I'd like to just say thanks to Jess for pitching in these past three weeks--the Patchouli thing was a nice change of pace, and they all looked great, especially Jeff Wells and his cherry stem.
And continued thanks to the guy whut writes the strip every week (43 now!), too, of course. But he's a guy--we don't have to kiss up to him. So let's hear some praise for Jessica!

Great stuff Brian, keep up the good work. And also props to Jessica, she did a great job. Yes I said props, because she earned them.
Also, any new Patchouli coming this way?

A HUGE Patchouli one shot adventure is coming to comic shops in late spring/early summer. It's BIG BIG BIG, with lots of big happenin's in the lives of the characters.
Do you guys like PATCHOULI stories? Want more? Let us know.

Personally, I really like them. Patchouli has a well developed universe and alot of solid characters. Speaking from experience, it's nice to see a comic strip that deals with posers and the people who befriend and change their perceptions of things. And on top of that, there's plenty of oppurtunity to make more jokes involving Indie-film theme parks and poorly placed tattoos. Keep 'em coming, and you can be sure at least this fan will keep reading them.

I haven't gotten much enjoyment at all out of the last three Monkey Man strips. Maybe it's cause I haven't read Patchouli or have any clue what the deal with those characters is, but these three weeks have been my least favorite of the MM strips.

See that's the thing, I didn't get enough out of the 3 strips to neccessarily want to read more Patchouli. It might be good, but just not something that really grabs me.

"I hate to be the voice of dissent"
Oh, you love it and you know it.
Remember that issue of HULK where they introduced the THUNDERBOLTS and you then couldn't WAIT to read more THUNDERBOLTS?
Wait, bad example.
Okay then, remember that old issue of TEEN TITANS that introduced CAPTAIN CARROT AND HIS AMAZING ZOO CREW and you were all "screw Starfire and Cyborg, I want to read more Pig Iron and Abra Cat-Dabra?"
This is like that. You might think you miss Monkey Man, but really, you're aching to know more about Patchouli. You'll inevitably go read more of that strip over at angrynakedpat.com and then you'll be all "gawd, this is good, but I really wish I could see them in color like in those Monkey Man strips." You don't know what you got til it's gone, man.
And you just wait to see the new guy working on that little blue-furred bastard, too, I think you're gonna be very happy either way. Maybe not ZOO CREW-happy, but close.

I haven't been Zoo-crew happy in years. But then Monkey Man came along, and changed all that. Then my gerbil died, and now I'm back to square one.

I love the Patchouli strip. I wasn't a huge MM fan, so I really liked the strips where she and her pals took over. It reminded me to go catch up on the Patchoulis I hadn't read yet. I would love to see Patchouli in color every week at the poop shoot...too bad she's so dead-set against it. /forums/images/icons/frown.gif
By the way, MM has grown on me. I didn't like the first Discworld book I read either...until I was 2/3rds of the way through it because that's how long it took for me to click into the humor. I really really like the animated MMs...I think that's what made me like the strip better.
I also really liked Briography.
BrianLynch
04-14-2003, 04:00 AM
MONKEY MAN will get political, but it definitely ain't "pro-terrorist".
And Crystal, thanks for the kind words. I think you'll like where MONKEY MAN is going, we're gonna tell some funny stories with lots of pop culture jokes thrown in, and BRIOGRAPHY will be back...

How can I ever take you seriously if you don't kick out your soapbox and be unoriginal? Come on!

His ears will be slightly larger than a normal human, but only because the artist for next week is talented and can draw someone as they are in real life.
As for getting on my soap box, I don't have one of them there soap boxes. But go back and read the entire run of MONKEY MAN. We make fun of EVERYTHING, even stuff I like. So if Bush is the lead character, it probably ain't gonna be "the adventures of super smart George Bush who is perfect".
In fact, we've had Bush in the strip before, go back and find him.

Brian, I am one MM's biggest fans. I read them all.
I am just begging for some fun anti-Bush stuff... oh and make fun of FOX News too! Bah! Evil Republicans and conservatives MUST ALL DIE!!!!!!!! BBC and AlJazeera rule! Americans suck!
(Disclaimer: this post has been brought to you in that tongue-in-cheek 'South Park' style humor that I dig, not meant as an attack on Monkey Man or his political leanings, or lack thereof)

YES! That kind of stuff! Brian... you have to listen to her. This is the kind of stuff we need in that strip. Don't let MM be ambiguous or cute about it. MM should be cowering in the corner as evil and big eared Bush disseminates his war mongering ideology on the peaceful world of Islam!
Dude... you could become famous for that. I kid you not.

Huh? Wait... where did I say anything about being un-American? Hell, disliking Bush is very feckin' American! I consider protestors patriotic. I think those who stand up to Bush and his administration are exercising their duty as citizens of the world to maintain a balance within "freedom".
I just think they are wrong... but that doesn't mean that I dislike anti-Bush humor. /forums/images/icons/smile.gif In fact, I dig it. Political humor is great.
I do find it interesting that when an opposing viewpoint is entered into the world of anti-government (for lack of a better word) that people immediatly think that the two sides are naturally unyielding and lack a sense of humor.
I am willing on both ends (that sounds bad). /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

So this feels a little weird since the last two pages have had nothing to do with me, but thanks for welcoming Patchouli !! I had a great time working on Monkey Man! (I even tried to put this up on the thread a little so it would make more sense to those who read in threaded mode, that's how nice I am!)
And as for the rest of the thread, I , for one, really am amazed by the way Brian can make such mean fun of everyone so lovingly. Not everyone can do it, though everyone tries. Viva Monkey Man!

Patchouli kicks ass, not just cause I say so but because the other fans say so and they outnumber the people what dont enjoy patchouli so yeaaaaah give it up for patchouli. Also I think ideas for future, I'd like to see some fun being made fun of videogames and the such as well as film, altho the film theme park was good, oh and lastly more king jack, hehe that guy provides the humour only a perverted obessive guardian angel can

I hope to see Patchouli one day make a political statement... though she will probably refuse to show up for the statement because it would be too obvious for her to show up where she says she will be...
