Damn... now there is a true loss (that no one at MTV will ever figure out).

They can say it was diabetes all they want, but I think it has more to do with the subject of "Hurt" than a doctor could measure. It's equally sad and joyous.

I can't say anything more than that-

Johnny Cash was a man of deep faith. He's gone home to the Creator. The world was a more colorful place because of his songs and now Heaven is all the more richer.

My grandfather was a session musician and was able to play with Cash a few times when they were both young. When I was growing up he would always play his music and tell stories about what a incredible experience it was to talk with Johnny Cash. He also had a few stories about the craziness of working with him during his heavy drug use years.

This morning made me think of my late-grandfather and how much he taught me about music on those car rides and holidays next to the record player.

Well-said. Something sweet about Johnny being back together with June, but it's a sad day for the rest of the world.

John Ritter, too. Man, rough morning.

Indeed. Even though the movie is going to be hilarious, it's going to be tough watching him in Bad Santa.

Looks like we'll all be wearing black arm bands in the city of Nashville.

The flags should fly at half mast today in honor of Johnny.

I'm going to go listen to my Johnny Cash albums now.

I already listened to Sunday Morning Comin Down and almost had a beer for breakfast. Instead I will have a beer for lunch.

Oh contraire. The corpse-[censored] at MTV have now gleefully hopped on the Cash bandwagon. I've seen the video for "Hurt" twice on that channel today, which is something considering I've never seen it played once.

Although I'm sure tommorow everything will return to status-quo, and teen boys everywhere will get their daily fill of booty shaking.

If there's one thing I hate, it's false, exploitive grief. /forums/images/icons/mad.gif

Johnny Cash has been a favorite of mine since my dad first played him in his car when I was kid. I loved his music and I'll miss his voice.

All my coworkers are big Cash fans, so we have declared today a Cash-only instore music day. We'll miss him.

Man, a Cash-only day. I would have to boycott. As I said before, I refuse to shop anywhere that doesn't take credit cards.

Kidding.

The Country Music Hall of Fame is open for free today. And they've got Cash's plaque draped in black. Fitting in more ways than one, I suppose.

That's so cool about your grandpa and Johnny Cash! I'm going to imagine you DID have a beer fro breakfast!

Your post made me think about how I wish I heard more stories from my grandparents when they were here.

You know, with as good as his music is, it sucked that he lost out on the awards the other week. He deserved it more. I guess MTV just has to go with who is more popular with the kids though, instead of who is better.

BTW, wasn't "Hurt" a remake of a NIN song?

Thanks. I always thought his stories were facinating when I was growing up. He was a great guy; paid for 15 years of music lessons so I owe him a lot. He also left me his guitar collection, and all his memorabilia.

It does make you think about all the things you wish you could have asked people while they were still here. I guess we should have interviewed them Jessica!
