas.edu/~burton/INDEX.HTM) defines the term well.

That's a pretty good definition, esp. the whole not being a blockbuster part. Could The Shawshank Redemption possibly be a cult film? It flopped in theatres, and everytime I see it on TV I usually end up watching the whole thing until the end. Many of my essay papers have fallen victim to that movie.

I can't remember which magazine did it, I think it was Entertainment Weekly, but one of them did a 'Top Cult Classics' cover, and I thought it was pretty interesting. Shawshank Redemption was in there. I have seen that movie so very many times. And, now, whenever I put it in, I have to watch it.
If you haven't seen that issue on Cult Classics, it's a good go-to resource for some you might not yet have seen. There was a follow-up revision done as well, including a lot of movies that readers felt needed to be included. Well worth checking out! /forums/images/icons/grin.gif
