SModcast 76
SModcast is the meandering palaver of a pair of dudes whose voices are so dull, they don’t deserve to be on the radio (and, hence, aren’t). Kevin Smith and Scott Mosier are SModcast. The best thing about SModcast? It don’t cost nothing.

SModcast 76: The Great One -
In which a hero returns from the wild, another hero is discovered, and yet another hero can’t stop bawling.
[CONTENT WARNING] SModcast features harsh language and even harsher notions of propriety. Listener discretion is advised.

February 17th, 2009 at 2:24 am
Kev,
Sorry I missed the Toronto Q and A,
Read Wayne’s autobiography…very terrific. There is also a great book about his Dad’s stroke recovery–his entire memory of the 80s had been wiped out.
February 17th, 2009 at 2:34 am
it’s only 2 hours on my itunes hmmmm

February 17th, 2009 at 3:22 am
is it just scott and kevin?
February 17th, 2009 at 4:56 am
Awesome, now if only Smodcast could help me get inspired for my lame ass english paper
February 17th, 2009 at 5:20 am
That was the best smodcast they’ve done. Hearing about Scott’s trip was awesome and then Kevin talking about Wayne Gretzkey - so good. I love how the Gretzkey story just put them in this reflective mood and we got to really hear them talk about things and look back on their careers and recognize the growth. You could almost sense that despite Kevin’s self-depricating humour, they’ve grown as film makers and it’s time to step outside of boundaries that they’ve placed on themselves. I can’t wait for Kevin’s Q&A in Vancouver in March.
February 17th, 2009 at 5:26 am
New Smod! Time to smoke..
February 17th, 2009 at 5:41 am
Thanks, you made my day.
Btw, Malcolm is a great guest, I just love his confidence in everything.
Dude, if you are reading this then thumbs up
February 17th, 2009 at 6:13 am
Almost felt myself tear up during this. This has beenone of the most enlightening things I’ve ever listened to. Thank you Mister Mosier and Mister Smith.
February 17th, 2009 at 6:58 am
can somebody who’s already downloaded the show upload it onto megaupload or something? it’s going painfully slow, and it’s a big file this week.
February 17th, 2009 at 6:59 am
Now that was an interesting Smodcast. As always, thanks for staying there and doing it as always. Mosier completes and balances Kev just perfectly. They should really fuck each other, would be enlighting.
Some time ago, when I heard about closing Askewniverse, I felt kinda sad about not going to watch Jay and Silent Bob anylonger; but somehow I feel that Kevin and its audience grew up together, and thatīs beautiful. About criticism in movies, I agree most of whatīs said in the Smodcast. Nowadays, when I watch a movie, I just judge it if accomplishes somehow what itīs looking for. For example, I think Godzilla movies are just perfect.
For all the people coming around and reading this, Iīd like to invite you all to my blog, itīs basically my illustrations, comics, animations.

A new SMod?
Thank goodness!
February 17th, 2009 at 11:07 am
Great smod!! Was at the Friday Q and A, loved it, but you should have kicked that girl off the stage earlier… that and you missed the messed up question from some dick (when you went to change). BTW the king of Kensington IS IN Toronto, it took place in Kensington Market (by Spadina).
February 17th, 2009 at 11:11 am
SCHECKY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Another great SMod, instant classic…
February 17th, 2009 at 11:18 am
Best smodcast in ages. Kev, you should do the bio pic on Wayne Gretzky.
February 17th, 2009 at 12:07 pm
SMod has returned. I knew this would be a good week. As I have not listened yet (to be remedied in a few minutes) I propose some questions:
1) Will Kevin be high for this one?
2) Will Shekki (sp) the yapping dog be vocal on this one?
3) Will this be the triumphant return of Moiser?
4) Will Kevin and his co-host be so awesome that it will leave us salivating for more?
5) Lastly, will Jen never listen to this episode?
Answer is…probably so.
February 17th, 2009 at 1:41 pm
No lie Kevin. I got that quote from Gretzkey on a fortune cookie. And it gave me the courage to ask out this girl and she said yes. GRETZKEY is GOD!!! You really seem to have a passion for hockey Kevin, maybe you should make a film about it.
Just an idea.
Great to have you back Mosier. This was probably one of the best SMod’s you guys have had.
February 17th, 2009 at 2:37 pm
Can’t wait for ZAMMAP to come out on VOD
February 17th, 2009 at 3:36 pm
I wonder if ever heard the interview where Gretzky called the Devils a “Mickey Mouse organization” lol.
February 17th, 2009 at 3:37 pm
I wonder if Kevin ever heard the interview where Gretzky called the Devils a “Mickey Mouse organization” lol.
February 17th, 2009 at 4:37 pm
One of the best SMods to date. Thanks a lot guys.
February 17th, 2009 at 4:46 pm
How awesome would it be if by some strange series of events Gretzky co-hosted a smod? Just an hour of him sitting there awkwardly while Kev sobs. Good to hear Mosier back safe and sound where he should be. Loved the smod.
February 17th, 2009 at 6:10 pm
I love Scott Mosier, Malcolm is cool and all. But Mos is so awesome, the Smod has just started and I felt compelled to say something. It could be courage but more likely the jack Daniels thats making me post.
February 17th, 2009 at 6:15 pm
End of the SCOTT-FAST!!!!!!!!!!
February 17th, 2009 at 7:24 pm
Love the hockey talk, hockey’s pretty much what I’m all about, I know Smith likes hockey, but I didn’t know he could gab about it like this.
I’d ask for more hockey talk, but I don’t think that’s what the listeners want. If it is what the listeners want, speak up, yo.
February 17th, 2009 at 7:28 pm
Mosier 100 dicks in 3 days….well played sir
February 17th, 2009 at 7:34 pm
Kevin went off the deep end… into a frozen rink.
February 17th, 2009 at 7:57 pm
F=*king A people A new SMOD and the mighty mosier is back from his “trip” to Vietnam. Is it me or with all his globtrotting do ya reckon he is really a spy for the canadian govt who has been under deep cover for the last 20 years and his producing career is just a cover for the kanuck version of james bond lol. can’t wait to listen while im supposed to be working.
February 17th, 2009 at 8:03 pm
F*$#ing A people, new smod and the mighty mosier is back where he does his best work. can’t wait to listen istead of working.
February 17th, 2009 at 8:26 pm
wow, sometimes i don’t know about Kev. his ignorance is glaring when it comes to the world outside of the United States.
February 17th, 2009 at 8:47 pm
new smod and extra long time with the boys….wicked
February 17th, 2009 at 8:51 pm
Thanks!
February 17th, 2009 at 10:03 pm
I love it when Mosier busts out a fake accent!! Glad to have you back!
February 17th, 2009 at 10:21 pm
awesome AND inspiring (the great one) though the little girl with an owl is a classic image.
Thank you for inspiring me to seek out some Gretzky dvd’z!
one thought- get the great one on a future smodcast, whether you are emotional or not- who cares, keep it real brother.
thanx for the BB theme music during the beginning of this smodcast!!!!
February 17th, 2009 at 11:05 pm
A true return to form. Not to say the other guests aren’t enjoyable, but the way The Mos and Kev play off each other. Very, very solid episode. I’d love to see more Walt and Brian as well. Those fuckers are silly.
February 17th, 2009 at 11:27 pm
NEEEEWWWWWWWW SMODDDDDDDDDD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
February 18th, 2009 at 12:26 am
Great Smod. More of this and less of Mr. Hands.
February 18th, 2009 at 12:29 am
After hearing Scott’s account of his trip and Kevin’s reaction to it, I’d have to say that those two should hit the road ala Anthony Bourdaine and produce their own travel show.
I think it would be fantastic.
February 18th, 2009 at 12:44 am
This was the best Smodcast yet. maybe it wasn’t as funny as the time they ran down the worlds most fucked up experiments, but it was real in way that most “celebrities” never are with their fans.
I just wanted to say that when Kev talked about people’s reaction to the Gretzky trade, all I could think was that to Canadians it is like our JFK moment, everybody remembers where they were when they heard the news. I was in a hotel room in Montreal.
February 18th, 2009 at 5:17 am
Agh, so glad! Thought we’d go another week without SMod. Nice to hear Scott again, though I loved the Malcolm ones. Good hockey talk too. Not really current at all, but that’s alright. It’s SMod, not a sports show. Besides, my teams ain’t so hot this year so it’s good to pretend the present doesn’t exist.
February 18th, 2009 at 6:30 am
too far dude … you went too far :)) …
greetings from Romania btw …. bet you don’t get many listeners from down here huh ? But if you do let me know cuz I can’t find any
February 18th, 2009 at 10:17 am
What a great episode. A return the form, indeed. Scott, glad you’re back.
“Balance It Out For Me. Show Me A Surfing Squirrel, Please. Tell Me It’s Not All Horrible. Tell Me Sometimes It’s Surfing Squirrels.” <— KILLED ME!
February 18th, 2009 at 11:00 am
Kevin,
Let me first assure you that your best work is not behind you. You still have so much heart. You just need to tell the stories that move you.
In all seriousness, why not tell a Gretsky story. I think you’d knock the world on its ass.
February 18th, 2009 at 12:44 pm
James
I agree, Kevin is a born story-teller. You can cleary hear that in the way he relates those tales of Wayne growing up and how his father influenced him.
I have never watched a single hockey game in my life, but I would watch a Gretzky bio pic if Kevin made one…and not because he’s Kevin Smith, but because he talked of Wayne with passion and when a person creates something with passion it’s full of truth.
My one and only exposure to the world of hockey and Wayne Gretzky came many years ago when I saw him on SNL.
Wayne Gretzky in Waikiki Hockey.
Enjoy
February 18th, 2009 at 12:45 pm
i have been waiting for way to long for mos’ triumphant return. all the rest are alright but the show just isnt the same without him
February 18th, 2009 at 1:00 pm
Sorry about that folks, didn’t realize the link I had posted was only part one, here is Wayne Gretzky in Waikiki Hockey Part 2
February 18th, 2009 at 1:56 pm
JAY AND SILENT BOB WILL RETURN IN CLERKS ON ICE
February 18th, 2009 at 6:11 pm
Early this hockey season, I watched a PHX @ EDM game. A woman was there to watch the OILERS play for her 99th birthday, and her wish was to meet Wayne Gretzky. Low and behold, they took here down to the locker-room area and Gretz stopped whatever he was doing to go meet with this Oilers fan.
It wasn’t like he said hello and goodbye in some quick passing. He came out and took the time to actually get to know this woman. It probably didn’t last much longer than 5 to 10 minutes, but you know it meant the world to her (I never did catch her name).
You’re right, what a beautiful human being. I immediately went about telling my Father this simple story. You could tell that he was impressed.
That’s my latest Wayne Gretzky story. It’s a simple one. If you didn’t know about it before, well . . . now you know.
Welcome back, Mos. It’s great to know you have recovered from your illness.
February 18th, 2009 at 6:20 pm
Now Kevin should watch that old made for T.V. movie about Terry Fox and blubber a river. You’d think that a midlife “crisis” would encourage healthy behavior. But instead, Kevin flies a perverted Canadian flag where the maple leaf has been transformed into a cannabis leaf on the hood of the Batmobile as he glides into a Joel Shumakeresque hockey rink of frozen tears, accepting of shitty movies and worshiping a cross fashioned from (Bruce?) Wayne Gretzky’s hockey sticks.
February 18th, 2009 at 6:33 pm
Best SModcast, yet. Listening to his Gretzky story the first time at the Q&A in Toronto was awesome, but listening to it again and having Mosier on the side just made it so much more enjoyable.
You guys need a room. Kevin yelling at Shekki scared the fuck out of me.
February 18th, 2009 at 9:00 pm
Loved the Smodcast- I’m really interested in seeing what Kevin’s going to do next. Maybe a Gretzky bio wouldn’t be a bad idea ( but I’d really like to see “Red State”!)
Welcome back Scott!
February 18th, 2009 at 10:47 pm
I’d smoke Nails cigarettes.
Just throwing that out there.
February 19th, 2009 at 1:09 am
I agree a travel show with Scott and Kev would be awesome. The way Kevin said he gets no feeling for football stories, I get no feeling for hockey stories. I mean I’m a much bigger sports fan than Kev is, and I’m sure I waste a lot more time watching it than he does, but come one Gretzky just plays sports. I was kind of offended when they were saying he’s better than Christ. I mean come on Gretzky famous for play a damn game, its something that has no affect on real life. Real heroes are Ghandi, Levi Coffin, MLK, people that made a real difference. That’s cool that Gretzky is a role model for Kev, but comparing him to Christ was offensive IMO.
February 19th, 2009 at 1:37 am
The Gretzky worship is a little strange.
February 19th, 2009 at 4:17 am
Gretzky? You think he overcame adversity? Look into Mario Lemieux. The dude had pinched nerves at a young age, forcing him to miss tons of games, and had freaking hotchkins lymphoma. He was forced to retire for a few years, came back at an old age after missing the prime of his career, and was still the best freaking player in the NHL.
February 19th, 2009 at 5:03 am
MAtt B. ..I find Christ offensive.
Get over it.
February 19th, 2009 at 8:23 am
I just finished watching The Boys On The Bus. Pure poetry. FUCK CALGARY!!
Also, it’s interesting that Kev compares Gretzky and Jesus - as the Stanley Cup is Holy Grail of sports. And seeing how nobody has ever actually seen the grail, The Cup is sorta like “the real” Grail.
Sharks are gonna whoop the Kings tonight
February 19th, 2009 at 8:45 am
Smith!
Do a Gretzky Biopic!
i dont give a shit about hockey and you got me lookin the dude up.
February 19th, 2009 at 10:27 am
You know Kev, caring about others when playing a sport is not just relegated to Canadian athletes such as Mr. Gretzky.
http://sports.espn.go.com/highschool/rise/basketball/boys/news/story?id=3914375
February 19th, 2009 at 10:29 am
Whoa wait a second. Is that a little “The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai: Across The 8th Dimension” i hear playing in the background for the intro? Please tell me that’s what i’m hearing (or if i’m wrong, correct me, because i need to know why i recognize it lol).
February 19th, 2009 at 5:41 pm
Matt B its funny how you think of guys like Coffin and MLK as heroes because of their work to end racism, yet you see Ghandi, who was a racist against black people, in the same way.
February 20th, 2009 at 12:03 am
Thank god someone else recognized the music from “Buckaroo Banzai”, awesome flick.
February 20th, 2009 at 2:22 am
I love how you guys pretend to not know any Harry Potter characters’ names. You bring them up, pretend to think, name something like 2 letters different to the actual name, and move on. Hilarious how embarrassed you are to know that shit.
February 20th, 2009 at 4:21 am
….how can I listen if I can’t download? Anyone else having troubles?
February 20th, 2009 at 12:37 pm
yea it took several minutes for it to pop up as a download option, also unable to download this episode from itunes error 3259?
Anyone have an alt download link?
February 20th, 2009 at 1:12 pm
yes, also having problems… haven’t been able to dl for the past few hours.
February 20th, 2009 at 1:44 pm
Cannot download either.
February 20th, 2009 at 2:05 pm
Can’t download from Itunes or here, even past episodes
February 20th, 2009 at 3:33 pm
I cant download either. This happens every time a new episode comes out, takes a day or sometimes longer for it to work on itunes or on here. Grrrr
February 20th, 2009 at 9:24 pm
Download Error nooooooooooooooooooo!
February 20th, 2009 at 9:42 pm
I need my smodcast guys, What’s up? It no worky.
February 20th, 2009 at 10:55 pm
this broken thing seems to be an issue every time smod is posted to iTunes… or at least for me… it never works for iTunes right away.
February 21st, 2009 at 4:33 am
I just read the comment about Gretzky meeting an old chick on her 99th b-day, and I tell ya’, that pure human emotion is worth cutting one’s finger off. Only if I was a Canadian, tho.
February 21st, 2009 at 7:06 am
Damn, you guys need to host this somewhere that actually has some bandwidth!!!
February 21st, 2009 at 11:28 am
Is it just me, or is it that ever since Zach and Miri didn’t live up to expectation that Mr. Smith is trying to revamp himself as a different person? Each Smod get headier than the last. Bring back the entertaining stories. Save the life lessons and existential crisis for AA meetings.
February 21st, 2009 at 11:51 am
Screw Itunes! I just d/l the episodes from this very page and load them onto my mp3 player. It did take a while this time but I set it to d/l and went and did something else. No big deal. Great to have Mos back and always great to hear Kevin no matter who he’s paired up with.
February 21st, 2009 at 2:34 pm
The problem is Kim that the download off this site isnt working either. Where the mp3 is hosted is always blitzed by us smod-fans as soon as a new one comes up, so it maxes out the bandwidth.
February 21st, 2009 at 6:20 pm
Did anybody catch the sponsors motto? “We do what we must, because we can.”…it’s the same as Aperture Science Corps., from a videogame called Portal. If you know the game, you’ll understand how creepy that is. Funny, but a little creepy.
February 21st, 2009 at 8:19 pm
Kevin asked Scott if he let loose in Vienam, well I have a good story about being in another country.Last Summer I studied abroad in Uganda, we went to see the source of the Nile river, which was really cool.We thought it was strange that there were a LOT of Indian tourists there but we went about our business. My friend and I looked at each other and of course we decided to pee into the Nile. However, we felt less cool about it when we turned around walked back a little bit and saw the sign that explained that Gandhi’s ashes were scattered where we were.
February 22nd, 2009 at 12:31 am
It took me 4 hours to dowload the show. This is the only one that takes more then ten minutes to download.
February 22nd, 2009 at 1:06 am
downloaded perfectly fine for me….
February 22nd, 2009 at 6:40 am
I don’t know why people bother with the negative crap here. This should be a place we all converge to for celebratory SMod. Not take a dump on it. Kevin has said it once and I’m sure it’s all over this board but don’t download it you only want to complain. It’s FREE! What more do you want them to do? Keep up the good work guys. I can’t wait for the new one
February 23rd, 2009 at 12:54 am
thank you kevin and scott.
February 23rd, 2009 at 1:01 am
I gotta feeling there’s gonna b a new SMod tonight….
I think the only complaints that are valid are the ones bemoaning a distinct lack of Walt as a guest host. Walt should be the default guest host.. Malcom can come on too, but with Walt… and Walt gets to control Malcom’s mic.
February 23rd, 2009 at 4:45 pm
DOWNLOAD IS HORRENDOUS! what the heck is going on? =(
February 23rd, 2009 at 6:53 pm
Was great to hear Scott and Kevin back together again. I thought the emotion Kevin was giving for Wayne Gretzky was interesting. The entire time I was thinking if it was a connection between his father and himself that he was missing out. As Gretzky’s father was all about his son’s activity and ,I’m not sure about this as it is speculation, but maybe Kevin wishes that he had something like that with his father or at least had that to this day. It sucks with death to close members of families as it seems that you will see things that spark their memories and you just want to break down.
February 24th, 2009 at 3:44 pm
this is probably the best smodcast ever!!!
February 25th, 2009 at 3:52 pm
EPIC.
I’m not into Hockey at all, but have heard of Wayne (which is rare in the UK). Really enjoyed it.
February 26th, 2009 at 5:38 pm
Kevin Smith is funnier without weed, but I’m sure it’s not as much fun for him without the weed.
February 28th, 2009 at 6:34 pm
Can Scott Mosier please clear his damn throat?
May 18th, 2009 at 3:27 pm
Oh, thank the baby Jesus that Scott’s back. Kevin’s opening moan of pleasure says it all.
May 18th, 2009 at 5:23 pm
Over an hour on Gretzky, but you spent no time on Carlin when it was announced that he had died? Horseshit!
October 5th, 2009 at 12:25 am
Good soundtrack to this smodcast. Gotta love The Eels.
October 13th, 2009 at 10:22 am
shut the fuck up shekkkkky
January 13th, 2010 at 6:51 pm
Wow, I have a whole new appreciation for Gretzky, thank you for the enlightening SModcast.
