does this beer have to be a corona? or can it be a real beer like moosehead or guiness? mmm good beer...corona bad beer

Matthew

Moosehead? YUCK! I know it is supposed to be beer, but it smells and tastes like some skunk crapped in it.

How about a Summit? Or a Hacker Pshorr? Or something that is actually beer instead of beer flavored beverage?

Droogan_Leader

Hey, that beer is from Mexico. And they don't have decent water supplies down there. Give 'em a break. Besides, Corona is kickass with lime in it.

Matthew

I know the water sucks in Mexico! I don't mind Corona with lime.

I was slamming Moosehead. ISHY someone wiped their ass with the bottles I think.

What is the corona?

matthew_almeida
09-07-2003, 11:41 AM
Corona is beer...

And what kind of beer do you need to add a lime to make it taste good? a crappy beer....lets face corona will never amount to anything Molson or Budweiser has to offer.

Molson OR Budweiser? You were right in catergorizing them together, since neither is beer. They are beer flavored beverages.

Basically, any beer (with the exception of the Irish Stouts) that does not adhere to the Reinheits Kobold (Spelling may be off, but I am referring to the German purity laws for making and selling beer.) is not beer at all.

In all actuality, beverages like Bud, Miller, Mich, Molson are poison. If you tried to sell these beers in other countries, your shop would get shut down.

I don't drink beer. I wish I could drink beer. But god wouldn't let me.

Budweiser? Good Lord...

I will say, I had some Molson Canadians in Detroit recently--we don't have those here in CA--and it was damned good.

Coron'a still great on a hot summer day, especially while barbecueing. But I agree that anyone who puts fruit in their beer should be smacked.

Corona without a lime? I need fruit in my beer. Guess you better smack me, Ryall.

How exactly would you classify your views on beer, Ryall? Would you say you're a beer purist? Make no mistake, adding fruit to one's beer does not make one fruity. I can hang with the best.

In my view, each beer has its own purpose/place in society. For instance, where would college students be without Budweiser? It's not the king of beers in my opinion, but it is the cheapest draft, making it the drink of choice at many college parties. I happen to fall into that demographic as well, not so much by choice, but for lack of financial means.

I love going to the pub and trying a new brew as much as the next guy. But those of us who are less fortunate must often settle for less.

I wouldn't say "beer purist" or anything, but I just don't like limes or lemons to dilute the taste of the beer. Like, I think a good hefeweisen is great on its own without the lemon. Same with Corona.

I'm no snob, though--I admit Guinness is my favorite, and other dark beers like Newcastle, Boddington's, Sam Adams and Bass are right up there, too, but it all depends. An ice-cold Coors on a hot summer day is tough to beat. Miller Lite and Heinekin are good go-to beers at bars or when you feel like going for quantity. Budweiser is good on camping trips out of an ice chest.

I'm actually not such a fan of most microbrewed beers--they all have this odd after-taste, even the ales, that just doesn't work as well as the real stuff.

Big fan of Sam Adams Light, too, I have to say. And Stella Urquell, which is tough to find out here but easy to come by when I was in New York, is a good brew, too. And that Molson Canadian I mentioned was damned good. I like Dixie with spicy food, and a Peroni with pasta is also solid. And, of course, sushi with Kirin is a perfect meal.

My biggest enemy, mostly from a misspent college, is Coors Light. That stuff is just awful, a really piss-poor beer and my friends can't seem to move beyond it. I hate that watery crap. There's other cheap beers that are much better.

Ahh, beer...the cause of, and solution to, all of society's problems, to quote Homer Simpson.

Personally, I prefer lemon in my Corona instead of lime. It's so much better.

I don't usually like beer, but since I'm on a low carb diet, there is a beer that likes me:

Anyone tried it? I pretty much gotta at some point, it's too convenient.

Taking in lots of alcohol improves my French considerably.

I have tried the Michelob Ultra because a friend is on the Atkins diet. It isn't bad for being super-watery.

For the full carb beer drinkers my recommendation...Blue Moon on draft with an orange. Also this is Leinenkugal country around here, especially on long weekends in the Northwoods. In the summer it's Honey Weiss and Berry Weiss (or together for a Honey Bear), and winters are for Big Butt and Creamy Dark. Everyday is a good day for Leinie's Red or a properly poured black and tan.

Matthew

I used to like Leiny's until they were bought out. Then they became crappy!

I love Sam's Summer Ale, and they also make a great Weiss!

I think the perfect beer for me would have to be Overon though.

Atkins addicts should realize that ALL alcohol, no matter the carb content, is BAD. You may be downing 3 carbs per light beer going down, but once in the body you are increasing your insulin levels as much as if you had 2 pieces of white bread.

You're telling us that alcohol is bad?

[shudders]

Oh, the horror.......

Razorback

No, pay attention... I am telling those on the Atkins diet that low carb alcohol is no better than high carb alcohol.

...and besides, Amstel Light is the only worthy light beer ever made anyway.
I'm jealous of Californians for maybe a handful of reasons, but the major one is how freaking cheap Sierra Nevada is there. I've paid over $9 for a six pack of that shite.
But then again, many of you will never taste the divinity that is the Third Coast Old Ale (closest thing to it is a Belgian Triple Ale called Gulden Draak -- check it out) brewed by Bells here in Michigan OR Bells' Expedition Stout either. Both are the finest, fullest-flavoured and strongest beers ever experienced. So what they cost around $15 for a sixer! Anyone looking for a good, sweet, dark beer should at least try Spaten Optimator.

AND, I have to agree and disagree with Ryall about weisse beers. Hacker Pschorr is a fantastic beer all by itself, but a lemon or an orange just compliments that beer like none other.

Zens: Blue Moon is a great beer, especially on draft (like you said). I'm losing faith with their bottled beers though; the last two packs I got were oddly.......lacking. [shrug] /forums/images/icons/confused.gif

Still I'd like to think that anything that says alcohol in it doesn't equal to rich and brimming the better-for-you-health-than-other-brands bullshit, no matter how they try to sell it or market it..

Yea, I'm alcohol-less while I'm on Atkins again. *kicks floor and looks down* but I'm failing off the diet intentionally on my b-day at the end of the month so I will need to make up for lost time.
