SModcast 73.5
SModcast is the meandering palaver of a pair of dudes whose voices are so dull, they don’t deserve to be on the radio (and, hence, aren’t). Kevin Smith and Scott Mosier are SModcast. The best thing about SModcast? It don’t cost nothing.

SModcast 73.5: SMod-Half -
In which new ground is temporarily broken at the expense of sound quality.
[CONTENT WARNING] SModcast features harsh language and even harsher notions of propriety. Listener discretion is advised.

This. Is. AWESOME! It’s a twofer, two for a nickel or in this case two for nothing. Hooray.
January 19th, 2009 at 1:23 am

Hi michelle!!!
January 19th, 2009 at 1:55 am
Good God, you spoil us…
January 19th, 2009 at 3:03 am
Kurt Russell is totally a movie star. The stories by Malcolm, at the end, prove his judgement is questionable, at best. Plissken Rules!!
January 19th, 2009 at 3:33 am
the best part was the escape from new york theme that was playing
January 19th, 2009 at 4:00 am
wooooooooooooooooooooo
January 19th, 2009 at 8:58 am
Thanks for the double SMod Kevin. Makes up for the fact that it took me 4 hours to DL #72…
January 19th, 2009 at 9:14 am
Good looking out on the bonus SMod, sirs. So awesome!
January 19th, 2009 at 9:43 am
Malcomn laughs just like Hugh Hefner . . . I guess that’s not surprising though.
Yah, Dreamer is a cool (tear-jerker) flick.
January 19th, 2009 at 9:54 am
Thanks for the extra Smod, guys, but have you considered the program “Skype” for long-distance Smodding?
I was recently invited to participate in a podcast out of Chicago (I’m on the west coast), and when I asked about the issue of distance, “Skype” was my one-word answer.
I don’t have first-hand experience, but as I understand it, it’s a fairly simple process that yields rather high-quality results (pending the quality of the microphones plugged into the computers).
January 19th, 2009 at 10:04 am
That dude is on crack! Kurt Russel is totally a movie star, the Carpenter movies alone make him a huge star.
January 19th, 2009 at 10:06 am
By the way, Kurt Russell has been acting since the mid-50’s. I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s been working since before Orlando Bloom’s PARENTS were born.
Nice try Malcom … now you’ll have to give up that other pinky!
January 19th, 2009 at 10:07 am
Lets give it up for Malcolm, doing the best impression of Gordo the righteously indignant canadian ever in his hatred for Kurt.
January 19th, 2009 at 11:41 am
nice!
January 19th, 2009 at 12:34 pm
Did I hear “video smodcast”???

My birthday wishes have been answered!
…or so I thought.
I see no video! :S
:’(
January 19th, 2009 at 1:05 pm
…as long as..goldy..shows..up..dude..it doesnt..matter
January 19th, 2009 at 1:13 pm
Thanks.
January 19th, 2009 at 1:39 pm
they sound so high
January 19th, 2009 at 1:44 pm
How f’d up is it that a stupid Kevin James flick filled with “fat guy falling down” scenes grabs over 30 mil on a weekend, and Z&M didn’t hit that big. Smith’s stuff is far more original, the masses have just become so dumbed down. Case in point, all the shitty tv based on half ass idiots dancing and yodeling and sitting in desks with 5th graders. Thanks for all the original stuff KS.
January 19th, 2009 at 2:57 pm
He said video SMod in the future, open your ears Arnie.
Kurt Russell is more of a movie star than Val Kilmer, who is absolutely not a movie star. Goldie Hawn is not a movie star. Orlando Bloom is not a movie star.
January 19th, 2009 at 6:51 pm
.5 thats so cool wont get any work done today thanks K and S you guys are awsome.
January 19th, 2009 at 7:39 pm
My god that is even dumber than the Canadian prime minister fiasco.
He clearly said Kurt wasn’t a movie star without thinking about it, and is now defending it to the bitter end, against all rhyme and reason.
Kevin, learn to recognise the signs… You can’t reason someone out of a position they didn’t reason themselves into. Let it go.
January 19th, 2009 at 8:22 pm
they sound like they’re both stoned lol but yeah nice two smods
January 19th, 2009 at 9:40 pm
“You are such a fucking obnoxious loser.” Awesome.
January 20th, 2009 at 12:20 am
Ok. I love that these two are both blasted, yet they’re miles away from eachother.
January 20th, 2009 at 12:47 am
The quality isn’t terrible, though it could use some tweaking. I really enjoyed this smod, Malcolm is always funny. You should record all your chats and post them up, assuming they’re not private.
January 20th, 2009 at 1:38 am
Kev,
first time im posting here, but hope this helps for the future podcasts, Skype has a nice quality audio and video so maybe I think that you could use that…
I hope im correct cuz if im championing skype and its worst Ill feel like an ass
lol.
anyways, thanks for the smodcasts! they rock!
January 20th, 2009 at 2:05 am
to all those knocking malcom: you guys are fools! that man is hilarious! and he does make a pretty good point about ‘backdraft’. show him some respect.
January 20th, 2009 at 3:17 am
ive heard podcast where the hosts were in different countries using skype and it sounded good
January 20th, 2009 at 7:54 am
Kevin love the podcast but you have to call out Malcolm on the next show. Kurt Russell has a career box office of $1,054,491,609 according to box office mojo, Val Kilmer’s at $936,136,745 and they don’t even bother listing Goldie Hawn. So if anyone of them is a movie star it’s definitely Kurt.
January 20th, 2009 at 9:05 am
Malcolm is hilarious, whether you agree with him or not. Still funny as hell.
Here is another point for you Malcolm:
Executive Decision Kurt shared title billing with a guy that dies in the first 10 minutes of the movie.
January 20th, 2009 at 9:14 am
Damn! This SModucopia officially exempts you guys from any future bitching about the length of time between SMods!
January 20th, 2009 at 1:52 pm
Malcom did make a good point about Backdraft, I was actually amazed. I find Malcom constantly annoying and obnoxious and I deleted this SMod from my HD as soon as I listened to it.
January 20th, 2009 at 3:02 pm
kurt russell not a movie star? malcolm should lose more than a pinky for that statement. still, bloody hilarious. malcolm should have his own tv show. i’d tune in. or, even his own podcast. that wood be awesome!
January 20th, 2009 at 7:36 pm
Fact: Kurt Russel’s movies have grossed more than:
Al Pacino
Gwyneth Paltrow
Kevin Bacon
Michael Douglas
Robert Downey Jr.
and many, many more. Dude’s a fuckin movie star.
January 20th, 2009 at 9:48 pm
That episode rocked.
Malcolm is awesome you should have him more on Smodcast
He’s a HEEEEEEATSEAKER
And he’s right
FUCK Kurt Russell, he’s a l0s3r. All his movies are lame
I would never go to war with Kurt Russell as my leader, he’s like Nicolas Cage, an aging nobody just drifting through bad movies. Yech
He did kind of ruin Death Proof but the great part was watching those chicks beat his Kurt Russell ass down into the pavemnent. KABOPOW!
January 20th, 2009 at 11:26 pm
yeah… Fuck Malcom… and Ned down the street!
I don’t know if Kurt Russel is a movie star, but I know he’s more of a movie star than Malcom is a director…
And fucking 10 guys in 6 days? Jesus H… I hope he’s using protection…
January 21st, 2009 at 5:20 am
Great Smod. I’m a huge Stargate fan, and though I wouldn’t call myself a fan of Kurt Russell, I liked 3000 Miles to Graceland, Executive Decision and Grindhouse as well.
That said, I agree with Malcom. He’s not a movie star. He doesn’t sell pics.
January 21st, 2009 at 2:17 pm
Never argue with an idiot. He’ll drag you down to his level then beat you with experience. Kurt has always been movie star to me. When Big Trouble In Little China came out, I grew a mullet to emulate him….In my defense I was 8, but it was still a sweet mullet.
January 21st, 2009 at 3:43 pm
you shouldnt have no idea why you wasted your time melcom is a horriable guess
January 21st, 2009 at 3:45 pm
Kurt Russell is a movie star
Goldie Hon isnt she blow her way to the top like her daughter
January 21st, 2009 at 6:08 pm
Friends don’t let friends use Skype!! I listen to a lot of podcasts and several of them use Skype regualarly. Crappy audio quality. Delays. Constant dropped calls. Please don’t do it. I would rather wait for the guys to come in “studio”.
January 22nd, 2009 at 12:14 am
Kurt Russell is a movie star ,this was the dumbest argument ever
The Thing FFS !!!!
January 22nd, 2009 at 9:17 am
Dumb argument, but I could see Malcolm’s point. And what is SMODCAST with Malcolm if it is not dumb arguments?
Will Smith, Cruise, Hanks, Clooney, Pitt etc. Actors who can open a film based on their marquee are movie stars! (AKA A Listers). I do like a lot of film Russell is in, but maketh a movie star does not.
On sound quality, don’t care as we have the conversational quality as max! Maybe gifting Malcolm his own podcast equipment and a double recording can be merged during music layering to increase quality? The only danger here is that the masses will demand Smodcast regardless of where Mosier goes on his Hols.
January 22nd, 2009 at 6:44 pm
Please make just one more J&B movie. I think strike back was your funniest movie.
January 23rd, 2009 at 1:25 am
Say Sirs,
Jus’ Wonderin’. What happened to the sponsor?
January 23rd, 2009 at 6:56 am
Regarding the audio quality of online chat-sessions, here’s what I’d do (and what a lot of people are doing):
Buy a cable that connects the line-out of your computer to that recording device you usually use. Use your regular Postcasting-Mic on Channel 1, record the computers output on Channel 2, and you’ve cleaned up half of the conversation.
Alternatively if you’re really serious about audio quality you could do a “regular” recording on both sides, encode it to AAC 128 (which is sufficient) and send both files to the guy who does post to sync em. http://www.cycling74.com/products/soundflower is free and can be setup to record just the mic of the guy in front of the computer (instead of recording the entire Skype or iChat session). It’s not that difficult to do.
To the guy who does the post: Whatever DAW or sound editor you use, be sure to use a plugin chain like this: DeEsser, Compressor (4:1 Ratio, Threshold depending on the levels, but I’d guess around -12 to -15 dBs, Attack 50-80ms, Release 300-400ms) and either a mastering limiter or normalizer to get the level up to around -3 db.
January 23rd, 2009 at 8:33 am
Do u people accually think that kevin and Scott read these things, giving them advise on what sound software to use and addressing replies to them, like what are u thinking. Plus the only reason that u should leave a reply is to praise the smod and never to bag it.
But kev and scott if u r listening, u should no that we are very greatfull of the hours of “work” (ie sitting around and talking) that u have put into making the smod, u have given us ours of entertainment that we are greatfull for. Keep up the good work so that we can listen for years to come.
January 23rd, 2009 at 11:45 am
The image I remember from Backdraft was fire with Kurt Russell walking out of a burning building holding a child and an axe. That was the fireman silhouette on all the posters.
January 23rd, 2009 at 11:30 pm
At times Malcolm sounds just like Seth Rogen!
Spooky.
January 24th, 2009 at 7:32 am
Malcolm better watch out or Kurt Russel might Slap-Track him out of existance.
January 24th, 2009 at 11:39 pm
Sloshedcast
January 25th, 2009 at 12:12 am
Beep bop boop this really got my circuits going!!! Thank you for the smodiliciousness!!!
January 25th, 2009 at 4:23 am
Malcolm is very funny but very wrong.
kurt russel is pro.
January 25th, 2009 at 5:08 pm
The Thing, Escape from New York, Big Trouble in Little China, Grindhouse. He’s a movie star. He may have made a bunch of crap, too. But he’s made some cool shit.
January 25th, 2009 at 11:39 pm
Fuck Malcolm Ingram.
January 26th, 2009 at 12:01 am
Is there gonna be a new smod tonight?
January 26th, 2009 at 2:12 am
If I saw a guy living alone in a really nice apartment with sparse/no furniture and a really super nice computer I’d think he was a hacker. (or cracker, whatever.)
January 26th, 2009 at 10:48 am
that seemed to work fairly well
January 26th, 2009 at 3:30 pm
Malcolm …. Escape from New York!!! Big Trouble in Little China!!! Grindhouse (Death Proof)!!!
You are so full of shit!
January 26th, 2009 at 5:24 pm
Wow that Malcolm guy is annoying! I had to turn it off halfway through.
January 26th, 2009 at 9:33 pm
Captain Ron is a great flick. Oh and I don’t think i like lofi smod
January 27th, 2009 at 12:59 am
Onaje
it said on the board that it’s gonna be up a little later than usual tonight and I have school tomorrow but it’s completely worth the wait lol.
January 27th, 2009 at 1:08 am
You all seem to forget the argument. A movie star is what sells a movie. Yes man is sold on Jim Carrey, not the premise. Valkyrie is sold on Tom Cruise. Death Proof (let alone Grindhouse as a whole) is not SOLD on the fact that Kurt Russell is in it. The Thing is not SOLD on Kurt Russell, it’s sold on the horror premise. There’s not a single movie Kurt Russell has been in that sells it because he’s in it, except Escape from LA, which was garbage. All his other movies are sold on an afterthought because they’re cult classics, not because of Kurt Russell. He’s an actor, but not a movie star (in Malcolm’s definition).
January 27th, 2009 at 5:07 am
I’m just getting caught up with my SModcasts after being on vacation.
Is it just me or does Malcolm’s voice sound a LOT like Jeff Garlin from Curb Your Enthusiasm (he plays Larry’s manager).
February 3rd, 2009 at 4:29 am
hey guys, great smodcast. and i totally recommend Skype for long distance podcasting. it’s totally free (unless you call real phone numbers. but calling each others computers is free.) it’s a simple and easy program to use. I hope we see more of these.
February 8th, 2010 at 6:26 pm
I totally agree with Malcolm
