Whos else has seen this movie and what do you think?

I think there is a lot more to it than banjo music and hillbilly butt-rape if people could just get past that aspect of it.......
Every serious movie buff either already has or needs to see it.

It's a good movie.
Like most, you can take it in so many ways.
Only bad part was, I first saw the movie at about eight years of age. God... That creepy banjo-boy... and his equally creepy uncle-dad, pig squeal 'yellin rapist. /forums/images/icons/frown.gif
I bet if Burt Reynolds had his moustache, it would have jumped off his face and saved the day...

Yeah, I think Burt Reynolds was the coolest guy in the world when this movie was made. How come, when he was cool, he didn't wear a rug and then decided he needed that later on?

Great scenery, good music, and everything up til Burt breaks his leg works great. Still, tough to watch Ned roll around in the dirt like that.

It is now a very silly and bigoted movie for me. I did think it was cool when I first saw it but... I think it is the reverse Birth of a Nation for that part of the world.

I don't really see it that way at all, the characters in D. are not a judgement on all mountian folks, just like the Cajuns in Southern Comfort don't represent all of Louisiana's swamp dwellers. That said you wouldn't want to run in to either in a dark wood. And who hasn't been hiking and heard duelling banjo's in their head. Both movies a pure entertainment and the actions of the antagonists are so exaggerated that they probably would not be take as literal by most of the viewing public. I think movies like "Sweet Home Alabama" are far more likely to perpetuate the stereotype that all southerners have 37 IQs and live in trailers and bring our baby's to a bar!?!

I read the book too, and what I got out of it was that nature was trying to send a message to these city folks (who were going to dam up the river and make a lakeside community, destroying the area) to stay out. The hillbillies were indigeonous people, so in tune with the wishes of the land. THe book is full of imagery to support this. Poor Otis.

I did not see "Sweet Home Alabama" so I can't comment.

I had mixed feelings about this movie. It was very powerful and disturbing, and I don't think I'd want to ever watch it again, but I do think it was well done and worth seeing once.

Lots of people think superman is a good film considering when it was made. Ned has made far worse films, And I'm sure he'd probably take less pride in Repossessed.
