View Full Version : Will the Red Sox go all...

the way?? Or will they shoot their load early? It has been over 80 years since they won the World Series and I personally believe it is the Babe Ruth curse. So will they make it?? What do all non-Yankees fans think?

I think they will do as the Mariners always seem to do....blow their load early.

I will answer, even though I am a Yankees fan. The Cubs will win the Series before the Red Sox will. /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

Seriously, as a baseball fan I hope that either the Red Sox or the Cubs win this year (though I really want to see my Yanks win, mostly so that Rocket can leave the game with another championship).

I have a personal vendetta against the Yankees, and I hope they never win again.

The Cubs and the Sox are both my favorites, so if either of them could win, I'd be happy.

Zen, I understand, you don't need to say anything. But, since the upper part of the South seems to be just a big collection of Braves fans, there's not a big distinguishment between the two. As for me, well, I'm just different like that. I like teams with curses placed on them and really bad losing streaks. I told you I was a Redskins fan, remember?

I think the Angels will take it again this year....oh wait! They totally blew it. Nevermind.

The Yankees are the most overpayed baseball team. I really do not like them. Especially Mr. Jeeter...there is something about him that bugs me.

I guess many Californians are going for the cubs this year, so many in the Golden State belive in the cubs! I would love to see them win the series because I think Sosa deserves a chance to experience the world series and get a world series ring. He is an amazing baseball player...

[/ QUOTE ]

An "overpayed" baseball team is one that is paid well but does not produce much more than a low-level team. The Yankee(s) players are paid their worth, and they produce.

As for Jeter... how can everyone not hate him? All he does is volunteer his time to local community services and causes; pretentious shit! Everyone unite to hate one of the nicest guys in baseball!

Everytime I have gone to see the Yankees, Jeter takes time to sign autographs for people in front of the Yankees dugout (before a game). I have only seen one or two other players do that... Jeter must be STOPPED!

Umm...yeah..so if they produce then how come they lost to the angels. Come on, as much as I love the angels, the Yankees could have taken it from them last year.

The thing that amazes me about them is they play 'non' successful teams and expect to beat them without playing a real game of ball and when they lose to these 'teams' they get all mad about it. It is like, come on..play some ball and be the team they can be without thinking that teams are going to give them the games.

They also won 4 championships in 5 years and won 12 straight World Series games (before losing 1 game to the Mets). If that is not success then I do not know what is.

What I mean (and I am really tired tonight, so if you expect me to make sense, wait until 8 a.m.) is they expect teams who are really horrible to give them the game, so they don't have to 'work too hard.'

I'd love for the Twins to do it, but getting past the Yankees will be tough. They way I figure it, I've seen the Twins get two rings, so I'm content. All I need is the Vikes to win a Super Bowl, and I can die a happy man.

Vikings were pretty solid yesterday, so good luck!

As for baseball, I'm from Baltimore, so, uh, back to football!

Robbo_the_Hood

They looked solid in 1999 too, so I'm trying to remain very calm. I know my heart will be broken eventually, so I don't want to get too excited.

We were talking about Baltimore last night. I used to live in Bowie, MD and for my twelveth birthday I went to Baltimore Memorial Stadium and watched the Oriels play the Red Sox.

See how it all comes back full-circle?

DangerSeeker

Robbo_the_Hood
09-29-2003, 01:02 PM
Hell, you never watched a game in Baltimore Memorial Stadium in early April/late Septempber. With that wind blowing right into the first base side bleachers you needed a blanket to watch those games. I haven't been to Camden yards, as I haven't been back to Maryland since we moved when I was 12, but those games at the old stadium were B-R-ootal.

DangerSeeker

You kidding? Every thanksgiving at 10AM my high school played football against our rival there. The only thing that got us through the game was the liquor we'd sneak in. All worth it for the toasty ride home (usually defeated)

It must be so easy to cheer for the Yankees. You can afford to buy all the best players so you can have championships.

But I tell you, it's more exciting to just want it your whole life and then you get it that one time and it's better than you'd ever thought it would be.

A good example is when the 1980 Olympic hockey team beat the USSR. One of the best images is when the Soviets all stand and watch those kids celebrating that they had done the impossible. Winning became so commonplace for the Russians that it meant nothing to them.

So what we've learned today kids, is that being a Yankees' fan is just like being a no good Soviet Commie bastard.

[/ QUOTE ]

The Yankees won 2 championships without a single "super-star" player. They won 2 more championships without "buying" a single player. They used their farm system for players and for trades. The only thing you can say that isn't conjecture is that they are able to KEEP players based on the ownership's willingness to spend money above the cap.

The Yankees also didn't win a series for over 15 years before this most recent run... we Yankees fans had to deal with many bad years too (though nothing like Cubs or Red Sox fans). The Yankees have had the highest, or close to the highest, payroll since Steinbrenner took over the team. If money was all you needed to put together a championship team then the Yankees would have about 60 of them by now.

How about Baltimore? They had the second highest payroll for years, where are their rings? Or the Braves? ONE CHAMPIONSHIP in 12 years (from when they became competative). Money isn't everything, you need a good manager and players who work well under him.

It is EASIER to root for the Yankess now that they are winning, but eventually they will start losing and then we will sit around remembering the good days.

Having won a high school championship I can tell you that winning once is great, winning back-to-back is even better. /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif Winning three in a row (as a Yankees fan) was awesome. You don't take them for granted unless you are a fair-weathered fan (or player).

Well, NY'ers are not "used to it." We want to see our team win and we want to see them win every year. The reason the ownership can continue to pay (or overpay) their players is because the fans make it possible.

Or we have learned that if you are a bitter sports fan it is easiest to trash the best as a way to make yourself feel better about your crappy team and its management.

As a baseball fan I would LOVE to see Boston and Chicago... LOVE IT. However, my team has to be bumped off first, and until that happens I'm bleeding pinstripe blue, BABY! /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif Those who don't live here don't understand the pride of NY. We don't "buy" championships, we earn the [censored] $140 million dollars at a time. /forums/images/icons/wink.gif
