when the hell will another grand theft auto game come out?

karmattack

go to google and type "manhunt" and click on anything with the word Rockstar by it. It's not GTA, sadly, but should be something to interest you.

Rockstar have been plotting the next GTA game since before Vice City was released. I'm sure we'll start hearing about it soon enough. Plus, don't you want them to take their sweet time, make whole new cities, huge new improvements, new vehicles, new secrets, great soundtrack, etc, etc, etc (etc x ten because this game will be HUGE). Be patient -- 100% the game again, if you've even done it in the first place.

I heard a simpsons version is coming out this month. Its called "Simpsons Hit and Run." Its by Radical Entertainent. That might tide you over. I have heard nothing from the makers of GTA. /forums/images/icons/frown.gif

in reply to playing the games again, i can't even stand grand theft auto 3 anymore after playing vice city. i don't know what it is, but i just enjoyed vice city so much more and find gta3 boring (even though i have already beaten it). manhunt looks like a cool game, i'll have to rent it when it comes out.

Not that it matters, but I disagree about GTA III. I just recently took it out of the archives and played it through to 100% and had a blast. Before, I had only gotten it to 99%; I never wanted to do the paramedic mission. It pales in comparison to Vice City, but I still think that game has replay value.

EternalStrife
09-10-2003, 05:43 PM
Sure the game has replayability, but going through all that just to get 100% completion again just seems to become so much more tedious each time. Especially when you make a mistake and have to do it again and again and again and again and again........... /forums/images/icons/confused.gif

I have played vice City once or twice. It is a ok game. The game that i really like to play is Enter The Matrix and the Lord of the rings the two towers. And i still can't beat that blasted Harry Potter game. Oh, I am not a big video game person, but you can look at the site of your game systems and they should give you a list of dates when games, accessories, etc come out.

Have you ever noticed that the older you get the harder it is to play stupid little kiddie games and the harder the games the easier it is to win. Yea, that is what happened to me. Plus, I haven't played video games in about 2 months. Been busy.

I don't think it like that. It's more of a generation gap. Kids nowadays grow up to the game controllers of platforms like the ps2 and xbox, wheras, the older generation, for example, like our parents grew up to the two-button joystick arcade games. So if you were to ask some kid who has been playing gamepad type games all his life, he wouldn't be able to play those old games well, and vice versa.

LOL!!

My first gaming system was the Atari 2600. I was MAYBE 7or 8. 1 button, and either a joystick or a paddle.

I got the original nintendo when I was 15. My nephews (9 and 7) can kick my ass in Smackdown, or other wrestling games.

BUT, I prefer games like Zelda, Eternal Darkness, and RPG's.

When I was a game tester, the word on the next Grand Theft Auto was going to be on the PS3 and it would be multiplayer and online. This info sound cool except the PS3 won't be out until 2006.

I also have the sneaky suspicion that GTA4 will be in a parody of san francisco. since thinking of the original levels from the first gta, those were liberty and vice city. On a sidenote has anyone played dead to rights or mace griffin, I have a slight urge to play dead to rights at least.

why the discontinuation?

Omaru

probably because xbox is pretty much a pc. most of its games come out for other formats, and the console exclusives usually get a PC conversion too. THought I admit to being slighty jealous when they got Dead or alive 3 and the shenmue games to themselves.

What he said plus the XBox isn't doing as well as the other systems. The only thing that XBox really has going for it is Halo and DOA 3 in my humble opinion.

So far the word from Rockstar is that the next installment of GTA will most likely be set in the future. There has been talk of jacking a flying car and such. Cyborgs and robots were also mentioned. Playable? maybe. When it's going to be released, who knows? Probably on a next-gen platform.
Do a search on Gamers.com (http://www.gamers.com/home) and Gamespot.com (http://www.gamespot.com/) .
Future consoles? the next generation was started years ago.
For those of you out there who keep up on this stuff, the current crop has prematurely aged. Not to say they are not fun anymore, they are great. But alas, the industry is going to have to release the new ones sooner than they thought.
There is a slump in console sales right now. which means a big fat price cut is coming. Yay! /forums/images/icons/grin.gif
It's interesting to see the sales of consoles in various world markets. Like the Xbox and Gamecube.
Their respective sales in the U.S. and Japan are a prime example.
Don't get me started about that little powerhouse known as the GBA. Man, has that thing SOLD! /forums/images/icons/grin.gif

Enter the Matrix... booooorrrrrrrring. Same goes for the LOTR games... no replay value. GTA owns all. Thankfully, both GTA3 and Vice City are coming out for XBOX in the next few months. I can't wait!

GTA is 371T3! (or something)

Enter the matrix was a fun game for me because I thought the second movie was a waste of time (saw the midnight showing with a couple of friends) and the game was a fun element of surprise i guess. I just liked the game.
As for LOTR 2, the game was fun. I just liked the different challeneges.

lol! So this is why people keep bitching about the gaming mainstream... The Xbox is being used as a platform off which a successful console can be launched, it's nothing more than a foot in the door, that's why the system itself and it's online infrastructure are being made available at loss.

Using these tactics, MS has strong-armed it's way from absolutely nowhere to #2. The next Xbox system may be the last one, but the Xbox2 has been thought about ever since Sony used it's 1 year lead to dominate the competition with technically inferior hardware. Oh, and sadly you're no more misinformed than half the EB/Babbages clerks out there. Everbody's a fanboy these days.

I don't think Xbox can continue in its current state. A hard drive, DVD components, modems and network cards, etc., it makes the system too damn expensive to manufacture. If it was simplified like PS2 or GCN, then there would be no doubts about a Xbox 2. I think the console has a big enough fan base to secure its future, but they need to streamline the next console if any significant profits are to be made.

Where the hell does this information about "they are seriously thinking of discontinuing XBOX" come from? Who the hell are "they"? Why would Microsoft throw away a product they have spent 5 billion on manufacturing and marketing for? Who the hell gets this information? How about a source, here people?

XBOX is the most powerful and advanced system on the market. I get so sick of people defending the Playstation 2- it has N64 quality graphics, an inferior controller, and a limited selection of "good" games. What is so great about GTA- the fact that repressed teenagers can act out their violent and antisocial fantasies? Please.

XBOX is the closest thing to a PC available on a console system....look at Halo. It came out on XBOX 2 years ago and it STILL isn't out on PC. Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic - same thing. Quit bitching about the XBOX and just buy one. With Halo 2, Project Gotham 2 and the best iteration of Soul Calibur for the home market, XBOX is clearly the leader in console tech, at least until 2005 when the next-gen systems hit the market.

Stop talking out of your ass, people- your breath stinks when you do that.

So why don't you just buy a PC?

BTW: Xbox is easily the most advanced console, but who cares? Gaming is about software. And frankly, I prefer F-zero, Metroid, Rogue Leader, and Resident Evil (just to name a few) over Xbox's only exclusive hit, Halo.

I play games on all platforms.
old school and new school. Console and PC.
But a good reason for purchasing an Xbox or any other console is the ability to pop in a game and play, when you are done, turn it off. Very simple.
As you PC gamers know, it's not like that for a computer.
You have to deal with all of the software/hardware conflicts, the endless patches, and so on and so on.
God help you if you play mmorpg's, patches galore! It's not called Everquest for nothing! /forums/images/icons/grin.gif
What really burns my ass is the high cost of graphics cards.
I have better things to do with a few hundred dollars than spend it on a piece of hardware that will sell for half that in less than a year.
Yes, you can have better graphics on a PC. Yes, PC games tend to be "deeper" and more involved than their console counterparts. But for ease of use, parties, playing in bed, etc. I favor my console! /forums/images/icons/grin.gif

Jim does have a point. Think about it, for the price you pay to get a console, you would spend less for what you get in return compared with what you could get in a PC. PC games that are released every year are becoming much more advanced in terms of graphics and gameplay style. In turn, you'd require a PC that would have to keep matching up to specs set by game developers.

Wheras with console games, developers can only come up with a level of 3d technology that have to exist within the boundaries of an xbox's graphics card. Of course developers would still come up with new game engine concepts, But it all still boils down the graphics card in each console.

Xbox coming out of nowhere wasn't really that much of a shock surprise though since they already had some success with gaming on pc, they knew what gamers wanted and delivered, the fact they did come up alongside the other companies already established in the console market wasn't quite the same as when sony run their grey machine against the likes of sega and nintendo in 1995, and even put up a good fight against the technically superior likes of dreamcast and n64 back in the day. I think what sony have though is a quite good collection of games over anything, you say the controls are too simplistic, it depends on the target audience, if you want to market it to kids, then thats the best idea. or for amateur gamers who might feel confused trying to find their way around the controller. Ps2's controller suits me fine, I pratically know where everything is cause they have the same formulaic controls, saves me reading through the game manual througly.

Not to totally shun the Xbox though, I think its main fault was the shunning it recieved from eastern countries. I guess those Japanese just dont like microsoft that much.
Also I should remind people MS had to buy out some games companies to get the ball rolling.

EternalStrife

I believe that mostly due to racial issues that xbox doesn't sell very well in the asian countries. People in asia have been use to purchasing consoles like nintendo because they were produced by their own. To have western people like microsoft come in on their market just doesn't go well with them. Besides, since most of the gaming system between the two are usually different, consoles produced in the west are limited to certain game formats. Further more, there is that issue of piracy and knock-off's which are still very big in the east. People back there would rather spend less money on gaming products. It that sort of mentality.

The XBOX has none of the bottlenecks that a PC has... you can install LINUX on it and use it like a PC, and pay only $300 (or less) for the whole process. The XBOX is a hackers dream, and it is still the best system available, with better games coming out (like KOTOR, which is awesome).

XBOX is going nowhere but up.

Not if the console is going to continue to be a hacker's dream. Even an idiot can pirate Xbox games, all you need is a DVD burner. Microsoft isn't too smart, making their console more vulnerable than a Boy scout troop in Neverland. If Xbox 2 games are going to be as easy to copy as the original, then Microsoft is going to be losing money big time. Unless they charge full price for their console (Xbox takes around $700 to manufacture). As for PC games, don't play em', don't care.

What is the difference between copying XBOX games and PS2? The "hack" for the PS2 is probably even easier than the one for XBOX. For both systems you need a DVD burner to play most copied games and you need to be a willing criminal. /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

Everyone I know has the PS2 hack, I am the only one I know who is using LINUX on the XBOX (and I have yet to burn a copy of any game and use it).

I loved the PS2 and it had some great games, but I am a XBOX convert now and I love that console a lot more.

I think you'd be suprised what three 80 gig hard drives (two of them striped), a Pentium 4/2.4B GHz and an over-clocked video card will do on a PC. Playing Jedi Outcast and Splinter Cell on my computer blew every other system away.
