I love Star Wars... perhaps it's because I [censored] Chewbacca, no that can't be why chewbacca has no genitals as far as I know. Well, anyway how can you not like Star Wars, it is a classic low budget film that has standed the test of time and 2 bad prequels. The original trilogy has a certain amount of plot and genious to it that makes you believe you are in the Millenium Falcon with Lando Calrissean trying to blow up the new death star. It was a movie that shocked the world in both of the sequels, how many people weren't shocked at the moment when Darth Vader said "Luke I am your Father." I tell you, I almost had a heart attack I never thought Luke be related to a robot with a human head. And then In Return of the Jedi, Luke and Leigha brother and sister?? Dude, Leigha kissed Luke on the mouth in the beginning of the movie before it!! It's shock value isn't all that makes it so great it also has great action sequences and how many people haven't been sitting around witgh a light saber around their bedroom. I am not one of those people who goes to conventions because I know there is a place to draw the line. But who is to say where the line is... is this it?? / or is this it?? - Well I am rambling again, and again I must say goddamn Hunter S. Thompsons novels for making me think like such a starnge fool.

I may be silly, but once I've seen a movie, I only hold my own of said movie close to my heart, but if you want to mesh your opinions with that of someone else's, that's cool. You should also know that you really like GIGLI and whoppers candy.

You can pretend that means something else but it only means that his opinion is worth more to me than yours, at least with respect to "Clones".

I don't mind Lynchie hating the prequels, it's just knowing that he'll see Episode III just to bitch about it, regardless of how good or bad it is in comparison to the others (this of course goes for a large portion of the movie's grosses).
At the same time, Episode 1 took everything I hated about Return of the Jedi, wrapped razor wire around it and shoved it up my ass, so I can't whole heartedly agree with Kevin's optimistic evaluation.
Still, I don't know what sort of emotional pathos people were expecting from a star wars movie, I went to see special effects and sweet fight sequences unfettered by gungans and spy kids-style antics and left pleased.

I think I posted something about it earlier, but to recap...Some parts are good, some parts will make you cringe, some parts are just hysterically funny (in a good way). Of course this is really just my opinion, and I know that what I find to be funny, others may not, in spite of the fact that people were laughing along with me in the theater. It's not something I'd necessarily watch again, but to quote a very wise man, "It's not the abortion everyone in the press says it is".

It's very cool you're telling me WHY I want to see a movie, thanks. I went to see EPISODE I thinking I'd enjoy it...but I didn't. I wanted to like part two, but I thought it was even worse than part one...that said, I've seen the five other chapters, so I'll see EPISODE III and hope it's good. But it would appear that no matter what they toss on the screen, some people will lap it up and bronze it because it has the STAR WARS name, and that sucks.

On the Phantom Edit DVD, there are two deleted scenes that were re-edited.
One is the scene where anakin and Greedo are fighting. Qui Gon breaks it up and Greedo's dad says something to him. The phantom changed the subtitles so now it says "Now, Greedo, everyone knows it's never a good idea to attack first." I may have remember the wording wrong, but that was basically it.

The other deleted scene is from the deleted scenes on Phantom Menace. The ship comes out of the water and Qui Gon and Obi Wan leap in the water. Jar Jar hesitates and then jumps in the water. The ships goes over the waterfall.
The phantom reedited it so the ship comes out of the water and Qui Gon and Obi Wan leap in the water. Jar Jar hesitates and then falls back into the ship as goes over the waterfall. The phantom even added a scream as it falls before splattering on the rocks below. The clip is entitled "Dream Sequence"

So true. I suppose all the fans of the LOTR movies would be considered big geeks in a few years, if it weren't for the fact that the movies are based on well respected literature.
The real reason I always think of SW knowledge as geeky is because of the hilarious Triumph the Insult Comic Dog segment that was done with people waiting in line to see AOTC.
Triumph: So, are you guys into spoilers?

DarthMaulRat
08-10-2003, 01:46 AM
No, I was actually unaware for the longest time. I saw EP1 in theatres about 20 times and didn't consider myself a geek. I would begin reciting along with the TV in the next room for 15 minutes before I realized Star Wars was on, and I thought I was normal. I drove 5 hours to see EP2 on IMAX and thought nothing of it. It wasn't until I was pulled over at 3am that night (I was swerving slightly from fatigue) and I had a little conversation like so:
Officer: So, where have you boys been tonight?
Me: Washington D.C.
Officer: Really? What's in Washington D.C.?
Me: ...Star Wars: Episode II on IMAX.
It was then that I realized that I was the most die hard Star Wars geek I knew. I was never a nerd or collected the toys or anything, but there's this mass of movie information in my head that totally doesn't fit my lifestyle, and I'm happy because of that.
That was my "geek-piphany"

I was in denial for the longest time about being a geek, but now I just accept it. There are much worse things than being a geek.
Speaking of geek fun..I heard the funniest question at a Lord of the Rings panel that make me crack up...
"Is it true the third installment was actually named Revenge of the King and then they changed it to Return of the King?"
Thought you guys would appreciate that...
DarthMaulRat
08-12-2003, 02:37 AM
I agree, the IMAX cut was much better. It had more momentum and less frilly dialogue. But did you notice how Anakin's step father is never introduced and when he talks to Anakin he seems like a complete stranger? His only line was the "Let her go" line, and it seemed like he was some creepy neighbor that liked to get in other people's business.
I'd really like to see a LOTR IMAX, because the camera "floats" alot more in those movies. The flybys would make great use of the momentum illusion that the screen creates. Then again, it would be impossible to
edit those movies for time.
ALSO:
My 5 hour drive would've been 2 1/2 but the day I chose to see EP2 on IMAX was the day the theater in NYC decided to start showing the Lion King. So I had to make a last minute arrangement to go to the Museum of Natural History in DC.
