View Full Version : What was the last movie you saw?

Well I went to the movies to go see Old School. There's not much worth seeing right now, it's all a lot of crappy gimmick movies (The Core, Phone Booth...). But I had wanted to see Old School for a while but never went. So I finally did. Great movie. If you want a good comedy, put Will Ferril in the cast. I laughed till it hurt when he shot that tranq. into his jugular. That was some funny [censored].

Dreamcatcher. I had read the book and found it to be a bit boring towards the last half and the movie was not too different in that sense (great first half and weaker second half). However, I liked the movie more than I liked the book (how many times has THAT happened???). I actually liked the fact that it was missing tons of stuff. /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

The Hunted
It definitely needed one more scene with some character development, but otherwise it was one of the most intense thrillers in a long time. Also some of the most explicit gore I've ever seen in a movie.

Probably the best low-budget sci-fi film I've ever seen. Probably because it doesn't deal with poor CG space ships and stupid aliens. Its the most inventive script imaginable with a decent cast, minimal SFX, and it really offers a deep look into the persona of human survival. This movie is starting to become an underground classic, even though it came out in 97. Its one movie that I recommend everyone rents.

I actually can't remember what the last movie I saw in a theatre was. I think it was that Spanish flick Talk to Her. If you're a big fan of movies about coma victims and people crawling inside of giant fabric vaginas, then I'd highly recommend it.
Last I saw at home was Blade 2. I rented it, then turned my brain to "off".

"Dreamcatcher." The more time passes, the less I like it. The special effects were good, the cast was solid, the director and the screenwriter both have great track records... but they tried to shoehorn way too much stuff into two hours. They should have just stretched it into a mini-series for TV like they do most of King's stuff.

Earlier tonight I saw Irreversible.
My diagnosis? Very well-made, and the reverse-chronology technique isn't merely a gimmick like it was in, say, Memento. Go see it, if you can stomach the INCREDIBLY DISTURBING elements, that is. Emphasis on DISTURBING.

The Guru,
It was ok, but I much preffered East is East (previous film, same star, same team, far better).
Heather Graham as a porn star was fun (typecasting?), but wasted as my girlfriend was watching with me.
Overshadowed by my previous night, watching Battle Royale (starring Takeshi Kitano).

I saw House of 1000 Corpses on Friday night. I'm not the biggest horror genre fan in the world, but I thought Zombie managed to pull it off. He was trying to make a blood-drenched homage to 80's gore flicks, and he did. It's cheesy, stupid, and bloody as hell. I was actually surprised by how decent the makeup effects were. Worth the admission just for the freak show elements... it was a spectacle, that's for sure. You couldn't pay me enough to have to watch it again, though.

Why would say it was a gimmick in that movie? I thought it was quite well done with bits going backwards and other bits going forward. I'm just kind of curious, becuase I really haven't found many people that criticize that movie.

I watched 3 films in one day
Mr deeds: which just say its dvd release here a week ago, not bad but sandler can do better namely in the form of
Punch Drunk Love: which I thnk I enjoyed more cause sandler was a sort of realistic chracter, this is to sandler what chasing amy is to kevin smith.
Dog Soldiers: British film, a small squadron goes on a training exericse in some scottish woods and come across werewolves, despite the lacklustre effects for the werewolves it was very enjoyable, and technically what resident evil SHOULD have been.
Phonebooth- good flick despite the reviews and the fact that most of the movie was shot in phonebooth. The last movie I watched at home was "A Better Place". THAT is a good flick.

I finally got around to seeing 8 Mile. Everyone kept telling me how great it was, and what a great actor Eminem is. I really don't understand all the hype about his acting skills, but the rap battles were fun to watch. I found the movie to be pretty mediocre overall.

Theater: Ghosts of the Abyss. Quite good; worth seeing. It wasn't in IMAX format here (our local IMAX theater, affiliated with a science museum, burned all its bridges with Disney after Fantasia 2000), but it was in 3D, and it worked very well.
Home: Last new (read: I never saw it before) movie I watched on DVD was 24 Hour Party People, which wasn't great, but had a nice sense of humor and some good moments. Last thing I watched for the umpteenth time: A Hard Day's Night. I just love the cheeky sense of humor of the early Beatles.
And Omaru, I second the recommendation for Dog Soldiers. Dumb and cheesy-looking, but fun. A friend saw it last year while on a trip to Europe, and he recommended I see it first chance I got here in the States. It first aired here on Sci-Fi Channel (edited for language and extreme violence and with frequent commercial breaks), and I just thought it was okay. When it finally hit DVD, I picked it up and it was like a whole different movie, with nothing cut out and surround sound cranked up to proper levels. Some decent scares there.
Man: "Don't take that tone with me, young man. I fought the war for your sort."
Ringo: "I bet you're sorry you won."

it reminded me of predator, porbably because they were soldiers in some woods, and also night of the living dead, cause they lock themselves in a house and barricade whilst fending off the attack. And lastly lycanthropes are cool, maybe not as cool as Vampires or zombies but quite cool up there on teh horror movie roster.

I saw Ghosts of the Abyss yesterday. I have to say I was quite impressed. Now while it is a lot like watching the Discovery Channel in 3D it was a lot of fun. They throw in some gratuitous 3D moments just to impress people, but on the whole it was really interesting and seeing it in 3D IMAX format was something I plan to do a lot more often from now on.

I love movies more than anything!!
That's my life. Anyways I saw 4 movies in the last 2 weeks:
-Phone Booth: Great movie I definently recommend this one!!
-A man apart: It was better than i had expected.
-Head of State: It was alright. Chris Rock did a good job.
-Anger Management: Not only do I think this is Adam Sandler's best movie, but it was definently Jack Nicholsons best comedy!! He did a better acting job than even in "About Shmitt"! The movie would have sucked with out Nicholson in my opinion but I definently laughed harder than i have in a while.
Also I don't see why some people have a problem with DareDevil cause that was just a tight movie! Better than the first Batman.
(I think it's stupid that the Elektra spin-off has her coming back to life though).
How did u see X2 anyways?

8 crazy nights: so I'm a little out of season, meant to feel sorry for the little midget old guy but I found him annoying, now I can annoy my friend by singing "technical fault" in a quite good outtake of the little guy.
Airheads: ANother film with sandler in it, but Brandon Fraser and Steve Buscemi steal the show, I quite liked it but airheads is a bit false flavoured, they are not as stupid as I anticipated them being.

I hope I'm not giving anything away, but any suspensful/horror movie that uses the whole cat-jumping-into-frame-for-a-cheap-thrill trick just doesn't cut it anymore. Sounds like City By the Sea. I was reading a few interviews with Vincent LaMarca after that movie came out. Except for characters names, the city, and the basic idea, everything was fabricated. I think there should be rules about the use of "True Events" when describing movies. At least 75% should be accurate?
If it keeps going like this I will claim that Office Space was based on true events from my life because I worked at a tech company, know a guy who is actually named Michael Bolton, and I own a ancient red Swingline stapler.

Basically, it started about 10 years ago, a little three year old called James Bulger went missing and was in fact murdered by two boys, they claimed to have seen the 3rd film and came up with the premise of killing the infant because they kept torturing him and he just kept getting back up, the whole series got banned, in 1998 bride of chucky got released and I think they reviewed the prequals fior re-release. They (BBFC: British Board of Film Classification) lifted the ban on 2 & 3 but not the first film. Since the doll tells Andy to do bad things, I dont realy see it myself because I thought this process gets repeated in the 3rd film with a new kid. Anyway BBFC basically ruin all our films by banning them or removing little scenes that are about 10 seconds long, this is okay for some stuff, but for say Naked Killer 2, they took too much out for the film to be enjoyable. Question, how long was the Mel gibson vs Jet Li fight in lethal weapon 4: here it was roughly 3-5 mins long. My friend said youse guys get about another several mins of fighting for that. Oh and Die hard 3: we're missing 2 small scenes and about 43-ish f-words.
Christ on a Cracker! I had no idea that shit happened out there.
I've never heard of naked Killer 2 but with a name like that, its got to be good jam. Was there just a bunch of unanswered questions from the first Naked Killer that had to be answered in the 2nd?

The last movie i saw was Bruce Almighty with Jim Carrey, Jennifer Aniston and Morgan Freeman as the all mighty God himself. It was pretty funny. In this movie Jim Carrey gos back to his old stuff such as his goofy looking faces, his weird iminations and his funny voices. Playing God isnt easy as it sounds. This movie had good moral values and as shown in this movie)the role of God is something no moral man can pull off. I believe Jim Carrey has sort of an Tom Hanks career but so far in Jim Carreys dramatic roles in "The Majestic" and "Man on the Moon" werent so hot. Each movie no offense didnt do so well at the box office, but in this movie Jim Carrey gives the audience what it wants and something the audience can enjoy. I'm not suprised that you didn't hear about it's theatre release. If it weren't for my friends telling me about it. I wouldn't of known the movie existed. Apparently it was only in theatres for like two or three weeks. The day I planed to go see it in the theatres was the same day Two Towers was premiering. So the AMC Theatre cleared out a lot of the older movies to free up a lot of spaces to screen two towers. I missed seeing it in the theatres by a day. I was so pissed. But tell me what you think of it after you see it. Those Gun Katas kick ass.

Catch me if you can: fun and good movie, I hate dicaprio but its hard to in this one.
The Tuxedo: Sub standard flick, not that jackie chan cares, he's sold out to hollywood, but hey any 50 something year old that can still do their own stunts is impressive. (unlike Hulk Hogan who cant do anything, except beat up roddy piper who he never won a match against before, yeh right!)
Gangs of new york: I hated it, dull and bland, not very good but voilence was okay, Only person who seems to be having fun is Daniel D Lewos, watching him chew the scenary for 2 hours and 40something mins was quite good, ANd liam neeson, he should give up fighting, he always gets killed

I'm not a big DiCaprio fan either. I never saw, or will ever see, Titanic. I'm avoiding it like the black plaque, actually. But, I thought he did a really good job in Catch Me If You Can and Gangs.
Oh, and the last movie I saw was That Thing You Do on DVD...only because it has Liv Tyler in it. Hmmmm, Liv Tyler
You know That thing you Do is one of those movie that i almost always watch some of whenever it's on TV. Its not a great movie by any stretch of the imagination, but it's a likeable flick, and those damn pop songs get stuck in your head, plus your right it has that Yummy Yummy Liv Tyler. Grrrrrrowwwl.

In D.K. Holm's DVD Diatribe column this week, he says "Bale looks and sounds like Keanu Reeves". Bale is perfect in the role. Few actors could garner a sympathetic chord in the audience and play a man without emotion. He did not rehash his sociopathic turn from American Psycho; which would have been easy to slip into.
At first, D.K.'s comment seemed to be a slam on Bale. Maybe he is saying Keanu Reeves acts exactly like a person who has no emotions and who gets a daily shot of Prozium to stay that way. /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

Well, I just finished watching Adaptation, and I must say, Nicolas Cage is a much better actor than I thought. He plays the same role in every movie but here he was phenomonal. The whole movie was interesting but strange. It's really hard to describe the movie, except that its a movie of the movie itself being written and time keeps jumping back and forth between a couple moments in the past 5 years. Glad I finally got to see it. Didn't blow me away like Being John Malkovitch, but an excellent flick nonetheless.

"You've seen the best, now see the rest!" Although, the movie I saw before that one was on VHS -- "One Two Three" with James Cagney. That movie was excellent and I recommend that everyone see it. It's very funny with a frenetic pace -- you don't know the term "rapid-fire" until you see this film; Cagney is as sharp as a whip and doesn't quit -- definitely one of his best performances! He's a natural, and even shined in an average movie like this. What Carey needs is another go with the Farelly Brothers. Glover and Aniston also gave noteworthy performances. the last movie i saw at the cinema was 2 fast 2 furious. This was an attempt to make a more action packed, car interest orientated sequel of the fast an the furious. Unfortunately this was not the case, the directors obviously thought that by adding well known rappers (ludacris, tyrese ) to the cast and a couple of new cars that this sequel would outstand its predocessor, this also was not thr case. As the film began to unravel I realised that the orientation of the film which should be on cars and speed was dissapearing for the cliche plot of drug transporting. Overall this film was ok if you want occasional action, some sex appeal and to see some phat cars but not for a good sequel. 6.5/10

T3, this weekend, finally.
I liked it. I think James Cameron's absence was very noticeable, but I thought it was decent, anyway. However, people who've said that it's better than T2 are high. I liked the ending, though--didn't expect that. Up til then, it felt like the same ol', same ol', which isn't bad, I just like that they shook up the franchise and even set things up for more with or without Gov. Schwarzenegger.

Didn't it come out this weekend? (Well, Wednesday) It's not like you waited an exceptionally long time, unless you've been waiting since T2 came out for T3, then go on, say "finally". I find it odd that I took exception to you saying "finally". Do you?

Tommy Boy. What a great buddy film. Has to be Farrley's best work. I also saw a really early Sandler film this week Going Overboard. Holy crap is it bad. Apparently it's the first movie he ever did, and while I understand that any new actor needs work, I can't imagine this made any money. It's a comedy that isn't funny. EVER. I can't imagine anyone writing a movie this bad. It fails on so many levels. Scratch that. It fails on ALL levels. You should really rent this movie, just to see the very bottom of cinema. You may complain about The Hulk of Matrix Reloaded, but they're masterpieces compared to this mess. After watching it, a home video of a 5 year old's birthday will seem like Oscar material.
Funny sidenote, I looked up the writer on imdb, she goes by Valerie Breiman and Eirelav Nameirb. Her name must be so tainted that she needs a penname. How embarassing.

I'm with you dude! (but only to make this point that) Going overboard is far more painful and horrendous than Mortal Kombat: Anal lotion. Its a 90 min film but it seems so much longer, I cant decide if I was more retarded for just watching it in the first place, or watching it from start to finish.

Nope. Run Ronnie Run is an offering by David Cross and Bob Oedenkirk of Mr. Show with Bob and Dave . It's a mullet movie along the same lines as Joe Dirt, except much, much better.

My question, Myshadow, is how you watched Run Ronnie Run when that movie never made it past the test screenings it went through like two years ago? It's not going to be released in any way, shape or form. Are you talking about the short on Mr. Show?
To answer your question, Omaru, Run Ronnie Run was a full-length movie David Cross and Bob Odenkirk made out of a skit from their HBO comedy show. The main character is a trouble-making, mullet-headed redneck named Ronnie played by David who is constantly in trouble with the law. He meets up with a director named Terry played by Bob who creats a COPS style TV show after Ronnie's life. The only similarity to Run Lola Run that I know of is the title.
Last movie I watched was The Hours. Great movie.

The first Run Ronnie Run was released in April 2002. Another one is being released in Sep 2003. The second one is supposed to spin off to unrelated topics from the Mr Show series.
I just saw Pirates of The Carribean: The Curse of The Black Pearl. It was awesome.

I'm depressed now. I think I'll go walk off of a cliff and be suspended in mid-air until I realize that I'm no longer being supported. Then I’ll look at the unseen viewers and gulp. My body will drop like a stone, stretching my neck like a bungee cord. I’ll wave goodbye and then the rest of me will plummet to the ground below, leaving behind a whisp of dust spelling out the word ‘Yikes.’

You're completely flaccid, my man. You've never been really cold or hungry, I can tell. You've still got a foot in the womb, little boy. So you and your little friends can high-five and smell each other's farts until you've had your fill, but you've still got no game.
Get a good comeback ready. You may be banned from the site for your post, so think up as many cuss words as you can in the mean time. Be sure to emphasize your attack on arbitrary, yet distinguishing, characteristics of your target. Be sure to think of a screen name that will make your friends giggle. An alternate spelling for the word intercourse is always a crowd pleaser. Pretty sneaky, siss.
I know that the boys from DEVO would be proud that someone has taken their challenge to heart. Death comes for us all, little one, so don't let your mittens become threadbare.

The last two movies I saw were The Italian Job (in the theatre)--well put together, and a big plus that the trailer didn't give away every detail of the movie.
And, of course, on DVD, Where the Buffalo Roam, starring Bill Murray as Dr. Hunter S. Thompson. And to celebrate what a good time I had watching this movie, I'm going to go watch Fear and Loathing, and leave you with a quote from the great Gonzo journalist:
"I hate to advocate drugs, alcohol, violence, or insanity to anyone, but they've always worked for me."
--Hunter S. Thompson
