Lets see me and my friend are arguing about what the worst movie ever made is... Here are the canidates
A) Spice World(Spice Girls Move: Heh i voted for this)
B) Stephen King's IT
C) The Rocky Horror Picture Show
D) Grease

I say none of the above, and choose:
Mortal Kombat Annihilation
There are no words in any spoken or written language to express how...icky? That "movie" was.
(Dungeons and Dragons following a close second. Thora Birch, noooo!)

SpiceWorld is a fantastic movie!!! (I like Grease and Rocky Horror alot too.. never saw IT)
I think you must have something against campy musicals.. Half the fun is that they are silly..
You must really like movies like Terms of Endearment or Platoon. You should loosen up.

I agree with everyone's choices except these---
A) Spice World(Spice Girls Move: Heh i voted for this)
B) Stephen King's IT
C) The Rocky Horror Picture Show
D) Grease
---I liked all of those movies. One had the hottest woman alive in it, IT was flawed but creepy, and ROCKY HORROR and GREASE were both fun.
My choices are THE DOOM GENERATION or DUDE WHERE'S MY CAR.

Rocky Horror?! That's a GREAT movie and I dont even LIKE musicals...
But EASILY... EASILY the worst movie I've ever seen..
Was Point Break.
The only other movie I've seen that was nearly as bad as that was "Vampires: Los Muertos" the crummy vampires sequal staring Bon Jovi and that kid from Family Matters....

Never seen Spice World but the other 3 are great films. Some more than others but certainly not the worst of all time!
For me that choice easily goes to Natural Born Killers. I have yet to this day make it all the way through that movie.

C'mon, Point Break is just good clean fun. You have Gary Busey in full haggard veteran mode, Patrick Swayze weaeing a Ronald Reagan mask, and Keanu Reeves boldly exclaiming, "I am an FBI Agent!" Anybody else notice how blatantly Fast and the Furious ripped this movie off? And Kathryn Bigelow is a great action director. Anyone here seen "Near Dark"?
And I like Rocky Horror as well. And Grease is the word.

A movie so bad that most people forgot it:
The Postman
Never have I seen so many people walk out of a movie theater. Surely a war torn country is more interesting than what that meandering piece of crap was. Its only contribution to society was to show that not all books make great movies.

Worst movies ever:
1. The Master of Disguise
2. Scooby-Doo
3. Battlefield Earth
No contest on Master of Disguise. Worst movie ever. It isn't only painfully unfunny, it's so not funny it makes you forget that such a thing as comedy exists.

How can you hate the Matrix? That's like saying, "I hate pie and masturbation." The movie is just too cool.
Return of the Jedi is the most lackluster installment in the original trilogy. That's the one when I think Lucas started to lose touch with reality. If it hadn't been for the Ewoks there might not have neen a Jar-Jar Binks. Nonetheless, you still had that bitchin' lightsaber fight at the end between Vader and Luke, and that fish-lookin' dude co-piloting the Millenium Falcon.
DarthMaulRat
04-12-2003, 11:12 PM
People get so pissed at Return of the Jedi just because of the Ewok antics. Honestly, can you tell me what other part of that movie is so bad?
Leia wears the slave outfit.
A Super Star destroyer blows up.
We finally see the entire Rebel Fleet in action.
Jabba not only gets that awesome laughing dog, but he gets killed!
The Emperor gives Luke the biggest ass kicking in the entire Trilogy.
Luke goes to the dark side for a moment.
A circle is completed when Luke cuts off Vader's hand.
We see finally see Anakin's face.
The surprisingly tense forest swoop chase.
The much more believable explosion of the second Death Star.
No Darth, no Palpatine, no Super Star Destroyer, a logical conclusion of the empire.
Really, how can all those elements really add up to one of the worst movies?
And don't whine about Boba's lame death, because back then he wasn't the massively popular character that he is today.

I don't find it cool. I don't mean any offense to those who love it but I thought it was boring, weak and a digital bone thrown to the mindnumb masses. It makes me feel ill when I watch it. Seriously.
As for ROTJ... the thing that I hated most about it was NOT the Ewoks (in fact, they don't bother me at all) but Luke's apparent and total loss of his light saber skills. He swings his laser sword like someone who has never batted swings a bat. It looks GOOFY!
Also, Han Solo is like some other guy... as if Lucas cut his balls off. His character just doesn't sit right with me. I could go on but I won't.
Honestly, I was only serious about my first choice for worst movie. While I don't particularly like the Matrix or ROTJ I don't think they are the worst movies I have ever seen. I still watch ROTJ every now and then... though the Matrix DOES make me ill.
I hope the next one is better.

Yeah, I still don't get Harry Potter. I hated the first movie so much, it was either boring or annoying or a combination of both.
Yet I reluctantly saw the second and found it to be a pretty entertaining movie. Definitely a film I don't mind today's kids seeing. Although it did reuse alot of AOTC music, which kind of freaked me out.

By the way, I have to mention the made-for-tv movie 'Fall Into Darkness' that they supposedly based on my favorite writer, Christopher Pike's book of the same title. Forget it. It's so bloody awful I can't watch it without serious homicidal thoughts towards the people who made it.

This question is hard to answer because 9 out of 10 times I can spot a bad movie a mile away. I do tend to only see the movies I know won't dissapoint.. or at least not by a lot.
However, I think a movie like The Ring is definently one of the worst I've seen. Anyone want to explain the point of this movie? Literally. If you know the tape is going to kill you.. here's a genius idea.. get rid of your tv. Why would you even haunt a tape? Or come out of a TV? Jesus.. this movie left me so mad after watching it to this day I still want to strangle the screen writer, of both the american version and japanese version.
Just my opinion though.

Well... the people don't know that it is their TV that will cause their death. Plus, they really don't believe that "it is real". Also, you are arguing against the defining plot point (the haunting) which falls under "initial suspension of disbelief" that every movie deserves (meaning, the viewer accepts whatever silly premise drives the movie as long as the supporting story line remains intact).
I did not love the movie but I did like its ending (the final ending I mean).

I think some people might miss the point of the movie. The murder mystery is really secondary to the social commentary. And if you want the mystery to be the main point, I can see how you'd think it was a little slow. But it's one of my favorites!
And the Ring is the scariest effing movie. I am still terrified. (Placing it firmly on the "good movie" list.)

Well it is true to me.
I suppose I just didn't care enough about the movie to really want to understand it. The thing with the horse jumping off of the boat had no point to the story(from what I remember). I knew the girl was buried in that cabin when they gave it so much attention.
Overall, I just didn't get anything out of the movie except questions that should have been answered. I guess that is why I hate it so.

I can't agree with Point Break as the worst, when The Fast and the Furious is a remake of it (substitute cars for surfboards and hijacking for bank robbery, and the story beats are there in both films, all the way down to the lead criminal's final fate, and the cop's hand in it). As the quality of something diminishes as it is copied, The Fast and the Furious has to be worse than Point Break. They're both pretty dumb, though.
Jessica, I back you 100% on the awfulness of The Sweetest Thing. Yet there are some people I know (all women, oddly) who think it's the funniest thing they've seen in years. I only laughed at one joke, though: the father of the bride telling the almost-son-in-law (the bride and groom cancelled their wedding amicably at the last minute) "You owe me thirty thousand dollars, you son of a b*tch!" That made me laugh, but the rest just bugged.
My vote for second-worst movie is Nothing But Trouble, starring Chevy Chase, Dan Aykroyd, Demi Moore and John Candy. And it only escapes the bottom by salvation from the greatest party-rap-band-with-fictional-rappers-in-it, Digital Underground, who appear halfway through the film to perform "Same Song," the first song to feature 2Pac.
The worst movie ever? She Devil, starring Roseanne Barr, Meryl Streep and Ed Begley, Jr. Too awful to think about for very long. Ugh.

I think everyone begins thinking of actors as crap when they start playing the same person in nearly every movie. Meg Ryan has done a few unique roles but she usually just plays the same 'cute' character in her movies.
Hanks has gone from Mermaids to Castaway to Road to Perdition. Perhaps in the 80's he did a lot of movies with the same persona, but he is certainly a much more developed actor now than ever before.

I feel just the opposite about Tom Hanks. I loved him when he was in Bosom Buddies, The 'burbs, Big, etc. He was my favorite actor when I was growing up. But he seemed to get all high and mighty when he won the oscar two years in a row. I have not really liked him since then. It seems to me that now he is always playing the same guy - Tom Hanks. In Catch Me if You Can, Carl was just Tom Hanks with a goofy accent.

Dave, Digital Underground is the one thing keeping Nothing But Trouble out of the cellar for me. The three or four minutes dedicated to "Same Song" are a welcome respite from the laughless dreck that the all-star cast was dishing out the rest of the movie.

This Nothing But Trouble discussion has brought up an interesting question in my mind: What the hell happened to all the original SNL alums? Akroyd hasn't made a good movie in I don't know how long, Murphy and his horrible Dr. Doolittle movies, and my god look at Chevy Chase. Why did all these supremely talented people get sucked in this unending tornado of suckiness? Then in a class I was in, somebody popped it in to the VCR and we ened up watching it. 10 minutes I realized thta it was the stupidest movie ever. Of all the main baddies in charlies angels, I think crispin glover probably stood out as the most memorable bad guy. But a good cast in general like Bill murray, his relationship with Tim curry. And crispin is just the busiest actor in weirdness (see willard and you see what I'm talking about)

Rocky Horror Picture Show? I never really thought of it as a comedy. It has wacky characters, a few funny innuendos, the ridiculous ending, but it just doesn't seem like a comedy.
I think Little Shop of Horrors is the one musical movie that is intentionaly funny. Of course, its not like there's a multitude of musical comedy movies to provide competition. Then again, Singin' in the Rain is considered a movie comedy, so...

I did not think that Battlefield Earth was as bad as many people think it is/was. The ending, with the Harrier fighters was idiotic though. However, the movie was not that far from the book (well, the first half... since they only covered one half of the book).

its a film I'd like a serious remake of, its a sort of cannonball film but with the slight edginess on the whole waste the other drivers and pedestrians thing, I just didn't like the way they handled it. Like when the one drives through the old folks home you just see all the old people shooting up and back down single file behind the bush as if they had been run over, I wanted more gore and less slapstick.
DarthMaulRat
04-21-2003, 08:23 PM
Reminds me of Cannonball Run, one of my guilty pleasures. That movie is just so lighthearted that you can't judge it on any serious level.
As for a gore-fest with cars, perhaps the supposed GTA movie will deliver. The game is based on all of our guilty pleasures: Cars, stealing, babes, racing, killing, lighting things on fire... there should be no excuse for a movie based on that game to be anything but a guy's night out type film.

Ok I can't decide if you are actually trying to defend Keanu Reeves or not. Either way I think you might want to check your facts before you start spouting off at people.
The Matrix: Reloaded marks his 47th completed project, not 4th. Granted a lot of that is really awful stuff but that's his choice. There are other gems like Parenthood and the Devil's Advocate. So if you are trying to insult him you didn't do a very good job, on the other hand if you were trying to back him up....well you still didn't do a very good job. Check your facts! I saw a lot of bad movies in my 29 years. Giving one the worst "star" award going to be hard.
Bounce was really bad. Sorry Ben, but seeing a love stroy when not once, either of the character say "I love you", that's pityfull. Even if some scenes are pieces of art.
Gone with the wind Couldn't watch it in a row. Had to stop the tape every five minutes before falling asleep of Boredom. Good acting though...
Legend of the lost grave or something like that... With Stacy Keach. I was on a efyptian strip after the Mummy, but this one couldn't satisfie even the most retarded teenager
All the series with McKaulay...Sorry. Can't bear those ones.
But the award goes to Titanic. Who believes that Dicaprio can act. Kate Whinslet did her best to keep him on his lines but nothing helps such a moron. An irish in his early 20 who looks like a 15boy ? Get real. I never stand until the boat starts to sink. And believe me, I tried. Hard.
Razorback

Also, DiCaprio is a very good actor... some would say a great actor.
RB

The only good thing about Titanic was that it was visually astounding. The story wasn't that great, the acting wasn't that great. I don't need Indiana Jones on a boat. I will say that DiCaprio is a great actor. His part in Titanic was just awful though, and you're only as good as the material you're given.
I don't understand the whole Leo backlash. The guy can act, regardless of how pretty he is. Brad Pitt has the same backlash and he's proven he can act (12 Monkeys, Fight Club). I want to see more of Tom Cruise hatred. He hasn't done anything different since All the Right Moves .

Titanic s(t)ank.
Visual effects aside I can think of better films based on the actual tragedy like "a night to remember" and not some crappy simplified 3 way love triangle. Billy zane and ship movies go together (see going overboard.) This film didn't really capture anything. Its an average movie that through advertising over achieved far more than it honestly deserved, I saw it twice in the cinema so I liked it and then. I suddenly didn''t. Anyway Best bits were when A) kate winslet bared uppper body and b) when the boat started sinking, they didn't really make it seem its hard to imagine this film being tragic when you see someone falling down a sloped deck, hitting tables and other people or jumping and spinning as they hit the boat propellor and you're thinking "cool." Not worst movie ever, no but by no means not great or good either.

Great argument there RB, U really know how to rally the masses to your way of thinking. Lets face it, the movie served it's purpose as a chick flick that made money one summer due to the hype around it. Nothing more, nothing less. The script was average, the acting passible although Kate really shone the brightest and the plot was absolutely dire but then again how interesting would it have been to have just shown a ship leaving port and then sinking??? Cheaper maybe. Actually now that I think about it....... What a gr8 film that would have been......

I recently viewed a very odd movie with Christian Bale called, "All the Little Animals". It is not the worst movie of all time, but it may be one of the strangest.
Bobby Platt (Christian Bale) is a disturbed, abused young man. He runs away from home to the English countryside, where he meets an equally odd adult named Mr. Summers (John Hurt). Summers walks the roads looking for road kill to bury. Together, Bale and Hurt team up to liberate the road kill from their pavement graves. Over the scooping and gentle handling of the road kill, Bobby and Mr. Summers share secrets and form a special relationship.
