It’s odd that Mr. Smith thinks he landed his dream job becuase of his “talent”. Mentioning only someone like he can do it, I would say that it was more because of the time of Hollywood that let him reach the success level he is at today. Less competition and a wider open door allowed someone like Smith into the industry and people deserving a chance today with a lot of talent cannot get in becuase of the mouse hole opening that is left for this generation of film makers. Mr. Smith is right in one regard, luck had a lot to do with his success.

Jerry, the man watched Slacker and said “Wow a dialogue heavy script and the movie is fantastic. I can do that!” So he did it. Clerks look s a whole lot worse than a lot of other movies that came out that same year, there’s no luck there, dickhead. It was picked up solely based on it’s heart and intentions. That IS talent. Kevin wrote an amazing script that, if not pioneer, revitalized angsty dialogue-laden 90’s pulp restlessness. It sounds like, to me, that you’ve got a big ass chip on your shoulder and lost the ability to see the innocence in a lot of things. Clerks is genius. Nobody lucks out on a film that was made for 28,000 dollars about a bunch of convenience stop cashiers. It takes TALENT to make that work. Fuck off.

There is always luck involved, but clerks is still an amazing flick. But I feel it’s profanity-laced humor pushing the envelope at the time is what propelled it to great success and not it’s “heart”.
El Mariachi, Clerks and Slacker. Plenty of talent and hard work behind those flicks but they just happened at the right time. Timing was good.
I’ve seen a bunch of low budget independent flicks that are awesome but never got exposed the way those flicks did.

Would of been a great video podcast. Describing fan art in an audio only format is not that riveting. I hate to complain considering Smodcast is free and it is one of the only three podcast I listen to regularly.
I would love for Kevin to go on Adam Carolla’s podcast because he was freakin’ awesome on Loveline.

Mr.Smith! first i’d like to say thnx for the podcast as well as the visit to Vancouver (again, as if i haven’t said thnx enough…i think now would be the end of that).
anyway to get to my topic and i hope you guys read this.
i just rented out the new Ghostbusters video game for my XBOX360…and the game REALLY captures the essence of the movie. i just love Ghostbusters and as old as the movie is, always gets a chuckle out of me.
in new related news, Harold Ramis aka Egon Spengler announced a Ghostbusters 3 in the works!
when i get into the fiction of a movie, i become this nerd just searching how factual can the fiction be (can someone invent a lightsaber, do proton packs exist, etc.) and if you remember that in Ghostbusters, they keep referring back to this text titled “Tobin’s Spirit Guide”. so i wondered, was there an author out there who was such a die hard fan who could’ve wrote a humor based book (aka the Zombie Survival Guide) or a collection of paranormal facts?
what i’ve found was a more interesting read than i thought. there’s a website with that title. suddenly i remembered the one smodcast involving strange animal experiments (Ruskies!) i thought maybe if you guys could do a smodcast about crazy demonology and other mythos and creating a silly “what if” about it like the new year’s episode with Mosier ol timey boxing with Jesus haha.
or get scared shitless, whatever. it talks a great deal on ghosts, newly discovered pyramids, mythical creatures, witchcraft, it just goes on and on.

The Adam Carolla Podcast definitely fills in the gaps. Intelligent folks may also want to try The Skeptics Guide to the Universe. Old Ricky Gervais Podcasts and Audiobooks are also always good for a laugh. That Karl Pilkington, with a head like a fucking orange!
I’m very skeptical about the idea of us getting a SModcast with Jason Lee talking about any supposed barfight. If he couldnt get Affleck to come on, what are the odds of him getting Lee? The fact is that most of these celebs he knows who are in the “public spotlight” won’t or aren’t allowed by their publicists to go sit in a room with a high director and talk about bullshit for an hour. No positive revenue stream from it, plus you don’t necessarily want to associate your client with “drugs”. Sucks for us dedicated consumers.
Luckily, the Podosphere isn’t exactly short of quality enjoyable and sometimes even informative podcasts.

I’m so bummed there’s no SMod again this week. Booo. I know it’s free, but if you call it a weekly cast it should be just that. One missed week here and there…no big deal, but more than that makes it feel undependable.

Kevin is a busy guy, anyone that listens to the Smods or who is familiar with the wide variety of projects (Films, Comics, Q & A Live Shows, SMods, merch, Comic-Cons ViewAskiew, Books, Twitter etc.) can see that, but I still expect a Smod every week or two….and I think it’s ok if I let Kevin and his friends know that as a fan, I’m bummed there’s no Smod again this week.
On a related note, anyone know what happened to Mewescast? Jay made three podcasts then bailed….it’s been months since his last podcast.

I have an idea! People are always asking which SModcast certain ideas or elements came from - why don’t we start a webpage or a wiki or something? It could be set up so the SMods are categorized, and maybe even transcribed by some brave individuals, so one can search and find which episode they’re looking for.

I’m thankful for the other podcast ideas. honestly, I didn’t listen to podcasts before SmodCast, but when I found Smod, I started enjoying the process. now I regularly listen to like 7 or 8 and it is a bigger part of my entertainment staple than TV or radio.
I’ve found a couple just by coming here on Sunday, seeing no Smod, but taking someone’s advice and trying a new one. Its cool to get here on a Sunday night and find SOMETHING I can listen to.
(And generally, people wait a while after a new Smod befor emeking suggesitons, which is polite, I think)

I am totally with most other people in that I love, and I mean fucking love SModcast, I’ve been a listener since day one, but its just a little bit annoying when theres this gap between the episodes without any explanation. I know the guys shooting a film and I hope it does phenomenally well but all someone’s got to do is just give a timeframe about how long its going to be until a new episode instead of what happened last year when there was a 3 month break and absolute silence (fair enough again they were shooting a movie, it obviously takes priority and all your time.)
No offence to any of the Mosier replacements but its worth the wait because the fact is they are the most engaging, funny individuals I’ve ever heard and the chemistry between Mosier and Kev is what makes the show so fingers crossed they’ll be back sooner rather than later!!!

It would be REALLY weird for him to do one with Willis and/or Morgan, but the odds of that happening are about the same as the odds of me taking a shot in the mouth.
Well, maybe not. That SMod would NEVER happen, whereas it’s at least possible that I would take one in the mouth in the right situation. You know, like if someone had a gun to my head, or if someone asked really really nicely.
Anyway, fear not my fellow SMinions. There will be new SMod eventually. Until then, as I stated before, just go listen to the Adam Carolla Podcast. It’s a pretty damn good substitute, with guests like David Cross, Francis Ford Coppola, Jeff Garlin, Seth McFarlane, Michael Ian Black, Jimmy Kimmel, Andy Dick, and Dr. Drew, just to name a few.
And if you’re one of the pricks that keeps on saying not to advertise for other podcasts, FUCK YOU! We live in an age where people need their podcasts. Besides, like I stated before, Kev doenst make money from this, so it’s not like I’m costing him anything. If anything, it helps by keeping a few people off his back. Adam doesnt get paid to do his either. In fact, the bandwidth costs him about 3grand a month. Fuck all you haters.

Seriously…some of us do amateur podcasts (and it sucks ass)…and some of us are working on indie movies (shitty horror flicks)…and some of us have an underground band that we have to rehearse with (trying not to suck donkey dick)…but we still find time to take our fucked up cheap Alesis iMultiMix8 ipod mixer to Hooters and record a quick, unfunny 75 minute podcast. If we can find the time…why can’t Kevin and Mos? They just bullshit for an hour like we all do anyway…granted they are alot funnier…just not waiting-over-a-month-or-so funny…

@Alex - I don’t think it’s the same. I don’t think ZAMMAP could have been called anything else. I think Kevin is right that people should know it’s a romantic comedy about making a porno. It sets expectations. I think ZAMMAP just wasn’t a good choice for a halloween weekend release. “A Couple of Dicks” is just mildly offensive, since “dicks” can be lots of things. So, it depends how you read it. If you think it’s dirty, maybe that’s because you have dirty thoughts… In any case, it’s a Bruce Willis flix, so it’s name is a moot point, could call it “Monkey Balls” and it’d make money…

Noticed people talking about other podcasts, I would like to suggest “Stop podcasting yourself”. It is a weekly podcast, not as funny as smodcast but still really good. The Adam Carolla podcast is also really good, they have podcasts up every week day.

I didn’t want to be the one to say it, but this SModfast doesn’t really bother me. Since Kev rediscovered weed I find the shows to be less and less entertaining. Probably because I don’t smoke anymore. The hypothetical situations just don’t grab me like they use to. I’m sure they would be hilarious if I were stoned. I can’t knock it though. If it works for him and improves his quality of life, more power to him. I pretty much just listen now as a filler between his Q&A’s and “Evening With”’s.
I’ll state it again.

If you wanna complain about anything, complain about the lack of a Q&A DVD since “Sold Out”, the lack of the extended directors cut of Jersey girl that he promised on the commentary of that movie, and the complete lack of a commentary, even a downloadable commentary, for ZAMMAP. I know, I know, he doesnt want to trash the people he feels are responsible for the box office failure, but fuck that shit. Be a goddamn man and give the people what they want, whether it be an hour of you and Mosier waxing hypothetical in a haze of weed, or a simple commentary to what was in my own opinion one of the funniest films of 2008. I’m gonna stop this rant now before I get pissed. All you assholes need to stop whining about not getting your *FREE* podcast. It’s a big world out there. Take a walk and smell some new flowers. Jon: A MMJ card might protect him at the State level, but I doubt it. There’s plenty of times where his use of MMJ would be clearly questionable. And a MMJ card means dick to the FEDs, so don’t kid yourself. If some self-rightous prosecutor maybe pissed off at Dogma, uses the MJ as a way to get at Kevin… could happen. But I’m high too, so maybe I’m paranoid… but why take chances? That’s all I’m saying…

Hate to say it, but the longer they go between Smodcasts, the less I care. You find other ways to feel the entertainment hours in your day and where you used to check back here daily for a new SMod you begin to check weekly then hardly ever at all.

just downloaded all the smodcasts onto my brand new ipod :), and I just reminded me of why I love KS films, i’ve watched all his films and got all his live/speaks dvds, and he is so easy to connect with, and its not hard to see why his fans are so loyal to him. im so loyal im going to NJ in November from the UK by myself so I can see the Stash (by the its not the only reason), but just love SModcasts and everyone on it Malcolm, Walt, Brian and Scott(who I think must have a Movie in him…somewhere) just thought i’d say how much of a fan I am love your work. yeah listening to old smods can be the way to go, some of the oldies I feel are so much better than the new ones. Sadly it felt as if they were just hitting their stride again prior to the break. Why don’t you create your own fucking podcast to listen to while there is a Smodfast. hell you can even call it “Smodfast: A podcast to listen to while Kev and Scott doing important shit”. That way instead of having to read your lame comments we can listen to a few new casts to keep us busy. if enough people do it there might be a few good ones. Also you’ll only have to do it once in a while.

First- To ChairmanMal, the idea sounds good in theory, but the problem is with the people who populate such a site. Karl Pilkington, of Ricky Gervais fame, had a site dedicated to anything and everything Pilkington related. It’s pilkipedia.com I believe. Now, the site on it’s own is great. All the info you could never need to know. The problem is the forum on said site. It is occupied by a litany of snotty little English shits(and a small handful of people of other nationalities) who apparently built the site and therefor have a God complex about their pathetic amount of power. They police the threads. They have a “Rules” page that basically brags about how free form everything is and they don’t censor much, but all they really want to do is build a nerd colony and faun over the occasional teenage girl that wanders in. It’s quite sad really. There are one of two people over there that are worth talking to, but not enough to lift the stain of douchery.
Second- To everyone talking about Adam Carolla’s Podcast, thank you. All he wants right now is for us to spread the word about the show, and this is a good way to do it. I really think that as Kev gets more into mainstream movies we will see alot more of these smodfasts. Adam’s Podcast is the wave of the future. Things I like the most about it are the constantly changing guestlist, the dependability(so far), the stories from guests of how their career started and the journey they took to get where they are now, constant references to donnie jerking off in Adam’s garage, and that fact that right now Adam is paying about 10 grand a month to do that show. He cant make money from the show becase of his contract with CBS through the end of the year, but he believes in the show so much he is paying a shitload of out of pocket money to keep it going. His new Carcast is really good too, but im not much of a gearhead.
I also really like his rants about everything under the sun.

Not to mention the ones with his childhood friends. I was so happy to hear he started podcasting, I was a huge loveline fan but was never up or was in school during his morning radio show.
As for brad, yeah it’s like people forget why they started likeing Kevin in the first place. I know for me personally it was his movies, the Smod was just an awesome sideline event. Now with the realization that other good podcasts can fill the void I personally am all for giving him a couple month break, complaint free, so that he can keep doing what all of us really want to see from him.
