About the people that object to the bus stop add’s, I knew very well what porno when I was like seven or eight, and that was before the internet. (I live in Boston now, but I grew up in europe so that might be different).

There were outcries against Hogan’s Heroes, if the film Autofocus (a Bob Crane biopic of sorts) taught us anything. And come to think of it, Crane was well into porn IRL. Werner Klemperer who played Klink was jewish to boot!

It’s ironic, yet in the end - predictable, to hear y’all talk about controversy surrounding the advertising. I peeped a commercial (a week or two ago) where the “make a porno” portion (would you like a portion) of the title was left out.
I thought, “hmm . . . did they change the title? Is it really that provocative?” Now I have a better idea, I think, about what’s going on. It’s just too bad that more people didn’t make more of a stink about this flick as that would’ve given y’all a nice *bump* at the box-office.
Isn’t there anyway that we can still get Disney’s name attached to this flick?
We should all go “Foreigner” and spread this rumor over the world wide web. Having some homeowner with ’sand in her vagina’ over the title/adds ISN’T GOOD ENOUGH.
If we are do our part, I bet we could get a nutcase or two to phone in a bomb-threat or two.
Disney is backing this film financially, that’s WHY they made the poster with stick-figures. To give things that “cartoony” feeling. Zack and Miri is all Disney’s doing.

I just discovered Smodcast a few months ago and I’m finally caught up but that means I have to wait for the new ones just like everybody else. lol Aw well there’s lots of old ones I’d love to listen to again. This reminds me of george carlin when he would talk about the pussification of America. Everybody down there is so sensitive its insane. I live in toronto and as you know we have the original poster up. i havent heard anyone complain about it. kinda makes me wonder what would happen if they ran the canadian poster in america. my guess is that lady’s head would explode and her chest would cave in. bytheway i saw the movie at the film fest and it is honestly his best yet. i’m taking my girlfriend to see it friday then force all my friends to watch it on saturday.hope it makes a lot of money

as george carlin would say, this is an example of the continued pussification of America. I love in toronot where we have the originally banned poster. i have not heard one complaint from anyone. PPL in the you are super sensitive to everything. Can you imagine what would happen if she saw the Canadian poster? her fucking head and chest would explode a la Bartelby in Dogma upon seeing the poster. Just watched Kev on Tonight Show with Leno, and have now reaffirmed my belief that Leno is the biggest waste of space on television. From the pretension that he was concerned about Kev’s smoking to the constant mispronunciation of Miri’s name, Leno talked completely out of his ass. So much so, that i was surprised not to see shit bubbles come out of his mouth. I for one am not sorry to see Leno leave the airwaves. Enjoy the ride to the back alley comedy clubs in your classic cars, Jay.

D-Day: Check out the promo ads running during prime time these days. The title card completely drops the phrase “Make a Porno.” Throughout last night’s episode of “The Shield,” which has an adult television rating ironically, the name of the film was shortened to just “Zack and Miri.”
Has it really come to this? Must everything be sponged clean such as not to offend the delicate sensibilities of the Christian hillbilly set? We can’t even say the word “porno” on network television? So now, instead of just the 7 words you can’t say on television - “shit, piss, fuck, cunt, cocksucker, motherfucker and tits” - we now have an eighth? Porno?!?

I have a 7 year old girl. I believe the childlike drawing on the poster would appeal to her and peak her interest. I wouldn’t dig explaining the word “porno”. I wouldn’t want to explain adults get naked or whatever. Kevin is a bit detached to not get that.
Explaining a horror movie poster as a scary movie for adults is much easier to explain. Plus, the Zack & Miri poster looks like something marketed to pre-schoolers! I think the guys are missing a gasket to not understand that perspective.

Not everyone has a problem with providing their children with information, just because words like “boobies”, “vagina” and “porno” make you squirm doesnt mean the rest of us break a sweat over them. Now heres a question, IF the mpaa hadn’t shot down the original poster and we didnt wind up with the stick figure madness we have now, would this movie have received any public objections? I searched through the comments and didn’t see anyone else ask/answer this so I apologize if it is redundant. What is the intro song to this smodcast? It had me cracking up and I googled the lyrics and didn’t find anything. It sounded like old school python as far as the style and lyrics go but not the voices, flight of the concords maybe?

I have been a big of Kevin’s movies and have been anxiously awaiting the new release but this smodcast really turned me off and at this point I am wavering as to whether I will even see it.
I am a fan of all the movies and have listened to all the smodcasts and enjoyed nearly everyone of them but this weeks was a total letdown. They spent an hour judging a woman for judging them which obviously doesn’t make any sense.
I can’t figure out why they just won’t let other people have their own opinions. I love their work and I agree with most of their points but I also see some of the ladies points as well. I was very turned off by all the bitching and because I didn’t get around to listening to the smod until the night before the movie it really dampened my resolve to see it.

I totally agree with Kevins view on the Saw V poster showing the killer wearing the previous killers face as a mask, hence Hannibal Lector. I work at a movie theatre and the poster advertises the “porno” reference, as well as, the box office mylar but we were told that the marque board on the building is only suppose to say, “Zack and Miri”. That is total bull shit. It is complete censorship. Kevin is a great filmaker. I really look forward to this film. I support you Kevin. Keep it Up!!

Wow…10.1M Opening weekend?
I seen the flick earlier tonight, and I was pleasantly satisfied. I’d been getting pretty psyched to see it, and I was afraid it wouldn’t live up to the hype, but it did. I think ZAMMAP is the best looking View Askew movie to date. I pretty much loved it all around. If I had to make one gripe, it would be that Jeff Anderson’s character didn’t get enough funny lines, though the line in the editing room with Rogen was one of the film’s best!) Delaney (Craig Robinson, is it?) nearly stole the show. He’s fucking awesome! Anyways, I think we can all agree that the main reason for the weak opening weekend was due to the date….HALLOWEEN?! Who the fuck schedules a comedy for release on Halloween?
I contemplated asking Kevin this question at the Calgary Q&A, but I honestly expected the pic to make at least twice that much on opening weekend, due to Rogen’s name alone…so I opted to ask him a gay question about sharks…lol.

I listen to smodcast religiously, however I have to admit, I was expecting a slightly above average comedy, however, I genuinely LOVED this f’n movie. Perfect casting, perfect soundtrack. Great job boys.

Hey dude, just saw Zack & Miri, WTF? Ya got the emotional scenes with them right, but somewhere in the middle what happened? Why must everything be explained away by talking? Why would the cast have helped them out the way they did towards the end? When did we see this level of camraderie and immediate friendliness? BTW, what was Miri’s job? What did she do? Who knows?! How come it feels like you got a great idea, then barely wrote the friggin thing out with half baked cliches? WTF where you trying to say? Why not just write for TV or radio!!! I love your movies dude, but you can do better. Show me, don’t tell me should be your new mantra. Wouldnt that be an amazing challenge? I know your D.P. did an excellent job in Clerks 2, why no movement here? Just saying it could’ve helped out.

It seems Wheelock college is ground zero for the “Fight against Porn” which puzzlingly now includes a Kevin Smith movie. Diane Levin, the moron who called for the removal of the bus stop ads for “Zack & Miri make a porno”, is a professor at Wheelock college and an anti-porn activist. A colleague of hers at Wheelock Gail Dines, was featured in an episode of Penn & Teller’s Bullshit about anti porn activists, and posted a retarded response on some politico site (http://www.counterpunch.org/dines06232008.html). The thing that amazes me about these women is that though they’re academics, they can’t cite any studies to backup their statements. Worse, Dines requires her female college students to attend her slide show presentations of rape porn as part of their class requirements. Great, at a time when these girls are just learning to assert they’re sexuality, these women convince them that all men want to rape them. Good job Wheelock, way to move into the 21st century!

Brilliant as usual sirs.
It is a sad world we live in when people are so pissed about porn in mainstream society but watching torture is all fun and games.
Everybody fucks, not everyone wakes up with a fucking pupet next to them telling them to gouge their eyes out to escape an even more gruesome fate- how fucking sick is that? I like horror movies but some things are too much and for Saw to be on its 5th (and hopefully final) installment and be so popular without complaint is beyond me.
From the way it is being treated it sounds like people would rather live next to someone like Ed Gein than Katie Morgan.
God forbid parents have to actually explain sex to their childeren- that makes them too uncomfortable.

I also saw ZACK and Miri last night and though it was not my favourite View Askew flick I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Whoa you spent 47 minutes whining about not being able to put up your outdoor advertisement in one city and then praised the censorship efforts of Damon’s mother on cartoons and people in Woodstock, NY not being able to open businesses on their own property.
Its possible that your view of cities being play lands for adults is not universally held by people who live there and have to have their kids wait around for 10 or 20 minutes for the bus while staring at your poster proclaiming that individuals sexuality should be amusing entertainment for the masses. A theme of the movie was that for main characters as much as they tried to tell themselves that it was just sex, it really was a deeper connection. The tacit message of the poster to a kid who wont be seeing the movie is that their sexuality is something to be given away and exploited if you ever run into money troubles.
Your whining is ironic since your daughter doesn’t have to be exposed to anything you dont want her to be. She is unlikely to be taking the bus anytime soon.
That said, I saw an enjoyed your movie. Mews,of course, was great. I think you did a really great job on the sex scene between Zack and Mari; critics who think you are only a snappy dialogue guy are very mistaken. Love when the music came up and the expression on Banks’ face. Also, the beginning of the movie really captured what living up North feels like at a subconscious level. The way the car moved in the parking lot, the line of wet foot prints in the coffee shop- note perfect. Even the location casting for their house seemed real.
My one criticism is that Banks looked too perfect after the they went to make the film. She had a Scarlet Johannson glow about her which didnt seem real any more. At the prom scene she seemed enough of a dork to be believable but later on she was too perfect.

That was a well thought out and poignant objection to the Smod. Equally astute observations in the movie up until the last point. Banks looks too perfect after because Zack is beginning to see her as less of a friend and more of a love interest. After all the people we swap jiz with are often idealized in our minds. As for city dwelling children, looking at a picture of two stick figures and the word porno is too much for you to explain, how do you deal with the homeless, prostitutes, drug adicts and general filth? Is the word porno too much for your child to see where “XXX live nudes” Can be seen on a street corner? I suggest you put your ducketts together and move to the country where advertising can’t have as much of an effect on your sensitive child(ren).

So the change in Banks presentation was intentional? Interesting choice seeing as “Knocked Up” was the the movie that launched a thousand “what is he doing with her articles”, giving ctitics an easy target. In the 3rd act there were shots where Miri really was arrestingly good looking- where you get to wondering why someone that beautiful wouldnt be deluged with with offers from men all the time- modeling, acting, at least as a receptionist.

If its on the bus stop it some how seems like its being endorsed by the city they live in. That a whole different thing- its ‘official’ verses some out of the way thing that just some adults like. That said- I am anxious for this commentary track smod so I can go back and see the movie again.

Okay. Now let’s get down to *brass tax* . . . I (like Mos) am a ‘hard sale’ when I go to the movies. And (also like Mos) I did not see The Dark Knight until a month or two into its’ theatrical release. I’ve gotta say that, while it’s nice having a new Batman flick, and Heath Ledger was AMAZING as The Joker . . . it could’ve been better.
It should have been better, A LOT better. Don’t get me wrong, it was GOOD . . . pretty DAMN good, actually . . . but . . . much like what happened in Spidey 3, the filmmakers tried to stuff too much storyline into a single movie. Shit, wasn’t that movie like three hours long? Return of the King got away with a similar runtime, because those characters are lesser pop-culture icons . . . but they (Peter Jackson and company) also had the advantage of having the groundwork laid out before them.
With The Dark Knight, they just pulled too many elements from the Batman mythos and tried cramming 20 pounds of shit into a 5 pound bag. It would have been better to leave Harvey Dent “whole” and save Two Face for the next film. Stick to the premise that they killed off Rachel Dawes . . . and then watch Dent in the next film . . . watch him gradually melt into madness as a backdrop to Batman fostering his own new love with Catwoman.
I’d have so rather preferred seeing Two Face created out of some sort of drunken escapade that a forlorn Harvey Dent went on; rather than seeing him portrayed as “a victim”. Besides which, less time focusing on Harvey would’ve allowed for more capering by the Joker (presuming the director was married to that 3 hour runtime).
P.S. When did Harvey Dent become Gotham’s “White Knight”? WTF was all that lionization of Dent as a hero? At the end of the day, Dent is just another slick asshole - as illustrated by his speedy transformation into one of Gotham’s worst criminals. Honestly, a full fifth of that film was a contrived stroke-job over “what a great guy” he was. It really made me want to puke my fucking guts out.
And speaking of puking. Though I am a big Christian Bale fan (Velvet Goldmine is a ‘must see’), his depiction of Batman, while ably played . . . is kind of strange.
That is, when he talks (as the Batman) he sounds like he’s about to vomit. He sounds like he just ran a marathon and now “it’s pukey time”. Really it’s more distracting than anything and it’s a shame they couldn’t see fit to tone that bit down. Deride all you like but you know you were thinking the same thing. In that first scene where he’s like “because I’m not wearing hockey shorts” . . . it even looks like he’s about to bend over a toilette and ‘let lose’. You know? The way his Batmobile works . . . and the cockpit positions him on his stomach or whatever.
And then at the end, we can barely understand his words as he burbs and coughs at the Joker. Bale’s throat must’ve been torn to shit, at the end of that shoot.
I like Maggie Gyllenhaal, BUT I was not diggin’ on her at all. Plus . . . the whole “different actress playing the same role” thing, detracted from her performance. I’d even go as far as to say that she became self-conscious of this fact. Which, once that happens, the whole performance is sullied.
Heath Ledger is BRILLIANT as The Joker. Truly. Brilliant.

The only comedy podcast that I subscribe to other than smodcast is Keith and the Girl. Definitely grab that one if you’re not already listening to it. It’s M-F daily for about an hour each day. It’s better than most shock-jock talk radio.
The only other podcasts I have are from NPR. Don’t miss This American Life from them. They have topical comedy in ‘Car Talk’ and ‘Wait Wait, Don’t tell Me’. Other good NPR news-based podcasts are Science Friday, Diane Rehm, Planet Money, Fresh Air, and Story of the Day.

There was an amazing podcast from a radio show that run in Australia for a couple of years called Get This. Alot of movie talk and other nonsense. Not sure how much of the humour translates outside of Australia. The second ones are probably better as they had a longer slot. Kevin Smith is co host for one of them too (Smithcast)

I can see how you would want to make a change but I thought “…Make a Porno” was a good compromise. I was weighing in at over 240 pounds (depression over a decade of grinding personal tragedy)and my doctor told me, “1000 calories per day, NO MORE!” So I have been on 1000 calories a day for nearly one month and have lost almost 30 pounds.
Ever had a ONE EGG OMELETTE? For me, eggs always meant 3 eggs, with mushrooms and peppers and smothered in melted cheese wrapped in flour tortillas. Or, when I am visiting Long Beach CA, a chili/cheese omelette at Hoff’s Hut.
MMMM. Here in Pittsburgh (as I’m sure you know) there is almost no place to get a really good breakfast.

Kevin - Sharks bite because that’s the way they check things out.
And sharks don’t see us as food. That is why most of the shark attacks end up with a very well defined bite mark, on a leg, or a torso. Mostly, they bite and let go, because we don’t taste that good.
I am not saying that sharks never eat humans, I’m sure they do, but it is not the norm.

First off…great f***ing show. I am 29 and grew up playing video games from contra to Mortal Kombat, watching any movie from G to XXX and running around without parent supervision since the 7th grade, seriously. My point is I am a normal human being and do not commit crimes that relate to this. The problem with our society is that these damn lawyers helping kids get out of stupid things because they seen it on TV/in a movie, played it in a video game, etc. If I was a judge and that was the defenses argument, I would have laughed and said “Really, your that stupid that you can’t tell the difference between reality and sci-fi?” I would hold the parents responsible for not teaching the damn kids better. I had a F***ed up childhood, but I knew better regardless.
This is why people like us are not going to be able to enjoy shit much longer. Everything from movies to games is going to be rated E and nothing higher, due to the fact that it could land in the hands of minors. The parents want the government to raise their kids for them, because they cant.

I love Kevin Smith, love his movies, but the brutal truth is that he will never have a big mainstream hit if he keeps casting his friends in speaking roles. Jeff Anderson…Schwalbach…even Mewes…the movie stops dead in its tracks every time one of them opens their mouths. They’re just not actors on a par with A- or even B-list Hollywood actors, and in a movie like Zack and Miri where they share screen time with top-notch talent like Seth Rogen, the difference in talent is just painful to watch.
I don’t think Smith is willing to ever cut his friends loose, and I admire him for that. But he really should go back to making small, micro-budget indie flicks. His attempts at mainstream Hollywood movies — and I really did like Zack and Miri — come off as too weirdly off-kilter for the average viewer. And for me as a Smith fan, they feel watered down and conventional. I’d frankly rather see Kevin make that movie about Killer Jesus and Mosier as old-timey boxing defender of Earth than another stab at a romantic comedy.

I’m bridging the long wait for “Zach and Miri” with listening to recent Smodcasts. Your new flick won’t be released in Germany until February next year.
Anyway, I’d like to drop a few lines considering some of your latest smods:
Wales IS a country, but belongs to Great Britain (like Scotland). It’s the bulky part in England’s west (that’s LEFT for you, Kev). Famous Welch people: Anthony Hopkins, Tom Jones, Shirley Bassey.
Northern Ireland is part of the British Empire (still, they call it “United Kingdom and Northern Ireland”), whereas 3/4 of the island are an independent republic (bomb-free since 1924).
I admire Scott’s London accent. Shame he couldn’t teach Keanu or Gwynneth in time. Your German accent, however, leaves much room for improvement. Study Peter Lorre.
There have been German Sheperds before Nazi Germany, I’m certain. It’s apparently a very intelligent and trainable watchdog. Note to dog-fiend Kev: the Eastern German (socialist GDR) breed was more efficient and healthier than the western (capitalistic, and optimised for looks rather than function) breed when compared after the reunification in 1990 (the Berlin wall and hundreds of miles of wired fence came down, ya know?). Over 40 years of totalitarian state (east) have continued the Nazi-style dog breeding (1945-1990), I reckon. After all, they hunted down people at the border, when trying to leave the GDR in secret.

Since Mr. Smith calls himself “morbidly obese” so often, why not call Peter Jackson and ask the chief hobbit for his slimming secret? Maybe he kept the one ring…

In your verbal essay on the genesis of Father Christmas, you failed to mention the red coat was actually a CocaCola invention. There is also St. Nikolaus’ day on December 6 (my namessake), who was a bishop in medieval Greek empire (now part of Turkey). He got famous and sainted for his love and support of the poor and children. I agree with the above statement to a degree. I did notice that Mewes seems to be much, much better at acting, when he is acting like himself, but I also think that is probably a confidence thing. I think Zack and Miri was his best film to date and I personally think a lot of that had to do with the actors he used. Smith is a brilliant writer and lets face it a marketing genius. I think finally seeing one of his films with some really good actors made the movie run so smoothly and his writing didnt need to carry the movie.
Okay so, Im just some fat shlub so who am I to judge any of the actors hes used in his films? Obviously they didnt do such a bad job, because I own every DVD he has put out. The only reason I am even making a comment is because I am such a fan and I know he reads this crap and worries about it. This was one of my favorite movies since Chasing Amy, and I think it blew away anything Judd Apatow has done. To me it was like Smith was saying, I opened this door and I can still do it better than you.
The fact that he includes his friends in his movies, despite some of their acting limits, just shows what stand up guy he is. I personally liked Mewes and Jeff Anderson in this movie. I just thought it was awesome every time Craig Robinson came on the screen or Banks and Rogan. They held this movie up to an even higher standard, because of their amazing ability for acting.
Indie films are fine, but I think it would be a huge mistake for Smith to go back to that. I think hes found his snitch pardon the pun. Good comedies that throw in a little bit to think about, dick and fart jokes, and shit this time we even got to see some tits! What more do you want? Maybe if you suck his cock hell make a little independent movie for your personal collection. Fuck me!

Zach and Miri was a great comedy which also had a story to tell, and an interesting and heart felt one at that. I was sad it did not do better, but No. 2 first weekend is not bad. Hopefully Kevin is feeling better. I think all his die hard fans love it, and that should make him a little happier. I hear people talking about the Dutch Rudder all the time. So do not be sad, and your friends were good in it. Mewes was hilarious, and I always love Anderson. Can’t wait for the next SmodCast and sorry to hear you cancelled the Miami show. Your SModcasts help me block out coworkers and enjoy my graphic arts work each day! I love it! I just wanted to comment on a podcast about cows. Occasionally I do security work at a farm/historic museum and one of the farmers becomes irate when people don’t know the difference between the bovine sects. Since your podcast weeks ago didn’t get around to uncovering the differences, here they are:
Cow = Female bovine
Heifer = Cow that is pregnant (or has given birth)
Bull = Male bovine used for mating (obviously not castrated)
Oxen = A bull which has been castrated and trained to do labor such as pulling a plow or cart. (must be castrated or it will not perform work)
Steer = A castrated bull who does not work, but is raised to solely as food.
Now you know. I hope this was able to clear up any bovine related confusion.
P. S. When is the next SModcast? I’ve been listening to repeats now, eagerly awaiting new SModtastic goodness for a while now.

You need to take into account the money it took to make the film (which I think budgeted around $25,000,000 (which in turn was/is around 4.3 mil in profit??). So it is good, but will probably make much more in dvd and bluray. Is it really worth going theatrical anymore?? Just a thought.

Thinking forward… with Z&M possible theatrical issue of opening on Halloween when the Saw franchise (55mil takings with a 10mil budget… who cares that its crap?) is stealing the R rating audience, in retaliation, Red State should be able to take a huge slice of the Saw audience if released against it.
I can see slogans like:
“It’s time I “Saw” something else… Red State!”
“For Halloween 2009, there will only be one Red State!”.. which in the political climate may already be the case.

I think Kev is a lil’ miffed right now. Technically speaking, Seth Rogen is an “‘A’-list” celebrity; and Z&M’s box-office grosses aren’t to par with that status. Pineapple Express probably had better numbers and that movie really isn’t anything special.
In fact, that film may be having an effect on Z&M’s B.O. numbers. If Knocked-Up or Superbad had seen its’ release six months prior, this would have been a whole different ballgame.
It’s been more than a decade since the Chasing Amy days; and Kevin was likely hoping for ‘another homerun’. Alas it wasn’t meant to be. WE still love you and your work though, Kev.

I would also GLADLY pay for a reliable smod…but they’ve already made it their case that they aren’t interested at all in doing something which they feel tied down too.
I think everyone should be happy to stick with the current recipe…they do it when they can and we get premium stories and discussion from them. Just think if they had to force feed us banter every week, it probably wouldn’t be as good.
Like everyone else I wish there would be one every week, but also believe there is some alternate universe where there IS a smod every week, and it sucks because they have to force it…

I would rather explain that a “porno is not a movie for kids” to my two than field questions about “SAW” or any of the other gory movies that they don’t hesitate to promo on prime time. Sex is natural and how they came into the world. It is something that we have been gradually explaining all along. I agree with Roberto. I think Smod has run its natural course. It is a terrific collection of podcasts, and well worth a re-listen - I think even better than the Ricky Gervais podcast which everyone seems to rave about - but new ones would spoil it.

What’s wrong with having one of the minions let us know that SMod is on hiatus until further notice? It’s a crazy let down every Monday morning to hope it will be there and it’s not. I don’t feel entitled to SMod. The guys have let us know it’s just a hobby, but when you tell us there will be a commentary “next week” and that was a month ago, it sucks. Here’s my thinking… back when Clerks 2 came out, there was supposed to be an “in theater commentary” that you could download to your iPod, and movie theater chains flipped and said “Fuck no!”

I don’t think anyone feels SMODCAST should be an obligation for Kevin and Scott. We all love the work they’ve done, and naturally crave more, and should SMOD #67 be the last SMOD I would simply thank them for giving us 67 plus hours of entertainment and move on. However, in the interest of their loyal fans and supporters, who every Monday click on the view askew site in search of their favorite film-making duo, it would be great to know if SMODCAST has gone the way of the dinosaur? Or if the boys are simply on hiatus? I don’t see this as too much of an imposition.

i just wish they would do that Zack and Miri commentary smod they were talking about. now it looks like it’s only playing in one theater near me and the possibility of going to the theater with my ipod and listening to the commentary in-theater is just about squashed.
i’m sure there’ll be more smod, but #67 was recorded a few weeks before the flick came out and i’m sure they’ve been busy since it came out.

After finishing a full length feature they have every right to take a couple weeks off. Hell, it’s their show, they can take off time whenever they want. I do however, think that there should be some notification that they are taking time off, Ken is the one that mixes smodcast and the one that uploads them to the site. It would be great if Ken could give us some notice of if a new smod is coming or not. Even just a few hours before the regularly scheduled submission time would be nice.

Look ZAMMAP may not have broken box office records but i saw it as number 1 on the US box office on imbd a week or so ago and i have to tell ya, i was so fucking proud!
when it was relesed i think it was a week later over here in the UK, i took a car load of friends to Blue Water Mall in Dartford and we all paid the Ģ9 to see ZAMMAP and we roared the whole way thru it! it was a sweet movie and i really enjoyed it.

The source I had was faulty, but the reason that the librarian was fired was not simply because she didn’t like the answers she received, it was more due to the fact that the librarian, as a state appointed employee, was a vocal supporter of Palin’s opponent, and thus was asked to resign at the beginning of Palin’s term just as the current secretary of state and all of Bush’s appointed officials will be asked to resign when Obama gets inaugurated.

ok guys, here’s the deal. I think I would be making an accurate assumption in that a vast majority of quickstop fans are also smodcast listeners. I also realize that if you need to promote movies, etc., that would be more important than working on projects that don’t generate money, in fact a smodcast is acctually costly for kevin. My issue is that the fans who will see these movie’s will hear about them on smodcast, and will want to see them even more. By ‘holding out’ on your smodcast viewer’s, you may be hurting your overall fan base, as I see it, our entertainment is not as important as money, to make money you need our entertainment. MAKE ANOTHER SMODCAST PLEASE! I am loosing faith and am getting irritated with quickstop’s lack of professionalism with what is really important…fans. I am a HUGE quickstop fan, and an even larger Kevin Smith fan, and I never would have been if it wasn’t for Kevin’s fan fair state of mind. I would like to see that same state of mind come out again. SModcast is a good thing and whenever you get the time to record some more it will be a good day. Thank you for taking the time out of your busy lives to make something which you have no obligation to make, and brings joy to so many people. Congrats on the movie, I really enjoyed it, and I hope that you are able to find sometime to yourselves during this busy promotion period. I look forward to hearing another SMod.
(I wrote this message cause I feel this board is getting far too negative. We have no right to feel let down by the absence of a new SMod, it is something to be enjoyed but I find it very annoying that people seem to feel they are owed one at this stage. Kev and Scott never had to start in the first place, and the fact that they did is good enough for me.)
For anyone that actually reads this far I would also like to point out that the Republic Of Ireland is not part of Great Britain or the UK, only Northern Ireland is.

SModcast has become much more than an entertaining podcast to pass the time for many people. If it’s becoming less of a fun chat between friends, and more like a job, don’t do it anymore. Just let us know if it’s the end. I can’t imagine yard work without SModcast anymore

I’m a late bloomer to Smodcast and since the first one I ever heard was #55 I went back and started from number 1 and I’m happy I did cause I love them and I got used to having one to listen readly available. I know it would be a little extra work but if they did two extra smods for one month one to air, one to can and continued on one a week, when they needed a month off they would have reserves. Its nice to have smod to listen to, but its not Kevins world. All I have to say is Fuck you Kevin for making me watch Conan. I also have the right to just walk away and never buy another viewaskew product again. Will I do that? I doubt it, but I have every right to say I will, without some brown nosed little baby calling me names. Listen to the last smod, he said they will post another next week. I wouldn’t be waiting this long if Kevin himself didn’t state that he was going to post it. There have been long waits before and that is fine, but he said it would be posted the next week.
Kevin has gone Hollywood and he has completly lost touch with reality! He brags about his money and his life and I was already getting irritated with the guy because of smod. This is just a slap in the face.

People keep referencing the fact that we shouldn’t complain because its free. But the fact that its free is a double edged sword. If they ever did start charging you couldn’t have these long protracted times of absence. And the whole movie promotion thing can’t be true anymore. Its been out for a month and is already had its run at many theaters.

You should never *expect* something that’s free. If it’s given to you, great; if you don’t then oh well.
Income from your View Askew purchases don’t pay for SModcast, by the way, and your supposed loyalty doesn’t exist if you’d passive aggressively threaten to stop buying his merchandise because he won’t give you something for free. Besides, you’d be hurting the Weinsteins more than Kevin and Scott.
I too woke up this morning to no new SModcast but, so far, the world hasn’t come crashing to my knees. If yours has, you need something more than a SModcast.

I was never trying to say that I was angry or hateful towards them for the absence. All I was referencing was the poster who said that Kevin had posted on his board that he had “several episodes recorded, and a new one would be up on Sunday.” Now if that poster was lying, then there’s no issue. I was simply saying that if he made the effort to update the fans on something they have been waiting for for 6 weeks, and when the previous episode suggested that a new one would be only a week away, then come on, you can’t blame me for being upset.
At this point, I would gladly pay for SModcast. Not only is it more entertaining than pretty much any movie or television show, but it would force these whiny bitches who continually kiss phantom ass to shut the fuck up.
And if one of the reasons for the delay is truly that they have no sponsor now, then I’m very confused. This guy is a major film director who is a well known celebrity. Are you telling me the best sponsor he can gets for his website is another smaller website? He’s done ads for Panasonic, and I’m sure Yoo-hoo and bartles & jaymes could pony up a couple bucks. Or here’s an idea, how about Harvey & Bob repay Kev for the millions they have made off his back when he shoots a flick for 5 times cheaper than everyone else.
And Shane, don’t ever compare Potter to SModcast. Smod is on a whole nother level.

Complaining and calling Kevin a hollywood sellout asshole and threatening not to buy any more view askew products isn’t going to make the new episode come out any sooner. If anything, it might have the oppostite effect of making kev and scott feel obligated to do it and decide to stop because it’s not fun anymore.

Everyone has a point…well, some of you at least.
True, SModcast is free-we cannot expect them to keep coming on virtue of the fact we are used to them. It is simply a nice way of Smith reaching out to his fans.
True, Kevin hasn’t posted one recently, despite a “verbal contract” that he would.
I have the good fortune of being fairly new to SModcast, so I’m not as hard up as a lot of you, but I can understand your frustrations. Doesn’t mean they are particularly valid, just understandable.
SModcast is a time commitment that Kevin and Mos do to maintain and entertain their fanbase. Because of its nature, it developed the unfortunate aspect of becoming an expectation, one shared by, apparently, thousands of people.
It is disappointing, but frankly there are several valid reasons for them not to update and for all of you to stop complaining.
Like, for example, they wanted a break.
I do not have the mindset that people I don’t know can owe me something when I have done nothing for them. The money you spent at his movies does not entitle you to some extra service, unless you’re saying the movies were bad. In which case, why are you here?

Anybody here like Lost? Or Heroes? Or Simpsons, Family Guy, South Park, the Office, Spaced, or any other number of TV shows? Those shows go on hiatus during (usually) the summer and come back with a new season. Now, true, those shows are more labor-intensive than SMods (though it only takes about two days to make an ep of South Park) but are you up in arms when the season’s over? Yes, it would be nice to hear an update, but if you go on over to the official VA message boards, you’ll see a post from Kevin saying the new SMods are on the way. He’s also been posting a lot less lately, and as every SModfan knows, he spends most of his time on the internet. If he doesn’t have the time to peruse and post on the board he usually has, he might not be able to sit down and record a smod.
And, personally, I’d rather wait for a good SMod than sit through a mediocre, rushed SMod. I don’t think I’m the only one who’s hoping the next SMod will address the outrageous comments of some “fans” on here.

The difference between a summer hiatus for network shows and this is that the powers that be inform the audience that they’re going to have to wait awhile for a new episode.

Scott is one of the funniest dudes I’ve ever heard. Maybe it’s his dry personality, but it just seems like he drops some funny, funny knowledge. Scott talked about how he couldn’t do one without Kevin, but I’d love to hear one with him and Mewes or him and Bryan Johnson. Maybe we could here Scott’s point of view on the time Bryan freaked out at the Secret Stash… Just an idea for something to put out there in the podcast world.

i just think its a bit lame that someone who is on the internet for a majority of there time(Kevin smith) doesn’t have the common courtesy to just say “hey dudes this is why smodcast hasn’t been around” it would take a whole 5 minutes out of his day and make everyone who checks back hourly/daily for new smods a lot happier and save them the disappointment of coming back to this site all the time and finding that once again another day has passed and no new smod has been released.

It sucks, but I just went back and watched all the movies again with the commentary, which are hands down some of the best commentary tracks of any dvds. Plus there are 3 Evenings with, cartoon dvd, and 67 smods… There’s plenty of stuff to listen, watch, etc… I check every Sunday night, and if there’s no 68… I put my playlist on random, and go to sleep.
Hopefully we’ll get one soon, if not, oh well…

yes smodcast is free but so are welfare checks and food stamps and Im sure if we just stop giving them out a lot of people would be mad because they count on them so anyone using that as a defense really doesnt hold water Kev doesnt do SMOD just for us he does so he can expand his fan base plain and simple He’s able to advertise 4 free one hour a week he’s a genius when it comes to marketing

They should watch J&SBSB - we’re just the internet trolls.. fans and haters alike. Those of us clamoring loudly just really love it. If we’re assholish about it, that doesn’t represent the majority of us.
SMODCAST is what got me listening to podcasts in the first place. They’ve done a really great thing.. and yeah.. Kev’s fat, and Z&M kinda didn’t do well.. and we’re clamoring, plus its Christmas, and they’re feeling down.. BUT
Please.. if there’s any way Kev reads this (doubtful.. but hey..) Don’t give it up. make it once a month. Record 2 on a Saturday every 2 months.. thats 6 sessions a year (46 weeks, or 359 days you DON’T have to do one).
Don’t kill it cuz we, the minority have clamored.. please, do it for us.. not because we deserve it, but because its really a service to us in these difficult times.

After listening to the last episode of the Snydecast, I think that Finacial troubles with with hosting and such are more the reason for no Smod, not there not being enough time. Maybe some combo of the two.

After 67 episodes when will people learn that they will post a new Smod when they have the time, yeah it sucks but come on this isn’t the first time we’ve all been threw this and Im sure it wont be the last. But all the talk of how there will be no more smods is silly, and even if it is over I highly doubt Kevin would just blow his fans off without a word to us. I mean he is one of the few “Hollywooders” ( and I use that term loosely) who honestly cares and truly appreciates his fans. So until I see a post titled “Its over folks” I’m not to worried about that happening. So just chill and wait it out, besides not knowing when their will be a new smodcast is half of the fun. If they posted one every week on time what would most of you have to bitch or complain about??

so I am wishing and hoping for a new smod. I enjoy my hour of reprieve the world, work, school, and family. mmmmm. I just can’t wait for the new one and hope it is this Sunday. I have been studying for my psych nursing final and my brain is fried. ready for the semester to come to an end. but no smod is killing me. sure i listen to old ones, but not the same. I guess i am just being a whimpy kitty baby whiner, but I don’t care at all. I did however get “Sold Out, three evening” but it’s a x-mas gift so i have to wait til then to watch it. Shit. Here’s the deal: Zack and Miri underwhelmed at the box office. Kevin was looking for Apatow numbers ($100 million+), not the $30 million it brought in. And he got bummed. He’s holed up in his bedcave, knee-deep in pizza boxes and Count Chocula, eating and smoking himself to death. Maybe 2009 will bring him out of his shame spiral, but who knows?

We’re going to get a bunch of SMods as a Christmas present. They’ve just been holding out, waiting to drop them all at once.
Plus Kevin has been going through some things. Food poisoning immediately followed by a bout with influenza and prior to that, it was a dental appointment. Things will get back to normal bros and hoes, just be patient.
