Loved, loved, loved the Altered States write-up. I’m really sorry for putting you through that, but I suspected your review of the flick would be really funny, and you proved me right. I hope we’re still cool and that your health plan will cover the cost of therapy.
By the way, I’ve decided that before I die I’m going to try to obtain some fancy mushrooms and watch Terror of Tiny Town in a dark, windowless room for the duration of the journey. And then regress to primate form and devour a neighbor’s pet, of course.
Thanks for another wildly entertaining and insightful column.
Your friend and mine,
~ Tom

WET HOT AMERICAN SUMMER is the greatest movie ever made! Ok, maybe not but it is damn funny and way too intelligent (in its comedy) to ever be appreciated by the masses.

ONCE UPON A TIME IN MEXICO has to be one of the most disappointing things I’ve seen in a theater in a long time

Yeah, after watching WHAS, I checked the reviews and was amazed at how many critics said the movie was too dumb. I can't believe that so few people actually appreciate this comic gem. All of its parts are executed flawlessly, and its amazing how they got almost every type of joke and gag into one film.

It should be one of the most quoted movies in forums sigs, and yet most people have never heard of it.

I would quote it more often but I'm usually too busy fondling my sweaters.

"In your dreams, douche-bag!"
"Douche-bags are hygienic products, I take that as a compliment. Thank you."

Well it is at heart a cult film, and those take time to really be embraced by an audience (which I kinda talked about in my review).
The talking can of mixed vegetables though, I mean c'mon, anyone who can't laugh at that, is simply not human.

Yeah ALTERED STATES was pretty crummy, but it definitely offered plenty of material to write about which is really all one can ask in my position I suppose. So in a perverse sort of way, thanks for the recommendation! /forums/images/icons/smile.gif
Also, remember, before you devolve and eat your neighbor's pet, you've gotta become a complete jerkhole intellectual whose inane ramblings about seeing God as a child are enough to attract superhot women.
Because, you know, your physics professor in college had a supermodel for a wife.

Oddly enough, one of my physics professors has a super-hot wife. Seriously.

I don't think it is that suprising. Many woman find the whole teacher/student power issue attractive.

But, she was his wife back when he was a truck driver in Canada.

Yeah - that is wierd. He must have a really great ... personality. There seems to be all kinds of wacky relationship stuff going on these days. Young and old, hot and not hot. Hmmm...
My girl aquaintences and I have noticed how the younger guy hitting on older woman thing has really escalated lately. It used to be much older men (in positions of authority like professors) and younger woman. Maybe Ashton Kutcher has inspired all these young guys or something. When out at night the young guys approaching us quotient has skyrocketed.
Times they are a changin'.

That's weird; one of my physics professors had ultra stank breath. Seriously, it was lethal. It was because he drank coffee and smoked cigars all day. He was easily one of, if not the, coolest prof I've ever had. On the first day of class, he came into the room wearing cardboard covers on his ears that read "Bullshit Deflector."
I don't know what his wife looked like, but he deserved a good'n.

I have never met a not cool Physics teacher. They may not be the hippest people you will meet, but you will always have a good time in their class. A good half of the reasons that I got my BS in Physics come from my high school Physics teacher. The coolest thing he ever did was to lay down on a bed of nails and have a student break the cinder block balancing on his belly with a sledge hammer. It was awesome.

Come to think of it my physics teacher in HS was the BEST teacher I ever had at the place! I took 2 years of physics cause I wanted to have him as a teacher again.
I tend to doubt he's got a superhot wife though, he had to resign the year after I graduated after an "incident" that we shan't go into further here.

Come on, I think it's safe to say we've ALL used the Bunsen burner to light farts.
That IS what you were talking about, right?

I once hooked up a bunsen burner to a water fountain. It shot water clear across the room, a good 20 ft. Thank goodness the teacher wasn't in the room, because that would've probably been a detention.

<font color="purple">I was being harassed in my science class from these guys who only talked about boobs, sex and just stuff you shouldn't talk about. and they would talk about it in spanish, like no one would know what they were talking about. Well, after a while, the harassment was too much to where they would draw pictures of me and all, so one day, I had enough and burnt the kid with a bunsen burner.[color]

It's funny that you mentioned the movie Wet Hot American Summer becuase just the other day I was being told by a friend that that was an awesome movie and I should watch it.
MattSinger

Yeah last week someone asked me if I'd ever seen this movie called "Wet Hot American Summer" and if not I should watch it...
...it's a very coincidental movie, "Wet Hot" is. You can tell it's starting to get that big following.

I watched Wet Hot after reading your fortnightly column. It was every bit as fun as described. I laughed so hard during the go-to-town-and-get-hooked-on-drugs section my sides hurt. It was like watching a child actor's E! True Hollywood Story on fast forward.
If you all come back here in 10 seconds I will explain exactly what I found so enjoyable about the film and how to save the world from large pieces of spaces stations zooming at the Poop Shoot headquarters.

Yeah, its odd, I've heard the same thing, its one of those movies that alot of people have heard of, but no one knows what it is. My one friend asked if I had ever seen it, and then he ordered the DVD off the 'net. Now that I've seen it, I can't stop blabbering about it. The word is spreading quick, and I imagine this movie is on the fast track to cult status.

Not only that, everyone will be claiming they were the one who saw it and got everyone else into it. My honest story about finding it is I saw it a year ago roughly after I was at an internship at we had the screenplay lying around and I was told the movie was great by my boss. I read a few pages of the script and dug it so I rented the movie. I liked it ok the first time I saw it, but my review was more specifically in response to seeing it at a midnight showing recently that had a super-hot crowd and made it all the more hilarious.

TAXI DRIVER, THE KILLER THAT STALKED NEW YORK, and PSYCHOMANIA. Plus a contest where you can win a certified 100% ugly movie from yours truly's private collection.
Go now and beat the rush! Quickly! You've only got two weeks to catch it before it's only in the archive for the rest of eternity!

I've not seen WHAS yet
I'll have to rent it. Once Upon a Time in Mexico kind of sucked. Decent action but not much of a story. Disappointing.

"Listen, you [censored], you screwheads. Here is a man who would not take it anymore, who would not let -- listen, you [censored], you screwheads, here is a man who would not take it anymore. A man who stood up against the scum, the cunts, the dogs, the filth, the shit. Here is someone who stood up."
...One of the great quotes found in the movie Taxi Driver, which was reviewed in the latest article of The Good the Bad and the ugly. I think that of the many and many movies I have agreed about in the Good section, this one is a definite stand out because it was such a wonderful story about a dememnted hero whois really down to earth (although, I must admit he was really [censored] up).
