Folks:
I have set up a CafePress store in order to raise money for the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund's efforts to sideline a MAJOR blow to the arts. This was specifically targeted at comic books, but rest assured the ruling will be cited in cases against other arts as well!

Read about here:
http://newsarama.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=4953

And show your support here: http://www.cafeshops.com/kepink

Or go to the CBLDF here: www.cbldf.org (http://www.cbldf.org) and support them directly!

Better yet, do both!

Hopefully it'll help!

In case I haven't said it today, Kep, you rule!

Thank you kindly!

And thank you to those who have already ordered. It's a good cause and a fun shirt!

Of course, we also have a thong!

“I don’t care what type of evidence or what type of testimony is out there, use your rationality, use your common sense. Comic books, traditionally what we think of, are for kids. This is in a store directly across from an elementary school and it is put in a medium, in a forum, to directly appeal to kids. That is why we are here, ladies and gentlemen. … We’re here to get this off the shelf.”

The biggest problem that I see with Texas is the mindset of the legal system. It seems to invade the minds of judges, lawyers, citizens (jurors)... everybody. I have taken both criminal and business law classes and everytime we found ourselves in a Texas based case we would chuckle... because everyone in the class(es) knew we were about to venture into nutty law territory.

I remember one silly freshman asking a professor "How can this happen?" (with respect to some case) and the professor shrugged and said "It's Texas."

Yup, I remember when my ex was in Law School and she said the same thing. Weird laws down there.

Wait you cant sell a Adult Comic book to an adult in Texas, and yet in Texas you can buy porno at the mall or book store?

Well this is Texas home of the "drive through liquor store"

Unfortunately I don't believe this is just an example of Texas wackiness. I live in a state with very strict censorship laws (Utah) and am faced with a Governor who wants to make it so the state can even restrict and tax what I buy over the internet.

Just how old are these judges? These "kids" that read comic books have all grown up. The vast majority of current books are targeted at the male age 18-30 demographic aren't they? Senile old judges with no grasp on current reality are just one more example of why our justice system as a whole needs to be reformed. My two cents won't buy much but if we all pitch in... Thanks for keeping us aware of this issue.

There's a great line in there from the prosecutor that he doesn't care how many expert witnesses are brought in, common sense tells us that comics are for kids.

OW! Could it hurt more?

The first amendment is a crazy thing, i can say "[censored] the first amendment" and the first amendment protects me.

well, yeah, i can see that. and unfortunately, this sets a precedent that other states could follow if they want.

I feel like this thread shouldn't disappear this quickly...

(Am I overstepping my bounds?)

It's just because there's not a lot to say about it when most of us just plainly agree. We either need to get Chris to keep it up at the top of the forum list, or we need to remember to *bump* it once in a while.

I don't know about anyone else, but I can't wait to sport one of those t-shirts.

Is that what *bump* means? I never knew.

Bumping, Isnt that where you post the word "bump" to keep a topic alive and/or bumping the topci so that it takes up to pages as opposed to one. I find myslef skip to the first post on a new page rather than reading ALL the posts

Thank you all VERY kindly for keeping this alive! The orders for the shirts are trickling in and I thank you all kindly. ALSO! Remember that this is just one way to help... sending money directly to the CBLDF (www.cbldf.org) is also HIGHLY encouraged!

Yes, bumping is just posting the word to keep a topic active.

P.S...........*bump*

It's funny...I seem to have developed a *bump* on my shoulder. Guess I should buy a t-shirt to cover it up.

Maybe the CBLDF should team up with the video game industry. A pullitzer prize winning cartoonist ran this in the Seattle Post-Intelligencer a while ago.

Threadkiller beat me to it, but the gaming community's rebuttal has been articulated by Penny Arcade:

How dare they imply that parents should take responsibility for their own children instead of the government?
