For the A Perfect Circle fans in the house, the new album is pretty great -- well worth checking out. It's definitely a little bit slower and a lot more emotional than Mer. I'm going to be cranking it all weekend for sure!

...and I forgot to mention that the version of Weak and Powerless that is on the Underworld soundtrack is totally different than the album version. For David Bowie fans, he has a must-have song on the Underworld soundtrack. And for Maynard-ophiles, he is all over that soundtrack (there's one song he sings that sounds like a Tori Amos song -- very different for him).

Doesn't it not come out until next week? Are you stealing music again?

I DON'T know someone who acquires these kinds of things.

"Again" implies he stopped at some point.

I'll pay for the album eventually. I just can't refrain from checking it out early.

[/ QUOTE ] That's the lie that I used to tell myself. I have pretty much given up on that now.

I plan on picking it up. I loved Mer De Noms.

Huh. I never really got into it. It was just a little to slow for my likings.

The new album is even slower, so....

Nothing is worth 12 steps... let alone 13.

Yeah. I couldn't imagine (although I'm sure it would happen) Mazzy Star or Portishead getting tossed to the wayside because the music is lighter and slower. That's some of the slowest music there is, but also some of the best and most fitting for the emotions they are trying to touch.
Honestly, after listening to the new APC album, even the slower songs on Mer de Noms sound fast. The first two songs on this album make it completely worth the purchase.

I guess I said that wrong. The slowness of Mer de Noms I did not like. That is not to say that slow music is always to my disliking.

It's a tough comparison to Tool, if you listen to them. As a Tool fan myself, I had expectations when I first heard APC. It took me a while to really accept them for what they are, which is almost the opposite of Tool in a lot of ways.

That might be my problem. I haven't listened to APC very much. Maybe I should try harder.

So, I took your advice and got the new cd. I figured that I would start building up the collection with a cd that I didn't previously have. I dig the album alot. It seems to be a different kind of slow than Mer de Noms. Seeing as how it is the only cd that I currently have, I am listening to it quite a bit, and liking it quite a bit.

Awesome -- glad to hear it. I've been listening to it like mad, especially the first four tracks and number 10. And I did go out and buy a copy to support the band, so Mneh! /forums/images/icons/tongue.gif

9 and 10 back-to-back is awesome. I don't know what it is about "The Nurse..." , but I like it bunches.

What a wacky thing, I just went to by it after my beer-o-clock lunch break. $9.99 at Best Buy! Holy crapola that was cheap. And well worth it. (I will deny already having all the songs because that would be wrong. /forums/images/icons/blush.gif )

Isn't that super cool? I bought mine at Target. It was marked $13.99, and I was cool wit dat. I paid with my debit card, because as you know...never mind. I usually don't even look or listen for the total. On the way out, I decided to look at the reciept and saw, $10.63 with tax. After my shitty morning yesterday, that put a nice smile on my afternoon. I would gladly pay $10.00 for an album. Especially one of this quality.

Exactly. 10 bucks I can handle. The other day I bought a CD and it was $18.99. Ridiculous.

I have never heard of this band, but if someone would like to send me a link where I can check out some songs, I would love to see what they are all about.
The album I want to buy when I get paid is the new John Mayer album.

I wanna get Nine Inch Nails Downward Spiral as soon as I get money.

Do you have The Fragile yet? That album is basically Trent Reznor's opus. The Downward Spiral is a great one too though.

I have most of Pretty Hate Machine on my computer that is it.

Well, I don't really know your taste in music outside Marilyn Manson and Smashing Pumpkins. The Fragile is my personal favorite NIN release. It's a two-disk set and covers all ground for Trent Reznor -- there are happy songs, sad songs, angry songs, introspective songs, instrumentals, and there is a cohesive flow from track to track -- there are even tracks that echo riffs from other tracks and tie the album together. It's one of the few recent rock releases to actually hark back to albums like Dark Side of the Moon or The Wall by Pink Floyd as a fully realized concept album. It's something perfect for playing in your car and cruising to.
Now, The Downward Spiral is a great album too. In my personal opinion, it seems mostly angstful and vicious. It's basically packed with hits -- the kind of CD you'd put in, pick out your favorite songs and skip around.
...and as a Manson fan, I'm pretty shocked you don't have Broken. He more or less is what he is because he worked with Trent on that album (that's how I see it at least).

I also like the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Alanis Morisette, my music listening varies. I will listen to Rozz Williams and then Alanis, for example.
