I’m boycotting Blu-Ray.
I was the perfect age to jump on the upgrade to DVD(27 now), and started collecting DVD’s. Have 574 titles now.
With all the confusion over the past few decades over BetaMax, VHS, LaserDisk, DVD, HD-DVD, Blu-Ray, miniDVD, and formats for download and computer use, I am tired of it all. I’m sticking with DVD.
The fact that I can’t afford a Blu-ray and HDTV helps maintain the ignorance.

theres the well know catholic saying “in god we trust” well i think to many of your fans its said slightly different.

For those who say they cannot download the Smod, the latest release of Firefox, 3.5.4, doesn’t work with the RealPlayer plug-in (and Firefox’s position at the moment is “RealPlayer has to fix it). Anyway, it still works through IE or Google Chrome. Hope this might help.

hey guys, just wanted to say thanks for smodcast, it’s helped me in more ways that you might think.
for the past few years i’ve developed debilitating agoraphobia, left hardly able to step out of me house. Last week I needed to take an hour long road trip for work, and was paralyzed with fear. as i got in the car, my ipod jumped to an episode of smodcast (perhaps ironically “the talking cure”) and i got so lost in the conversation you and mos were having, i forgot to get nervous about traveling.

I’m just pleased as punch that Joey finally sat down to do a Smod w/ the boys.
Although, I can’t help but question the logic in using that smod as an advertising gimmick. That is to say, I believe it would have been better served if left unnumbered. Y’all could have called it “Smecret Cast” or “Smod Secret” and taped it to a package of instant popcorn. Might-could’ve been a lot more buzz.
As is, you’ve tipped ppl off and now they’ll be looking to get a copy w/out having to purchase said blu-ray.
I too am holding off on my blu-ray purchases. Pretty soon all media will be accessibly via the web. Tax dollars will provide for every persons access to the web. Same as the roads, street lights and libraries. Besides, having to keep track of dozens (if not hundreds) of discs is a pain for which people have increasingly less tolerance.
BTW Chasing Amy is my favorite film of your Kev & Scott - so I’ll probably being purchasing that blu-ray release, like the fanboy I am.

I’m still hoping one day to have a car with ABS or maybe a CD player (finally got one w/ airbags and can still play cassette tapes, whoo hoo!), I still have VCRs connected to at least 2 of my tvs (the largest of which is 19″ and is made with a big ol’ tube, no flat panel here). Odds of me buying a bluray disc are slim to none, seeing as how I have nothing to watch them on. Hope someone helps out the tech-poor fans.
Of course, if someone wants to fund a tech buying spree for me, you know just to catch me up with the rest of the world or something, I won’t stop them or anything. (What, no takers? Darn.)

97 is only available on some blu ray disc? That’s bullshit. Why not just call it an exclusive Smodcast. Mind you, it brings the smods back in line with how many are actually on itunes because they split 68 into two parts.

If memory serves, which it seldom does, there was supposed to be a downloadable audio commentary released when clerks2 was in theaters for hard core fans to listen to if they went second or third times to see the movie. Here is a direct quote from my source, and a link.
“It apparently was the grousing of exhibitors that soured the deal. Theatre owners felt that allowing some viewers to bring in outside devices (especially given that you’re expressly reminded to turn all such devices off before the movie starts) and allowing them to listen to a commentary that might have them laughing at otherwise silent parts of the movie might prove distracting to other viewers. So they balked and said, essentially, no dice. There was some hope that the track might be made available towards the end of the film’s run but we’re nearing the end of the run as is and it doesn’t look like it’ll make it out in time. It’s disappointing news not only that this commentary track didn’t make it out for CLERKS 2 but that theatre owners have put the kibosh on the idea as a whole.
Extra Tidbit: According to Kevin Smith, AMC Theatres was the only chain that supported the idea. So give your business to AMC!”
I hate it that a wrench was thrown in the works, but in a way it makes sense. I absolutely HATE people with cellphones in theaters, and we all know that this would give dumbasses the perfect excuse for phones ringing and conversations being held.
Still, I wouldnt mind being able to download them later on.
As for the Zack and Miri commentary, I wouldn’t expect that any time soon. They made it pretty clear in the “talking cure” SMods that they couldn’t do one without trashtalking the people who screwed them over dealing with the theatrical release.
I enjoy ViewAskew commentaries and wish there were more of them.

No 97? I thought Zune fucked up, so I checked this site. Sure enough it wasn’t a glitch. SModcast is free right? So why must we pay full price for a Blu-Ray to hear SMod 97? I’m never going to hear it that way! I just bought all the Kev Smith movies on DVD! I bought Mallrats on DVD just last week! I was watching copies I made from a friends collection… I just spent like $200 buying all the DVD movies and 3 Q&A DVDs already. So that means in order to hear it, I have to spend $200 on a Blu-Ray player and the street price of that Blu-Ray disc?
I don’t care if it’s a commentary, after the Blu-Ray disc hits the street, just post #97. I’m sure half of the people on here would listen to it as is.

I don’t mind that SMod97’s on a blu-ray disc. Whether or not I buy it I don’t know. But, I will say that we’ve had 97 SModcasts so far, for free, and if there’s people on here whining because they wont get to hear it because they think the SMod crew are ’selling out’ or making money off their backs or some such shit…well, they’re taking themselves waaaay to seriously. Roll on Smod99 gents. Fuck the nay-sayers and let’s all just move on.

I don’t really understand why people care that they will have to essentially pay for this smodcast, we have recieved many hours of entertainment for free and will hopefully continue to recieve many hours of free entertainment so missing one is not a bad deal.
Also I am pretty sure that smodcast 97 is screen specific to chasing amy so if you were to rip it off the disc it would not make much sense.

And, there wouldn’t be a show, because once that small list of guests got old, he would find it hard to get people to come on the show. When you listen to this show in comparison to some of the others on the web, it should be obvious why.

just heard/watched smodcast 97 last night. it’s good, but everyone’s right, it wouldn’t work just audio alone. it’s essentially a commentary track, only difference is they say welcome to smodcast at the beginning. that being said, it’s still pretty good, a lot of stuff about the movie i didn’t know, and a lot of kevin waxing nostalgic about his friends and relationship with joey adams in the late 90’s. and a lot of riffing on the possibility of redoing chasing amy, same movie but with the directing skills kevin has now, called “ass is pussy.”

The Edmonton show was AMAZING!
I asked Kev about Smodcast, and if he and Mos’ will still be doing it in their 60’s and shit, and he said that it’s definitely a long term fixture in his life and barring anything horrible happening, it’ll continue indefinitely.
So all you folks whining about gaps here and there take some comfort in knowing that SMod will be around for a looooong time!

I asked kevin at the edmonton Q&A if Smodcast will end, he said its a longterm, lifelong project for him. He’s been quoted as saying that Smodcast is his favorite thing to do. He said short of him and scott having a falling out, or one of them dying, smodcast will continue for as long as it can.
With this in mind, it makes it so much easier to accept the long gaps inbetween episodes.

Watched the Funny People commentary last night. Apatow, Rogen, and Sandler shooting the shit over a movie. Good stuff. Worth the cost.
Just picked up season4 of Weeds too. Gonna start that today after watching the last couple episodes from season3 to refresh my memory. I watched seasons 1-3 this time last year. Got a fresh half of tobacco alternative last night, so today should be a good one. My Falcons play Tampa Bay today, so that’s even better…division rivalry and all.
Also got some standup dvd’s by Nick Swardson and Bill Burr.
Also, Four Christmases.
I probably shouldnt be allowed in BestBuy the day after thanksgiving.
I went hoping to get seasons 1,2,7,8,11,and 12 of South Park for cheap cheap, but they weren’t on sale. Weeds was 10 bucks though. Along with other series’ too.

yeah, what was with bestbuy? The last couple years they’ve had 50 percent off HBO shows. I was expecting to get the entire series of the wire for cheap, I mean it was normally like 170 so I figured under 100 was great value. It luckily was one of the shows that was still on sale, but for 130. Kinda bummed about that.

kev really shouldnt of called the chasing amy commentary a SMod, its just caused way too much trouble, and yeh thats what SMod 97 is, a commentary. itll be like listening to the SMart SMod, it doesnt make much sense unless you have what theyre talking about in front of you

I gotta go with the Johnson/Flanagan era. I defy anyone to find a better 3-peat than Frosh Meat-The Clone War-Bridge Beach!. There are some classic moments in those three shows.

Is the Wire really that expensive over there? Here in australia the seasons are regularly on sale for about $25 sometimes cheaper which is about $22 USD. Even not on sale they are only $43.

Here in Canada we make criminals and terrorist suspects watch the Wire as an interrogation technique. After just 20 minutes all are reduced to a gooey puddle of cooperation. So be good for goodness sake or you will be made to watch the wire which is pure mental torture!

hey guys, i started with #1 a few weeks ago and now im all caught up. ive always been a huge fan of the movies and happened onto this site by fluke, and im glad i did. i havent heard anything so downright entertaining in yrs, pretty odd feeling to sit on my couch alone laughing my ass off. i hope u guys can keep it up for a long time. as well i hope u can keep all the guys, and girl popping in steady they all add alot to the show even though kev n mos do a fine job on their own. ur live shows are the absolute best but i laugh either way. thanks
